“Toxic Mold growing, Cigarette burns, Foul Oder, Nasty Slum Hotel”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

I stayed at the Howard Johnson on 3/7/12. The room we were assigned to, looked ok at first. Considering the rates right now are extremely high. The average rate is usually $50 per night, but right now its $124 plus tax. For this rate my fiance and i expect the room to be at least clean in which it was not. After spending time relaxing after a long day, we started to notice how unclean the room was. We seen that green mold was forming in the corner of the mirrors. The blankets were dirty and or stained, riddled with burn holes as well as the chairs. The air quality of the room was terrible and smelled foul as if it had been cleaned but no one has slept in it for months. There was not a way to receive fresh air due to not being able to open a window. The phone did not work in the room and was taped together. When i finally went down to ask for a new room. The clerk "Nicole" made it seem as if the mold wasn't a problem. Telling me that its not mold. I told her that the blankets and phone didn't work in which she had an attitude the entire time. Acting as if i was making this up. I even told she is more than welcome to see it for herself. She finally decided to give us a new room. The new room was just as bad, but thank god it didn't have mold. The blankets and chairs were stained and had burn holes. The mini fridge was filthy. The bath tub was dirty. The mirror closet door was cracked. The sink faucet didn't have a metal screen so the water was uncontrollable splashing every where. The walls and doors were stained with god knows what. The A/C unit was broken and didn't work. We turned it on and it was so loud that it was not even possible to sleep with it on. My fiance and i decided to take pictures just in case the hotel wanted to dispute these claims.

Earlier in the day when we first arrived, we decided to use the computer. We thought we had found a cheaper rate for the hotel. When we asked the front desk attendant Nicole she kept telling us "there was no way"! repeatedly and acted in a complete unprofessional manner to say the least. Later in the day when we went to use the computer, she told us "oh you cant use the computer after 10pm". We booked this hotel on the basis that it had a computer lab to use. She had seen us for most of the time we were here using the computer and never bothered to inform us that it closed at 10pm. When i asked her why she didn't tell us, she states "because you didn't ask". Overall we are very dissatisfied with our experience. It has been a huge hassle and uncomfortable for use since we first checked in. The only reason we didn't leave was because we do not have a vehicle to leave. God forbid you or your animal gets sick from the mold they will blame it on you just like Shane [--] has been doing to our family. Do not stay here. Buyer beware. They are refusing to refund my family and i our money it has been going on for over a month now. I was going to post photos but for some reason it cannot upload them.

Room Tip: Get as far away from this hotel as you can. Thats my tip.

We spent four nights here due to a spur of a moment trip. We had two rooms (one for us and one for our sons). Both were on the south side with one upstairs and one downstairs. The downstair rooms are very close (3 to 4 feet) from the driveway and car noise can be an issue if other visitors are inconsiderate. Rooms were clean, well furnished (nice big desk with several chairs around it). The bathrooms are dated (ours had pink tlle with black trim which I think went out of style 25+ years ago) but as mentioned clean. The pool area was nice as well with lots off lounge chairs. The provided breakfast is one of the most bare bones minimal ones I've experienced anywhere. All in all it was not bad for the price.

This was a last minute trip and we were very pleased to find the property was very clean, The staff was pleasent and the room was well cared for. the total stay was more than we could have expected for a motel of this price range. We could say nothing negative about this motel and will use it in the future. it was a pleasent surprise to find value motel this clean, something that is to rare these days. We take mini trips about twice a month, in the central florida area and in the last few years, this is the only property, that i have found, worth my time to write a review on.

We stayed at this property September 2011. We stayed in a room with 2 double beds. The room was large, clean and comfortable. It had a microwave and mini fridge which was very convenient especially travelling with an 8 month old. The hotel was very centrally located right of US 19. We were only about 15 minutes away from Clearwater beach. The breakfast was very basic. It consisted of cold cereal, oatmeal, toast, bagels, muffins, donuts, coffee and juice. The hotel served its purpose; I don't have any complaints but nothing to rave about.

The only big issue I had with this place was that my "Non smoking" room smelled strongly of smoke. They offered to change rooms but it was the only king on the first floor so I stayed there. They sprayed some smoke smell remover...didn't completely remove it but it became bearable.

Otherwise, a nice value for this room. Semi -pdated rooms and outside, nice paint job. The furniture itself was a bit old...few chips here and there, and the bathroom needed a major upgrade (it was old school tile, pepto bismol pink). But the bed was comfy, it had a fridge/microwave/sink, and a nice little extended dining/workspace area with a few chairs.

Ac was freezing, which is good minus the fact that its right next to the bed and cannot be adjusted, i had to defuse it with a blanket put across two chairs.

We stayed here for three nights. The location is perfect - it is less than 30 minutes away from attractions such as Pier 60 (Clearwater beach), St. Peterburg Pier, Caladesi Islands, Fred Howard State Park, etc. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the pool was fantastic (clean water). TV worked well, staff was nice, and the price was great. Would recommend this hotel!!
