“GREAT PLACE TO STAY”
Reviewed 30 May 2011

There are so many good things to say about this hotel.
The location is great. Across the street from the beach and with in walking distance from everything. The trolley stopped with in a half a block from the hotel and will take you all over in Clearwater Beach. Do make sure that if you are going to the Aquarium - you take Jolly Trolley - it brings you to the door - PSTA drops you off on the causeway.
Highly recommend the gulf view rooms - we sat outside every night outside our room and watched the amazing natural show put on with the sun setting.
Bud in the office was so helpful with everything and really made an impression that our business was important to him which is so refreshing.

We will be going back to Pelican Pointe next year.

We knew that Pelican Pointe was going to be basic and were more than happy with that but I was terribly disappointed overall.

Negatives:
- Room was filthy - the floor was so dirty my husband took my child down to reception within a few hours of being there as his feet were filthy. A cleaner was sent up but unfortunately she had no cleaning products in her bucket of water so, in essence, moved the dirt around a bit with her mop.
- At check-in the young female receptionist was surly and unwilling to impart information
- Kitchette was poorly equipped and the limited storage cupboards had no shelves so everything had to be piled on top of each other. Also, there were 2 spoons, 3 bowls and no plug for the sink. When I asked *twice* for a plug I was asked why (!) so I don't know how anyone can do their washing up.
- No kettle. When we asked for one we were told "no, and there's no hob to heat it on either". Apparently electric kettles are, as yet, unheard of by this establishment
- The fridge had a limp so every time you opened the door it fell forward. Also, it was not cold enough so when we first opened it, all the melted ice tipped out onto the (dirty) floor
- The bath was chipped and stained
- There was a crack in the back window shelf and the curtain wasn't long enough so the early morning sun came pouring through
- Lift, stairs and walkways were all in need of a thorough cleaning
- Incredibly noisy a/c

Positives
+ Great location: across the road from the beach and a short walk to lovely restaurants and the marina
+ A nice relaxed vibe and the tables and chairs outside the room on the walkway is a pleasant way to chat to other visitors and enjoy the view of the ocean

In summary, this could be a really super 2-3* accommodation but it is crying out for some modernisation and first rate cleaning services.

Room Tip: Get an Gulf view room and inspect the room first

Thank you for taking the time to report your concerns about your stay. We take great pride in our hotel and are truly committed to giving you the highest quality room and service for a value price. It is true that we cannot, for saftey reasons, provide guests with cooktops, hot plates or electric kettles. We do however put a microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and refrigerator in every one of our units. We also stock our kitchenettes with table service for 4. I continuously strive to improve our performance and all of your comments will be shared with the staff and fully investigated. Please accept my apology for failing to meet your expectations.

Stayed at Pelican Pointe from April 30- May 3rd 2011. 1st time there. Would stay there again, but I think that we got the most "value priced" rooms and I would upgrade next time to a courtyard or pool view. The value rooms are kind off off at the end of the hallways which are pretty dingy looking. The room itself was fine, pretty spacious with a king bed and sofa sleeper. Clean. Has kitchenette area w/ sink, micro, fridge. We got this hotel on expedia or bookit for a good price. Next time I will upgrade to the next tier of rooms w/ views. No chairs outside room cuz it's like a back hallway area. The better rooms have little balconies w/ chairs to enjoy. The location was fabulous. Walking distance to the beach, shopping, restaurants. Pool looked clean and nice, but was at the beach the majority of the time.

We visited 04/13/2011/-4/17/2011 and had an awesome stay. I was very surprised, the room was very clean, spacious and a great location. Within walking distance of everything. The sunset view was great from our balcony. The staff (and visitors) very friendly, welcoming and very helpful...can't say enough about them. Can't wait to come back next year!

Just loved the room! We stayed in the Morocco's 416 suite. perfectly laid out and decorated, new plasma TV, good kitchen, bath, couch, bed very comfy. All was fine until the second, third and fourth nights (of the 7 we stayed) we were awakened by teens running around the common areas after midnight, yelling and partying out on the promenade below us. The next night, the people two rooms down from us were talking VERY loudly out on their balcony area with some other friends until after 1 a.m. You can hear all of it. The next morning I asked the manager what to do if it continued to happen. He indicated the number to call - I guess it would be for a contracted security service, or maybe for one of the managers who might be on call....The next night my husband leaned out and told the offenders that we were trying to sleep. They quieted down for about 10 min, then cranked it up again. Other than the lack of sleep, it was a nice place with nice views over the gulf of the amazing sunset!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are all nice

This hotel was right across the street from the beach, which was convenient.. I have been to Clearwater Beach many times, the beach directly across from the beach was a little crowded (spring break) and messy (garbage cans overflowing) but if you walk down towards the pier, it is much cleaner and the beaches were a little nicer. We arrived on a Sunday (spring breakers are very noisy) it was bumper to bumper cars and lots of loud motorcycles going down the street - so if you want quiet, this hotel may not be for you. Subsequent days were quieter, but it something to consider. The room itself was OK. The bathroom set up is just a toilet and shower in a very TINY room, while undressing I hit my hand on the ceiling light, the sink was in the main room area. Which is not my ideal, but if this doesn't bother you, you should be fine. We had 2 teenagers and 8 year old, so 5 in a room. The pull out is in the kitchen, so when pulled out it takes up the entire kitchen area, you need to move the table and 2 chairs across the room. Beds are double size, and cramped, they were comfortable, but narrow. The beds are not in a seperate room, so take this into consideration if you have kids, if someone needs to change, it is open. I don't think I would stay here again with kids, it was just way to crowded. If it is only 2 or 3 people I think it would be fine. There was dishsoap, dish towels, dishes provided. Toaster, microwave, tiny tiny sink (5x8") with no plug, but you can wash things in a pinch. Fride was apartment sized, freezer door was broke off, but it held our drinks. Breakfast included was coffee, juice and packaged muffins.

Positive side it was nice to walk to shops, restaraunts, beach, pier. Room was clean but not without some issues. (rusty and broken toilet paper holder) Kitchen was nice to make a bagel, but that was about it. Pool was small but clean, plenty of chairs around it. Vending machines, ice machine, and washer and dryer available .

My husband had a couple squatters ask him for money while we sat at the pool, not the hotels problem, but something the hotel might want to keep an eye on. There are homeless people in the area.

Room Tip: Great place if you are headed to the beach

Thank you for reviewing Pelican Pointe Hotel. We have 3 room types to choose from. The Bayside rooms do have a larger bathroom with the vanity inside and lighting above the mirror instead of the ceiling. They also have Queen beds. Unfortunately these suites will only sleep 4. March and April are very active due to spring break and "cruising" is common on the beach walk. We do our absolute best to control the noise on the property but the beach walk is supervised by the city. It was our pleasure serving you and your family.
