We had dinner here on New Year's Eve. Our reservation was for eight o'clock. We arrived early and decided to have a drink in the lounge. Good decision. The service was excellent. The wine list was interesting and extensive. We ordered glasses of veuve cliquot. We asked our server if she knew the best viewing place for the midnight fireworks. We thought she might be local and would easily have the answer. She didn't but checked with someone to get the info. It was really busy in the lounge. After all it was New Year's Eve, but she took the time to get an answer to our question. We then went into the restaurant for dinner. We had a fabulous dinner. The meal consisted of 5 courses with excellent choices for each course. One of the things we enjoyed was the butternut squash bisque. It had a a pear instead of the usual apple and was delicately spiced to enhance the beef that was also in the dish. Would never have thought these flavors would blend so well. We chose beef Wellington as our main entree. Excellent. The service was efficient and professional. Dishes were unobtrusively removed and the courses were served promptly. Remember, this was New Year's Eve , so the restaurant was very busy and yet we were not rushed! We also enjoyed the fireworks display having gotten the advice for the best viewing point from the helpful server in the lounge.

Food is okay but poor service. Save your money and go some place where you're appreciated. We waited 10 minutes for our waitress. Ordered a pitcher of beer, soda and two appetizers. The pitcher of beer took 25 minutes to get to our table and we still haven't receive our appetizers. Another 30 minutes passed when we finally flagged down the manager and asked if she could see what was taking our appetizers so long. She came back and said "It will be right out." The waitress brought over our appetizers WITH our food. We only received 1 of 2 appetizers and our meal was warm not hot. The manager NEVER came back to see if everything was okay or to apologize for the bad service. Don't have any good things to say about the Original Hooters. :(

The city of Clearwater is an excellent place. The downtown area has little shops, festivals on the water, and Winter the Dolphin. The beach is less than 10 minutes away. Which has the marine with boats to take trips on. The beach has the Pier 60 festival every weekend. The nature parks have plenty of trails to follow and see the wildlife and plants. Many wonderful restaurants with different cuisines. Excellent seafood restaurants. There is a little something for the whole family.

Pete and Shorty's is one of the best little secrets on the main drag to get to Clearwater Beach. It is a block away from the original Hooters and is the best! A quaint nothing fancy bar and restaurant where you can get bar food, great specials, and comfort food like meatloaf, Shephard's pie and macaroni and cheese. The best.....Shorty Burgers. Our family orders at least a dozen each time we go, and that is at least 3 times in the week we go for Spring Break. Embarassingly enough, we also sneak home extras in our suitcase for the flight and ride home!
