I had a wonderful stay from May 6-7, 2007. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, especially in holding my luggage while I interviewed at FIU and awaited my night flight. I would definitely recommended the hotel to visitors to Greater Miami, and particularly Coral Gables.

PS- I was able to walk to Venetian Pools and the Biltmore Hotel from there, and ride on the trolley up and down Ponce de Leon. They have a prime location in Coral Gables.

This is an extremely pretty hotel with old-fashioned charm. Our room was terribly small but so cute that we didn't care. It was quite clean.

The restaurant in the hotel is reasonably priced and good. The food is somewhat old-fashioned (like the hotel), but that was fine with me. The complimentary breakfast was delicious with great juice and coffee, white tablecloths, etc.

After the plastic lack of personality in most modern hotels, it was really nice to step into this place and into the past.

We stayed overnight at this hotel on Feb. 13th, 2007. While this property would be considered quaint on the Left Bank in Paris (where we've stayed) we found this hotel less than pleasing in Coral Gables. The included breakfast was juice, coffee and one croissant or muffin. The room was tiny, the bathroom claustrophobic with no room to place your toiletries or make-up. The staff was nice and helpful, the outside of the property looked like a war zone due to the scaffolding for the painting. Realize, if you go that this is a 1926 establishment with many antiques. If you like glitz and space, this is not the place for you.

We have had two experiences with this hotel and we will not chance a third. We booked the hotel through Hotels.Com in August of 2006. We made this trip because we were delivering our son to start his first year at the University of Miami. He needed to stay with us for the first night at the hotel. Therefore, I called the hotel directly and told them about this situation and that we would need a rollaway bed for one night. The person who I spoke to told me that there would not be a problem and I should just tell "them" this when we checked in. When we checked in, we were told that our assigned room could not accommodate a rollaway. After much to do, a person who was trying to be helpful put us in another room for the first night and when our son left, we moved to our originally assigned room. We were comfortable enough (frankly, we're not very fussy) and the hotel is very conveniently located---walking distance to the Miracle Mile and an easy drive to the University of Miami.
We planned to return in October for Parents' weekend at the University. The front desk had urged us to book directly with the hotel rather than through Hotels.Com. So, I called from home and made a reservation for four nights. When we arrived last Thursday, we were informed that we had only reserved one night and the hotel was full for the other nights. The person at the front desk (who I believe was the owner) told us that we would have to stay there the one night and then move to another hotel. He gave us a book to look up other hotels, but made no effort to assist with that process. After a few calls, we were finally able to book a Best Western about 10 blocks away for the four nights. He told us that he was going to charge us for the one night even if we did not stay there for that night. We informed him that we will absolutely challenge the charge if it shows up on our credit card. When I personally booked the four nights directly with the hotel, I already had plane tickets and absolutely knew I needed four nights. It appeared there was some type of group meeting there, and I suspect they double booked our other three nights to accommodate them. Either that, or they were simply incompetent and even worse, simply did not care. We will NOT be taking any more chances with this hotel.

This hotel was always a landmark in Miami... but it's glory days are long over. They have taken off the beautiful vine outside, to uncover cracked, discolored paint. The lobby, and whole hotel for that matter, is dark, musty, and not inviting. I'm not sure where to begin with the elevator. I guess you can call it an antique, but I just call it creepy. They do have plasma TV's in the rooms, to justify how overpriced it is.... I wouldn't recommend staying here, unless you want... ummm... an experience.
