Our stay started badly. This is an expensive hotel and, like the rest of us, you expect excellence at this price level. Our 'premium' room overlooked the top level of a multi-storey car park. Great if you like watching kids skateboarding and smoking, but we did'nt book this hotel for that. W>e would have accepted this as the location of the hotel is the key here, allowing days of beach/restaurant and activities. Then we tried to have dinner in the hotel's restaurant, SHOR. They were too busy to serve us within an hour so we decided to order room service. When we tried to order we were told that the menu in our room was old and they would send up a new one. We waited an hour before hypoglycemia kicked in. I complained and the Manager, Miss Hamm, organised things quickly and offered the meal on the house. A wise decision. Our other concerns were dealt with eaqually well by Miss Hamm, who changed our room to a seaview suite for the remainder of our stay. This turned a disappointing start into a wonderful stay. It is sad these days you have to complain before you are given value for money, and that the weekend's weddings and passing custom seem to push the staff's useful capacity, but when they want to they can satisfy. All in all a super break spent here. Miss Hamm, Christina at the front desk, Gary and Dante at Information and the waitresses all made it. Thank you all.

Room Tip: Do not accept the car park view. You are not here for that. Even at 'premium' rates, you can...

We stayed for a long weekend and had a great room. It included a kitchenette and a view of the gulf and bay. The pool was nice a so were the drinks! The beach was white and beautiful. Sand was like powder. Sitting under an umbrella was rejuvenating. Ate in the restaraunt twice. Pricey but great. Scallops were amazing but lobster Mac was just ok. Special menu was excellent!!

My husband, 8 month old son and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency during the weekend of May 11th. We paid roughly $400/night with taxes, so expectations were reasonably high considering it's not St. Bart's or another location catering to the super high end/super wealthy. The Sand Pearl was another place we considered, but at a higher price and smaller room (we had the baby so it's something to consider) we went with the Hyatt Regency (where we had a suite).

The Good:
-Spotlessly clean, everything looked pretty new
-Glass (plastic cup) of champagne and warm, friendly greeting at check-in
-They took our "high floor room" request into consideration and gave us the best view they had available
-Service (in general) was extremely friendly and accommodating
-For the most part I could take as many towels as I needed and wanted by the pool (policy seems to vary on signing them all out and counting them - some attendants made us do that, some didn't)
-Poolside refreshment service was friendly, they attended to us frequently yet they stayed inconspicuous

The "OK"
-Room view: Most rooms either face the beach/parking lot or beach/pool area (& rooms across the U shaped building - we actually saw a woman changing one evening across the way)...so although you can "see" the beach - you only get an "all beach" view room if you get one of the penthouses or one of the front facing views (which also faces a road).
-This brings me to: Hotel is across a road from the beach (however, as a New Yorker the road was quaint, brick paved, one lane of slow moving vehicles & bicycles etc so I didn't think it was a big deal - all in all you still feel you are on the beach)
-Location: I ventured out for iced coffee, Duane Reade, and similar types of conveniences while there and it was a considerable walk to where they are located (which is where the Hilton and Sand Pearl are).
-Pool: It's on the 8th floor roof deck and is surrounded on 3 sides by the U-shaped hotel (I really didn't love this, but it ended up being a good experience with a pretty view and nice breezes and plenty of sun)
-Restaurant food: it was fine (and the overwhelmingly friendly service more than made up for average food - breakfast was the highlight - lunch/dinners are ok but not anything great)

The Not Good:
-A/C issue: (this is what keeps my review from being a 4) our a/c unit stopped working on our first night yielding to a stifling night and upset baby when we stirred up some commotion trying to have someone fix it. It ended up being a building-wide issue that was solved in the wee hours, but those were some warm hours, and our next day was exhausting.
-Beach cabana set-up: REALLY INCONVENIENT, but this may not be the fault of the hotel necessarily? The hotel supplies cabanas on the public beach that you can rent (at a hut across the street from the hotel), but then you need to trek on the beach to pick one out, put your stuff down, wait for the attendant to pick up your ticket....it wasn't cheap, and there was absolutely no service involved here. I had my baby and all the towels I could carry, and I thought we might both burn to death while I took care of this. There are no bathrooms nearby, so people probably used the ocean. They do have outdoor showers on the street at which to rinse when you are done. I would stick with the pool every day after doing this....

On the whole, if you want a more "old worldy" elegance maybe try the Sand Pearl, but if you want a nice, new, clean suite, try the Hyatt Regency as prices are comparable...I would stay here again. Maybe if we didn't have the kid I'd give the Sand Pearl a whirl, but for family convenience nothing was better than the Hyatt (minus the a/c problem which was probably a fluke and I wouldn't try that beach again). Lastly if you've made it this far, congratulations...maybe there's an award for the longest review ever of a Hyatt Regency!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room as close to the beach as possible (not close to the interior of the U)

We stayed at the Hyatt in Clearwater Beach from May 19-22 2013. This is a very nice hotel in a great location. The pool is very nice with plenty of lounge chairs and a attentive staff to wait on you. The rooms are clean and spacious, with a full size refrigerator and a small cooking area. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The only negative is it's not on the beach but across the street and $16 a day to park.

First time in Clearwater Beach and at this hotel. Definitely a great location with easy access to the beach. Rooms at the hotel are well kept and our 2 Bedroom Deluxe Suite had many great views along with a wonderful room layout. Truly a great place with all the comforts of home and more. Make sure to stop down at Swim the Pool Bar and Grill. Tara P. our server made us feel right at home. The coffee bar with Starbucks was a great start to any day. Jeffrey making all the coffee drinks was very friendly and helpful too. Lots within walking distance including an indoor surfing area next door. We hope to return in the future to this great hotel.

Room Tip: Either side of the hotel has good views, but get the bay side if you want to see the water and beach...

After spending the previous night at the Hilton we ended up at the Hyatt Regency through a Priceline Express Deal. What a treat after our slightly less than satisfactory night down the road. Check in was at 4pm and we were greeted with glasses of Kenwood sparkling wine. Our room was really nice, with a full kitchen and large bathroom. Everything was very clean. We spent the evening lounging by the pool and watching the beautiful sunset. We did venture out for dinner down the road, and took a stroll down the pier. This is a great location on the beautiful white sand beach within walking distance of many restaurants and attractions. We spent a little time at the hot tub the following morning, and the pool again. Not much else to say other than I wish I could have stayed there both of the nights I was in Clearwater Beach, and hope to return again.

My wife and I were looking more for a high end resort style hotel. The hotel lobby is not very nice for a Hyatt,When you pull up to the front of the hotel across the street has very small motels it is not what you would expect to be around a Hyatt. You need to cross the street to get to the beach,no private hyatt beach its all public and it costs you 25 dollars a day to rent an umbrella. The pool is on the 8th floor,The jacuzzi is on the 16th floor. The staff is excellent and the food is great.Sorry Hyatt its just not what we expected. The hotel sand pearl down the street was more resort style and classy.
