“spacious, clean, close to the parks, but not a deluxe resort”
Reviewed 12 March 2010

Stayed there with my wife and 2 small kids last week of Jan. 2010. Having read all the previous reviews of Mystic Dunes, I was apprehensive about staying there. I'm glad to say that the place was not nearly as bad as the reviewers made it out to be, in fact, it was quite satisfactory.

Our 2 bedroom unit was spacious, with a washer and dryer (a must with 2 small kids under 5), a screened in balcony with a view of the fountains and pool, and a large whirlpool tub in the master suite. Kitchen came equipped with all the usual stuff you need to cook. Unit was decently clean, with the exception that my wife discovered a large live cockroach in the kitchen a few days before we left, which skeezed her out (where there is one, there are many). The resort provided a high chair and pack 'n play portable crib upon request, and within an hour replaced the first pack 'n play, which was broken, with a working one.

The resort staff was courteous, professional, and prompt in helping us. It took less than 5 minutes to check in and I never waited more than 5 minutes at the front desk to speak to someone. Our friends and their kids also stayed at Mystic Dunes, and they were able to accommodate us by getting us 2 units side by side, which made our stay more enjoyable. Our friends used the heated pool and found it to be fine. The grounds were well maintained. We did not golf or use the resort amenities much, except for ordering room service from the resort pizza hut, which was prompt and the food was fine.

The resort is very close to the disney parks, about a 10 minute drive, and maybe 15-20 minutes from Sea World. While not means a luxury resort, it was spacious, clean, and gave us plenty of room for the kids. The second bedroom had 2 queen sized beds, so there's plenty of space.

A couple of cons: second bathroom bathtub's drain was very slow. So was our shower stall's drain, again slow. The wine openers were cheap and broke when we tried to use them to uncork a bottle of wine, the plus was the resort did not charge us for this. Another con is that there is no mid-weekly cleaning included in the price of the stay; instead, you have to pay for it if you want it. Most timeshares we have stayed at include at least one cleaning during the weak. Also, and this is very minor, but they provided single ply toilet paper, which was not the best to use. Also, our mattress was lumpy and had an indentation in the middle, so it was not the most comfortable mattress to sleep on.

There was no pressure to attend a time share presentation (maybe because we were staying there through a time share swap).

Overall, we had the feeling that Mystic Dunes had started out as an idea on a grand scale, but then something went wrong along the way, they were forced to cut corners, which resulted in a decent, adequate resort, but nothing that will knock your socks off if you are used to staying in the higher end places.

This "resort" is not all that is cracked up to be. When we first pulled up, we were blown away by all the landscaping and the beautiful water fountains at the entrance. We checked in with out a problem before the "check in time of 4pm" but when we got to our 'villa" we were very disappointed.

LOCATION: If it weren't for the location, we would have switched resorts. The resort is extremely close to all Disney parks and Universal!! you will need to rent a car b/c they do not provide transportation to or from any of the parks.

BALCONY or PATIO: or lack there of... there was a sliding door off of the living area and when we pulled back the curtains we realized it was blocked off, and to add insult to injury, the sliding door was broken and wouldn't lock.

LIVING ROOM: small, OLD TV , coffee table and couch.

KITCHEN : small but for a short stay wasn't too bad. enough counter space with 4 stools for eating at the counter, no kitchen table. The coffee they give you makes 4-6 cups...and comes in a packet/filter. I like strong coffee so I only made 4 cups.... but If you enjoy GOOD coffee, bring filters and your own coffee because you might be disappointed. they don't provide coffee filters.

BATHROOM: nightmare.. The shower was horrible!! it was dirty and the drain was clogged. the bottom of the shower filled with water within 5 minutes of taking a shower. We called the front desk and complained, they told us they would send someone over to fix it within 2 to 4 hours...I'm sorry, who in their right mind wants to wait
BEDROOM: The bedroom was alright, bed was comfortable enough, nice jacuzzi tub in the corner... we it used a lot due to the condition of the shower!! There is a safe in the closet which was great and lots of space to put away clothes.

There was a washer and dryer in our unit that came in handy. The pool was a lot of fun!! resort has gated security at entrance and for the most part it is a safe area.

Tthe grounds were beautiful and it should have been a great experience. unfortunately, the accommodations were very average and the staff was less than accommodating.
Our room had no patio or balcony. The furnishings were very dated, the carpets were dirty and the bed was uncomfortable. it took 7 minutes to walk to the closest pool, which was always crowded. The rooms were not the least bit sound-proof, which was quite annoying at 6 am when the alarm clock in the room next door continued to sound for 1 hr and 40 minutes. It was only after three phone calls to the desk that a maintanence person finally arrived to turn it off.
Regardless of what they tell you, decline the tour that is offered. It is definitely a long and high-pressured 2-plus hours and this is not a place you would want to purchase as a timeshare property. The "closer" became very irritated and rude with my husband when he pointed out the reasons we did not want to buy..
With so many nice places in the Orlando area why stay here? We won't ever stay here again.

We have stayed at close to 20 different time shares in Florida over the last ten years, and must say this is the most dissapointing. To begin with the weather has been horrible, but that is not the resorts fault. But can you believe on a resort of this size there is not one hot tub on the whole property ! The pools are supposed to be heated, but were not swimmable for my kids even on the few days that made it into the 70's. I need to be connected to the internet for my work, this resort charges $50 for the week. We had looked at the activities prior to coming here, and my kids were excited to do the "flashlight scavenger hunt" We show up to be told, "we don't have any flashlights, and you need them to do this, so here is the sheet, fill out the answers from the resort newsletter" The units are decent, but the noise from the people above us was the worst we have noticed in a time share. You could hear footsteps like they were in your own unit, chairs being dragged on the kitchen floor etc. We were made to wait almost three hours upon arrival for a room, when we get to our room we see by the unit inspection sheet that it had been vacant for four days ! The rug in the kids room was wet for the whole time we stayed, not sure where that was coming from, and the boiler for the hot water unit for the building was so loud we actually went outside the first day to see what machinery was driving down the street. The kitchen is also very sparsely stocked, missing many of the things that all the other kitchens have, plastic glasses, a pitcher, kitchen knives, a cookie sheet etc etc. The unit itself was clean, and in fairly good repair other than what we mentioned, we don't recommend using the jets in the tub though, when we turned ours on after a thorough cleaning, a bunch of mould came out of the jets. A long rambling review, but if you have a choice of resorts in the Orlando area, don not choose this one ! Almost forgot to mention, there is NO gym facility of any kind on this resort, which again, we have never encountered before.

I have stayed here several time. This is a wonderful property with fabulous customer service and attention to detail. The staff is very friendly. I really enjoy the golf course -- great challenging holes, nice design, and fun to play. It also has a nice range and the golf pro shop that is well stocked. It is only five minutes from Disney. Staying and playing at Mystic Dunes is truly a good value -- great for meetings, conventions, or the family. Just in case you don't stay there, go play the golf course. You will not be disappointed.

I was in the Orlando for the PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center. Instead of staying at one of the crowded, overpriced hotels on International Drive, I decided to make the short trip to Mystic Dunes every day. It was a great decision.

I felt like I was on vacation, despite working one of my busiest and most important weeks of the year. The villas at Mystic Dunes are incredibly comfortable and being located in an uncrowded, beautiful resort does wonders for the psyche.

When I wanted to go out, I was a short drive away from many good restaurants. When I wanted to stay in, I had a full kitchen, leather sofa, big screen television ... and a relaxing atmosphere.

I found it to be the best way to ENJOY a business trip. Can't wait to try it for a vacation.
