“Holiday Inn a Great Place”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Such friendly people, great pool, good location.

From the first day we got there switching from another hotel we felt very welcomed. Everyone at the front desk was terrific. The game room though a bit older offered a nice break during some of the rainy days. The pool area was awesome and the water very warm. Kids were able to swim even on the cooler windy days.

We stayed at the hyatt last year and obviously that was terrific but we had just as good a stay at the Holiday Inn for those looking for a little less pricey option. We traveled with another family and shared a two bedroom suite. Worked out extremely well.

Thank you to all the staff who helped make a great stay!

Thank you for writing a review on your stay! We're so glad you and the other couple enjoyed your stay here - and happy our suite was spacious and comfortable for you.

We'll surely relay your compliments to our staff. They try very hard to give every customer a wonderful experience.

As for the rain....oops! Sorry, we're sorry that dampened your beach fun, but you're right - kids don't care - they enjoy the pool anyway (as long as no lightning is evident..and then we close the pool!)

Please stay in touch with us on Facebook and we'll do our best to give you reasons to come back. Enjoy your spring - and hopefully it has warmed up by now!

When my wife and I travel with our small kids, we always look for suites. We tried doing the single room thing...no fun! You have to basically go to sleep when they do, or stay quiet as to not wake them. Or, you can let them stay up all night which means that you are catering to them even longer (or letting them veg-out on the tv if that is your thing). Also, "adult time" is out of the question ;-). With this said, we wanted a nice hotel, but did not require a 5 star fancy-shmancy place (less stuff for the kids to break).

With this said, there are only two properties on the beach that offer suites; Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites and the Hyatt. After seeing that the Hyatt was charging over $500 a night for a one bedroom suite, the Holiday Inn was the clear choice. If I am going to pay over $2300 for a hotel, it won't be in Clearwater and it won't be a Hyatt. (Bora Bora anyone?) Even though this property is not a "beach walkout" property, the beach is like a 2 minute walk on the same side of the street. It is so close, you can basically say that this hotel is on the beach.

Room: We booked a one bedroom leisure suite, which was bigger than expected. This offered plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing. The rooms were also clean, so no complaints there.

Food: With two kids in tow, the "kids eat free" option was awesome! Also, we booked a free breakfast option, so breakfast was completely free for me and my family everyday. We ate at Jimmy's Fish House for every meal every day, we were never disappointed with the food. There was often live music there, which was a nice touch. The service however is not the best. While friendly, they are seldom seen. I never got a refill for my water. Also, it takes FOREVER to see a waiter and put in an order. I had to chase down my waiter to get change to leave her a tip.

Amenities: I did not see a spa, so no comments about that. There is no kids club, which was perfectly fine. They do have an arcade, even though I never saw anyone in there. This might be due to the fact that the games were kinda pricey. I come from the times were arcade games were a quarter each. If I recall properly, one of the games was a dollar a person. If they lowered the game prices or made them free, the arcade would be an AWESOME perk. There are also waverunner rentals on the property. We did not do them this time, but will in the future.

This hotel is perfectly sufficient. All of my needs were met, and that's all I cared about. My family had a great time, and will be staying here upon return this summer!

So glad you enjoyed the resort and the amenities - and the Kids Eat Free and free breakfast program. Please know that we're always looking for ways to improve, so your comments on service will be shared with Jimmy's. We're pleased you enjoyed the pool and beach and the spaciousness of a suite.

We're delighted to hear you'll return next year - there's always something new and fun going on in Clearwater. Please stay in touch with us on our Facebook page!

This hotel is a great choice for families for the following reasons:

1. Kids 12 and under eat free. We paid for two adult buffet breakfasts and our 12 yr old ate free. The buffet includes eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, french toast, pancakes, pasteries, fruit and cereal. The buffet is $9.25 per adult. If adults order lunch and dinner, kids eat off the kids menu for free, too. We all ate off the regular menu. The boiled shrimp and salads are terrific.

2. Hotel has suites which are expensive during peak season but do offer families the space they need. The one bedroom suites are two rooms joined by a door. One room has the living area with a table, sleeper couch, tv, microwave, small refrigerator and a bathroom. The other room has the beds, tv, balcony and bathroom. We had the gulf front view in Tower 1, which was quiet and the view was fantastic.

3. Restaurant is nice with a patio over looking the Gulf and live music nightly.

4. The walk to the beach is 3 blocks from the hotel on the same side of the hotel....no crossing the street. Beach has umbrellas and chairs to rent for $25 a day.

5. Pool is well heated and open until 11:00 pm. Kids are out there at night and have a great time. Pool area wasn't that crowded and there are plenty of chairs around the pool or in an area to overlook the Gulf for dolphin viewing, bird watching or seeing all the boats go by. I brought binoculars and spotted a couple of dolphins.

6. There is a game room but we didn't see any kids playing in it.

7. Ice cream and candy are sold at the small store in the hotel. There is an ice cream shop called Cone Heads down the street toward the beach on the opposite side of the street, as well.

7. Restaurants and shops are in walking distance as well as the Pier. The entertainment is fun ti watch with kids, especially the magic show. The walk back from the Pier to the hotel are family friendly with wide sidewalks and a sense of safety, since lots of tourists are out.

We didn't rent a car. We paid a flat rate of $51 for a cab from the airport. The ride took a long time (over an hour) on a Sunday due to traffic in the late afternoon. We didn't need a car once we were here to enjoy the activities on Clearwater, Beach.

A very good place for families, indeed! We had a very nice time.

Thank you! We really like the way you outlined all our services and amenities on your review - thanks for making it easy for others to understand all we have here.

So glad you were able to enjoy the beach and pool and that the suite offered you enough space to relax and spread out. You're right - the Kids Eat Free program is a definite help on a family's budget, and Jimmy's has a really great menu for kids.

As you found out, it is easy to get around on Clearwater Beach without a car - we're an easy walk or trolley ride to most everything!

Thanks again - please stay in touch on our Facebook page and we hope you and your family can return again soon for more memories.

The hotel is nice but not fancy. I had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. The rooms are modern and clean. Every staff member I talked to was kind and friendly. It is just a short walk to the beach but it is a waterfront property. I loved viewing the gorgeous sunsets of Clearwater Beach from here. Nice pool with a tiki bar.
The restaurant-Jimmy's Fish House and Iguana Bar is excellent for meal, snacks, and drinks. Many good resaurants are close by.
It was a nice getaway for me to relax but it is also perfect for families.

Room Tip: Enjoy the sunset at Jimmy's Fish House and Iguana Bar!

I will update this review once I hear back from upper management and corporate; however here is a brief overview of our stay.

After driving 9 hours, I called to ensure our double bed room was ready, was told I requested a king bed. I explained I was traveling with my children and absolutely did NOT request a king bed. The manager on duty said the system has what I requested and we'll have to pay an additional charge for the double bed room. Frustrated and angry, we agreed to pay the up charge because the room was fully paid for in advance for two nights. That was at 8pm.

A few hours later, 2am to be exact with my husband and children sleeping, I heard 3 very large bangs on our door. My husband said through the door "May I help you?" The person on the otherside of the door screamed obscene language and racial epithets at us. Concerned for our family we called security for help. The response from the hotel was "Sorry for the drunk guy at your door, but he's now at his room."

That was the extent of their concern, apologies and he's in his room. Not we have called the police and he will be removed from the hotel immeadiately! Simply, he's in his room now so eveything "should" be okay.

We immeadiately requested a refund and said we WILL NOT, CAN NOT patronage a facility that allows inebriated adults to harrass their guests. I'm 38 years old and I've never been through anything like this...It's been a harrowing experience. 2:33am (6 hours after check-in) with kids in tow, no refund and having never set foot on the beach, we left Clearwater Florida, NEVER to return again.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights, having cashed in our Priority Club points. The check in was quick and efficient. We were upgraded to a two room suite, which was spacious and had a great view over the pool and Gulf. Its a fairly typical Holiday Inn... its got everything you need - not luxurious, but all round good value.
The location is great with many bars and restaurants around. Strongly suggest you try Jimmy's Fish House and Iguana Bar, which is in the hotel. Great food and great location on the Gulf, with fantastic views of the sunset.
Its about a 10 min walk to the nearby Pier 60, around which there a numerous restaurants and bars.
Worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for sea-facing. The views are great.

When planning our trip to Clearwater Beach could not resist our 5th visit to this great hotel. Thoroughly enjoy the gulf front suites and their amenities. Virtually every day were able to watch the dolphins frolicking in the channel and the pelicans feeding. Also, were treated to a Manatee passing by one morning.

Derek, the Assistant Customer Service Manager, was particularly helpful during our check-in assisting us with special requests that we have learned make the stay as enjoyable as possible.

During Spring Break have to expect and accept that there are going to be young children there and that they will be happy and vocal particularly around the pool.

Room Tip: Higher suites with a gulf view

Thank you! We appreciate hearing from you following your stay - and to know it was your 5th visit! We love our guests who feel like they "come home" when they visit!

So glad you were treated to the sea life - manatee, dolphin and pelicans - (you didn't mention George the resident egret - perhaps he was on vacation himself!)

You're correct, the higher suites have stunning views. Thanks for sharing that tip!

All the best and hoping you can come back soon. Please stay in touch with us on Facebook.
