Hampton Inn Clearwater Central
Ranked #60 of 98 Hotels in Clearwater
Reviewed 27 March 2011

Stayed in this hotel on the recommendation of a friend who is also interested in the Phillies Spring training games. This hotel is only a 10-15 minute walk to the stadium. For this purpose, it's a very convenient location. If you're interested in the beach, you should consider someplace further down route 60 which has heavy traffic most of the day and is under construction in lots of places. The hotel itself is about average for a value hotel. We had a room with 2 queen beds that were extremely comfortable. The bathroom is ridiculously small. It was clean but be prepared to be cramped. The sink is outside the bathroom with ample room for all your personal needs. Plenty of towels, tissue, etc. One more note of caution about the bathroom; the toilet flush is extremely slow and requires flushing more than once at times. Our check in was o.k. but finding the hotel room was not easy. The hotel has all outside entrances so leave your luggage in the car. The buildings have letters on them but do not indicate the range of room numbers. We stayed in room 270, second floor, and it was hard to read the room numbers from the car even on the first floor. We had an ice machine right outside our room but fortunately it wasn't working or depending what your feelings about ice machine noise is, you might find convenient. A quick trip down the steps and there was another one that was working, along with a vending machine for sodas, etc. There are only a couple of elevators and they are not spaced out very well; we had to walk a pretty good distance to find one. We had a short walk to the swimming pool which was very nice. Clean, but not heated with lots of friendly Phillies fans gathered round. There are only a few tables with umbrellas so pick one early. I found ample chairs around the pool. There is a wading pool with a waterfall and a jacuzzi that was nice and hot. Breakfast was included every morning as well as a newspaper delivered to your hotel room. Breakfast was o.k., plenty of scrambled eggs, turkey sausage links, waffle machine, bagels, danish, o.j., and plenty of coffee. The coffee is always on and this was handy when chilling at night in the lobby. We are used to staying at Marriott's but this place was close to where we wanted to be, and it is a good value for this time of year. (under $150 a night with AAA rate). Free internet is provided, and there is also a small business center off of the lobby with a couple of computers and printers that we used to print our boarding passes for the flight home. There are two places to eat within 5 minutes walking distance; the famous Lenny's for breakfast and lunch only(long, long lines during spring training), and the Tilted Kilt; something like a Hooters with a better variety of food and plenty of t.v. sets. We got in our car and went north on Rt.19 about 4 miles to a place called The Grillsmith in a shopping center. Great food, especially the crab and shrimp cakes, and I also had a fabulous Filet Mignon. By the way, there is a small refrigerator in the room that will hold cans, bottles, but not much else. There is also plenty of shopping in the area; Malls, food stores, chain food places, etc. All in all a good hotel for what we wanted to do in Clearwater.

This property appears to be a 1970s era Holiday inn that has been updated. Exterior entry to rooms from parking lot. Rooms clean. Staff pleasant and competent. Good value for the money. Breakfast consistent with Hampton Inn standards. Pool nice.

The Hampton Inn Clearwater Central is a good place to stay with kids and your family. Centrally located to the beaches and the airport makes this a good place to stay. Tons of food and shoping near by as well. The pool is nice and heated and hot tub is nice too.
The only drawback is that the doors are located to the outside which means you get a lot of street noise but its not enough to not make me not stay there. This hotel is bargin for its location and would definately stay here again.

We stayed here because it was a fraction of the cost to staying on the beach. It was only a very short drive to the beaches of our choice, extremely close to any shopping and lots of great places to eat. we totally enjoyed our breakfast every morning, we actually slept in one day and went out to eat breakfast.... not nearly as impressed as the hotel breakfast. I will admit that we had scrambled eggs everyday, and that part got a bit old, but the waffles are wonderful, quite a selection of hot and cold items. The pool was wonderful, the rooms were clean, the bathroom was small but functional. It's nice to have the sink outside of the bathroom so that 2 people can be getting ready at the same time. The staff was SO helpful, even tho they had several new staff members, everyone was wonderful! Wes & Nancy were so helpful when it came to answering tons of questions for us, very helpful and informative. The beds were amazing!! SO comfy, didn't really want to come back home to my bed!! LOL the pillows were great too! we found it quiet, comfortable and homey. A little dated yes, but they are making an effort. Would I stay here again?? absolutely!!

We've stayed at the Hampton twice now- one with "Hilton Free Days" and another where we paid.
Good place- if a little hard to find due to the proximity to highway 19's overpass.
John Henry and his staff have worked very hard to make this a first-class hotel. The rates are o.k., but what really sets this place apart is the service of the staff.
The beds are a little "iffy" regarding comfort- one of our party loved it, the other person in the party felt it uncomfortable.

Our family stayed here for a funeral and burial in Clearwater. This property seems to have been acquired by Hampton and its change-over to franchise standards misses the mark.
First, my COMPLIMENTS: The staff should win hospitality awards, especially when finding me a large sink and sharp knife so that I could freshen up a rose bouquet. We also appreciated their large round b'fast tables, so that an extended family can eat together.
Now, the SHORTCOMINGS: the water was off in the afternoon, preventing some in our party from showering before the church memorial. Major snafu! Additionally, I was in 2 different rooms and they both had quite small bathrooms - so tiny that the door came 1/2 inch from the toilet when you closed it. Since the only sink is outside the room, one has NO privacy at the sink. It's also hard for an early-riser to groom at the sink without waking up the whole room with light and noise.

I liked this hotel. The hotel is not on the beach, but is conveniently located between the airport and Pier 60. The location reduced our driving. The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was excellent. They have a nice swimming pool and fitness area.
