This hotel is at the far south end of Clearwater Beach. Although redecorated, it shows its age through the small and slow elevators and the noisy in-room air conditioners. Our balcony door was very heavy and difficult to open and close because of salt build up in the track. I would say it's a stretch to call it a resort, although it does have its own private stretch of beach (for which you pay an extra $25 per day for the use of a cabana chair cushion and an umbrella). Standard rooms below the 4th floor face buildings across the street, not water. The advertised wireless internet is next to useless - the signal was very weak and intermittent in our room. On the plus side, our room was very clean and we found the food and service in the restaurant to be very good. The Gondolier restaurant across the street is also excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for 5th floor or above if not sea view.

We've been to better, nicer and cleaner places...but then we remind ourselves that we're on the beach (sand everywhere) and our room looks over the inlet/gulf and it's not the Ritz and that puts it all back into perspective. Sure it's a little rough around the edges and it may not be as good as some of the other Best Westerns in the chain, but I'll tell you what it does do right:

1. It's quiet
2. It has its own (though small) private beach
3. It is down on a less busy end of Clearwater Beach
4. Despite being near the end, it's within walking distance of anyplace you want to go in the Clearwater Beach area (if you have enough fitness to walk 15-20 mins max).

There's a pizza place across the street that serves pretty good food. There's also a Walgreen's drug store across the street that's open 24 hours.

Another downside is the "resort fee". All hotels here in Clearwater Beach charge you for it. It's one of those phantom fees that is already covered in their overhead (like airlines charging you for bags or tire stores charging you a disposal fee) but they can charge you for it because everyone else down here does. Our room (a King on the Gulf) was $189 with a $13 resort. We ended up getting the room for $165, not a huge bargain, but better than no discount at all. Is it worth it? Well, it's apples and oranges. Not in the grand scheme of what you get from other Best Westerns, but when you consider the location...it's worth it.

It's a pretty convenient location, it's quiet and it's a place to sleep and shower. What more do you really want from a hotel at a beach location? If you are looking for more, you probably aren't really there for the beach.

We traveled to the Clearwater are for Spring Break 2011. We stayed most of the week with my parents, about 20 miles from Clearwater Beach, but decided we wanted to be right on the beach at least one day. We booked the Sea Wake on-line using Expedia's "mystery hotel". We paid about $130 for the night (I had called the hotel and they quoated $189). There was an additional "resort fee", which included the use of the private beach, pool and parking. I think the fee was $17. This seemed a little silly, but parking is expensive at Clearwater Beach. There was an additional fee for use of very comfy beach chairs and umbrellas. This seemed to be the norm at all the hotels along the beach. Jose, the cabana boy, was nice, but if you are really thirsty, I suggest heading to the the bar yourself (short walk)
The resturaunt service was friendly, but less than efficient.
The room itself was very clean, roomy and the bed was very comforable. The common areas of the hotel need some attention to detail. There was trash that was allowed to build up around thepool area, and debris from some sort of construction.
Despite my negative comments, I would stay here again, especially at the rate of $130. The location was great. You were within walking distance to all the resuraunts and the busy public beach, but the private beach was perfect for relaxing.

Room Tip: upon booking, ask for an upgraded room (ocean vie)

We were suppost to be in a room with 2 gueens, and we ended up with one king and a pull out couch. The king bed was verry confortable and thr pull out couch unconfortable most unconfortable thing to sleep on ever! The cabanas are verry pricey, but very confortable. You are better off buying one there and giving it away at the end of the week! Subway is right across the street which is very convenient with a family with alog of kids. 3 of the 5 people got glass in their foot because of a previously broken sliddng door, but not to bad. The resturant/snack bar is very pricy as well, 5 of us had a smoothie and it came to 40$. While you are at the hotel sone things to do are visit caladesi island, go to adventure island, and go to ellinton to a great outlit mall. The pool was cleaned once while we were there for one week. You have to pay $13 dollars a night for maintaining the beach, pool, and parkinglot in good shape, which would usually be in the cost of the room. The beach is on a cannal which is not a bad thing, it keeps out the large waves, and scary sea creatures somewhat! There are also more boat tours and other things like the pirate ship. The elevator is as slow as slow can possibly be, and it does sound like it will break any second. The beach is small but verry very nice! One man got stung by a sting ray during our visit, bit is very uncommon. You can see dolphins every day, which is very cool!

We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Best Western Sea Wake, especially after our first impression when we walked in the lobby was a little disappointing. Upon entering the lobby, the temperature was hot and humid and we were worried that this was going to be a representation of the entire stay. However, when we got to the room and saw the cleanliness and view, it was great! The room was recently remodeled and everything was clean and updated. The staff at this hotel was wonderful, especially the two young men who work down at the bar and restaurant. I cannot say enough about their courteous treatment of the guests. That really makes a differece in your whole attitude about the stay, and their hospitality was outstanding. This hotel is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing get-away. They have a very nice pool as welll as a beach front area. I would stay here again!

Room Tip: The gulf view room was beautiful.
