Our stay at the Holiday Inn was the result of a wedding we were attending. We decided to make a weekend of the event. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for the wedding but there was a back up plan. The hotel itself is ok. There is a nice pool and deck area with a nice outdoor bar and area for eating. Our suite was big enough but upon check in, it had a bad odor. Several times house keeping had to come deodorize. We ended up buying air fresheners. The source of the odor was wet carpeting by the windows as a result of the storms. Other wedding guests experienced the same issues and move rooms to no avail. We ultimately left earlier than expected. Front desk originally would not refund us because we pre-paid but after realizing the issues we encountered accommodated our request for refund.

Stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of August 2011. Check-in was pleasant but was shocked to find that the Gulf view room that I paid for through Hotel.com was not what I expected.
The view from my balcony faced the side of the adjoining building, my view was 90% concrete and 10% the sea! Not very happy I went to reception to resolve the matter. I spoke to the assistant manager, he told us that the room we initially had was gulf view even though it was practically facing the concrete wall and insisted that if I wanted the 'Gulf View' that they called 'Gulf Front View' I would have to pay for the upgrade. What a joke as I paid a lot of money for what I expected to be a room facing the Gulf.....that's why I chose ...GULF VIEW! After much deliberation he finally managed to move us to a better room with 90% Gulf view!!
The room is very clean and the beds comfortable, slightly outdated compared to some of the other newer hotels in the area but then again you are not paying the slightly higher price!
Pool area is cleaned every morning which is nice and the view looking towards the Gulf is lovely.
We had free breakfast and kids eat free...if they are under 12! Ridiculous I know so if you are booking, you would be wise to change any kids over 12 to adults in order to get the free breakfast, in our experience the price for the stay whether it was 4 adults or 2 Adults and 2 kids was the same. The breakfast was limited to $20 for 2 adults and overall the quality was average but the buffet was rubbish when they had it at weekends. You will be wise to avoid ordering the coffee as it was very weak on the 3 occassions that we had it and finally had the sense to have juice instead. The free coffee in the hotel room was much better. We did dine there on the last evening and that was surprisingly good.
Overall we did have a good time but could have done without the stress at the beginning! So next time I will be looking at the other newer hotels and maybe pay that bit more.

We had an excellent girls weekend in Clearwater Beach. The hotel was great. The best part about it was the POOL! The beach view was good too, but there is ZERO beach access so we were surprised about that.

The only hiccup we had was that when we arrived we had one free night and one paid night. They expected us to stay in one room on one floor the first night, then pack up and switch rooms & floors the second night. They acted like it was non negotiable. Finally after speaking with a manager, they made everything right and our trip was perfect.

The restaurant at the hotel was super good. We also drove down to Crabby Bills (EXCELLENT crab!) for dinner one night. The walk along the boardwalk and beach area was wonderful. It was gorgeous weather to boot.

Room Tip: 4th floor & higher, also request an ocean view :)

We were guest at this hotel from September 2nd to September 5th, 2011. As a former hotel maid and guest service representative at various beach resorts, I know first hand how very difficult it is to keep everyone happy all of the time, especially during busy holiday weekends. That being said, the accommodations were absolutely impeccable and every staff person we encountered did a terrific job making us feel welcome, including guest service members and management, housekeeping staff and management, the maintenance engineers, parking staff, and security personnel. The housekeeping staff did a phenomenal job, going above and beyond to keep the room warm and welcoming, including turning down the covers and tucking the remote into the covers right where we would find it! The grounds were beautifully maintained at all times. The pool deck was kept very clean and free of debris. Fresh warm towels were always available at the pool, if anyone happened to forget their own. The wait staff at both the pool bar and the indoor/outdoor restaurant were very accommodating and always cheerful as well. In general, it was a perfect place to relax if you wanted to get away from the crowds at the beach, which was only a short walk from the hotel. Everything we needed or wanted to do was within a short walking distance from the hotel. We just parked the car and walked virtually everywhere we wanted to go. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better stay and we will most definitely book with this hotel for our next trip down.

What a wonderful review! We certainly thank you for taking the time to respond to your trip here all the way from Iowa! It is wonderful to hear that we met and/or exceeded your expectations. Our staff, including housekeeping, will be pleased to hear your compliments to them, as will Jimmy's Fish House management.

As you could probably tell, there is so much to do in the Clearwater area, and one way to stay informed is by following our Facebook page: Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Clearwater Beach. In fact, you are welcome to post photos of your trip in one of our albums if you'd like!
