First, let me start off with this; we were looking for an inexpensive trip for Spring Break and chose the Quality Hotel on the Beach because it was the 2nd best price AA Vacations had to offer and it was on the beach.
Though the Check-In desk/area is quite small, the process went quickly. Our room was not ready, so the rep recommended a couple of places nearby for lunch. We wound up at Gondolier's Pizza accross the street and the food was very good (more on that later).
When our room was ready, we were shocked at the size of it.....Nearly twice the size of the room my sister was staying in at the Hilton up the street. This room could easily sleep 8 with a couple rollaways!! Now, we did pay the upgrade ($40 at the time, now $70 a night) for a beachfront room and ours was one of the corner rooms which was much larger than the standard rooms.
The room was clean and well serviced through the week. Bathroom was nice with a 4' vanity/sink area and seperate shower/toilet area. Storage was good, with plenty of room for the 3 of us to put our clothes and luggage for the week. The Beds were the ONLY weak point we found in the room.....They were not very comfortable and took a couple nights to get used to. The Balcony was large enough for 4 adults to sit and enjoy a few "pops" while watching the sunset.
Weakest part of the pool/beach area was the sand.......It wasn't soft and powdery like it is on the huge public beach. It was actually a little uncomfortable to walk on util you got down to the water. The pool was nice and HEATED!!!! The temps were in the 60's early and late in the day with a strong breeze, but the pool was very comfortable. There were plenty of FREE pool/beach chairs to be had as well (you have to rent chairs on the large beach).
We did not eat at the attached IHOP, but assume it would be like the ones here at home. We did spend time at Tropix Bar which had decent Rum Runners in 32 oz cups (7.75)....as well as Bud/Bud Light 32ozers(6.50). The best part of this bar, though was the view....Perfect sunset views nightly and great view of the channel where we were able to watch dolphins swimming by every night.
I would recommend Gondolier's Pizza across the street. Being total pizza snobs from Chicago, we struggled in the past to find decent pizza in Florida.......Well, we found it!!! This was the best pizza we have had outside Chicago! And the price was reasonable, 14 bucks for a large with pepperoni. There was plenty of other food within walking distance as well as Walgreens and shops.
I would have to say that the biggest endorsement for the Quality Hotel on the Beach came from my sister and her family who spent most of the time we were there at the Quality and NOT at the Hilton where they were staying!!
