“Great location!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

After having read some of the former reviews we didn't expect too much.
But we must say that this hotel wasn't have as bad as described by some.
We would absolutely stay there again!
The location is just great and justifies the price!
And we could even see the sea from our room on the third floor.

We stayed at the hotel 4/8/14 to 4/15/14. We had a great time. While the building is old and dated, we had a very clean room. We stayed on the 4th floor over looking the gulf and had great views of the beach and sunsets from our balcony. The hotel is conventiently loctaed to reach all the activities at the beach. Would stay here again !!

Room Tip: Get a rooom on the 4th floor overlooking the gulf

We initally wanted to stay here because this is one of the only hotels that allows 18 and older to check in. This is not the hotel for the partier they have strict rules and no refunds if broken me and my boyfriend are not the partying type but we had a room 112 right near the office and could here them scoled people when they came back with people who werent checked into the room. For me and my boyfriend the room was great King bed Nice TV's Small kitchenette with couch and table very nice we personally thought everything was great the BED though was the MOST squeekey and would wake me up if i moved to much (good thing i use earplugs when i sleep *because im a lite sleeper) the hotel staff was great, the cleaning ladies did a wonderful job. so close to the beach, nice pool, is a great place to stay.

Room Tip: "Ask about the Bed "

We stayed a week for our winter vacation and got a very full understanding of the place. First there are several good things to say about this hotel experience:
* The staff was always friendly, professional, and polite
* The maid kept the room extremely clean. The hotel is right on the beach and it's impossible not to track in sand. Each day the room when we returned the place looked just like the first day.
* The pool area was also kept in pristine shape, with everything in its proper place each morning
* The shower water pressure was good and strong (a rarity in some place)
* it had a good flat screen TV, which our daughter appreciated.
* You can literally see the beach from the window or from standing at the railing outside. Truth in advertising

Now the not so great. It all can be summed up to say this place has new branding but Magnuson needs to put more money into upgrading the real hotel. In our room:
* the bathroom seat was so old it had wear marks where the knobs under the top part had rubbed away the paint on the top of the toilet seat. Have you ever seen that anywhere? We haven't.
* the beds were hard. Imagine lying on a credenza. We did not look forward to going back to the room at night because we knew the beds would be uncomfortable. We didn't have one decent night's sleep the whole time we were there.
* You know how motels have two window curtains, one that's a blackout, the other a gauzy one that lets in the light but provides some privacy? The front window had no privacy screen, just the blackout curtain. . So anyone looking by can just look in on you. You make a mental note not to turn your head while walking by, but sheesh. Sure, you can close the blackout, but then you're in a dark shoebox. That privacy curtain is such a basic thing.
* The fold down table in the room didn't have the bar that actually let the table be opened up and stay open. I wondered if any of the rooms still had it.
* The vanity sink faucet was so old and stiff our preteen daughter couldn't actually pull out the faucet to turn the water on.
* The fan in the bathroom was off-balance so that it rattled against the grill. We would up using the heatlamp instead of that light and fan.
* The closet had one mirrored sliding door. Not doors, where one slides over the other though the track was there. The second door was missing.

That's just the room. Around the hotel everywhere your eye set (except for the positive things listed above) you'd see something that made you think "That should be fixed." Rusted out holes in the metal stairwells, white towels tucked into holes in the exterior stucco, outdoor carpet that stayed wet in one spot for no apparent reason.

And the worst thing? The way the place is landscaped, you're forced to enter and exit the hotel through a blind alley into the parking lot. I mean, you have direct line of sight to and from the beach, and on your way back from the beach it looks like you can just walk up onto the pool patio and go to your room. What a wonderful welcoming user experience it appears to be! But for some reason, there's a white plastic fence right where a gate should be, and so you're forced to walk around through a concrete passage that's meant for cars, over the blacktop, around to the back of the hotel, and then finally down a thin concrete passage back into the main area. Dumb. It'd be so easy to fix and I think it'd go a huge way to making the place feel more inviting.

Again, this place requires money and upgrades. The folks running the hotel were as nice and professional as can be expected. It's a shame the facilities were so dilapidated.

We spend two nights here after taking a cruise. We had a family suite on the 3rd floor--room 305.

We were looking for a hotel with a pool within walking distance to the beach and for a great price. That is exactly what we found with NO regrets.

We arrived very early on day on for check-in and front desk Dave quickly pointed us to a great place to eat "Crabby's" along with some coupons and promised us a room in about an hour. We knew we were very early so was happy to see they were trying so hard to get us in early.

Our room was large for most hotel room standards. First room had a small kitchenette, table, two chairs, sofa bed and its own a/c unit. The second room had two beds, chair, dresser, television, large open closet and a dated but adequate bathroom with plenty of bath essentials--soaps and shampoos.

We have read a lot of bad reviews concerning beds..We can say that I personally watched many new mattresses going up the stairs and being replaced. Not sure if we had the new mattresses as I completely realize that mattress comfort is highly subjective--think we all wish we could bring our own from home, lol.

Rooms were clean and basic. The room décor isn't super modern but not stuck in the 1960's either. Probabably more like early 90's. All the bedding seemed to be new. I suppose if you want ultra modern try the big hotel down the road for over $300 a night!. Refrigerator worked great, didn't use the microwave and their was several sets if plates, cups, bowls, silverware for use. Both HVAC units worked well and did their jobs. sofa was comfy--didn't open it to check the mattress -- and it was on wheels so I was able to turn it so that it looked directly out to the Gulf of Mexico :-). Bathroom was clean and everything worked, not super updated, but neither is the bath at my own home.

Dave at the front desk was super helpful as we had several questions concerning future rates, parking for additional guests (yes the website says one car only per room), eateries, where to buy groceries, pool temps etc.

There is an elevator that was quick and always worked. The grounds were clean and a lot of pink flamingos seemed to have taken up residence. Dave told us the large crystal clear pool was heated to 78 degrees..we never got in but I did see other families in there and enjoying it. Several tiki type umbrella table/chair sets, many sun loungers and more pink flamingos finished out the pool area.

Clearwater Beach is directly across the street...there is a pedestrian crosswalk directly in front of the hotel too -- so no worries crossing GulfView Blvd. You can rent beach chairs and umbrallas for $25 a day at the beach or just walk a few blocks down to Pier 60 which has nightly sunset festival. Public restrooms and beach showers are located directly across the street--everything you need so close...so perfect!

Sunsets. well what can we say. We stood right on the balcony one night and watched the most perfect sunset, you won't be disasppointed.

So you may find cheaper hotels, but not with this location!!!. There are definitely more expensive rooms on the beach but why spend the $. You get a great clean room with super people.

Room Tip: Family suites have the great gulf and pool view!!

Location is what this hotel has going for it, right across the street from beautiful Clearwater Beach. Other than that, it's a tired property. We stayed 2 days, January 23-24. Here's my experience:
• The bathroom vanity is part of the living space, so when you're doing anything, makeup, hairdrying, tooth brushing, everyone gets to enjoy the experience too.
• The vanity in our room had burned out overhead fluorescent lighting with broken plexiglass. I had to take a lamp from the bedroom in order to see to get ready in the morning. A call to the front office and the light was fixed that day, and they removed the broken plexiglass, but left bare bulbs.
• The room adjacent to ours on the second floor was ajar for 2 days. No one was staying in the room, but the bolt was extended and the door ajar. Kind of creepy.
When my son joined me the 2nd day, we had two cars and were charged $20 for the additional vehicle- you need to have a tag in the car or they will tow it.
• Yellow water- Dim lighting in the room hid the scrapes and dents in the walls, but prevented me from seeing that the water I used for 2 days in the kitchen area to make coffee was yellow in color. I ran the tap for several minutes and it did not clear up. I reported it to the office, but they said is was a problem with the city water. Really? The water at the vanity and toilet wasn't that special color.
• Beds - hard!
• Items of trash on the exterior walkway to our room stayed there for the 2 days we were there.
• Overall room condition - this room looks like it's weathered quite a few spring breaks and needs some fixing up. Dings, marks, broken light fixtures, dirty carpet.
Overall, decent price, great location. Just don't have high expectations.

I stayed here just for one night at a good price. Location is great. It overlooks clearwater beach and you can walk to the beach. For the price we paid, it was worth the stay. We were upgraded to a room with a mini fridge/sink and our other guests had a connecting room which was nice to be able to join our rooms. Our room had nice beds and was clean. Our joint room had outdated beds and no view of the ocean...I guess I was glad that I stayed in the upgrade one. If your looking for a cheaper hotel with great location and don't mind some outdated things, then it's a good choice. If modern amenities and luxury are what your are looking for then stay elsewhere. This hotel has everything you need to just rest your head after a day at the beach. Pool looked clean, but it was a little chilly to utilize it. Walking distance to everything.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the ocean...even a pool view room was nice as you can overlook the pool an...
