Okay, maybe I'm biased because I live in the same city , but this is truly an amazing place. Lots of tropical trees and plants to see. The butterfly aviary is amazing. It is just do relaxing to walk around and enjoy this place. At certain times of the year you will find hidden treasures of artwork on display (not during hurricane season for obvious reasons ). The garden also hosts great festivals such as the Mango Festival which was the purpose of our most recent visit. This place is a real gem. And it had a great history from its connection to David Fairchild.

This place is amazing! Came with a friend on a day with beautiful weather..one of the nicest days I remember in years, and it was perfect. Everything was in bloom and green, butterflies and hummingbirds all over the place and NO mosquitos..none at all. The smell of flowers hung heavy in the air and there was a gentle breeze. Unbeknownst to us in planning our visit was an exhibition going of the renowned glass sculptor artist Chihuly. The glass sculptures were placed strategically througout the gardens and greenhouse and added even more wonder and beauty to the place. This was completely serendipitous. We decided to pick our own special spot in the gardens for a picnic with wine and enjoy the day. We lingered at Fairchild for hours and left little of it unexplored. There are thousands of plants, palms, trees, flowers and most are labeled well. There are lakes, ponds, and pathways everywhere east to get lost but you wont.
If in Miami and it is a pretty day you must come here. Pack a picnic lunch and allow for 2 to 3 hours to explore...it is a little slice of paradise

Fairchild Gardens is one of the premiere tropical botanical gardens in the world. It is truly amazing from the rainforest, to the dessert area with succulents, to the vines, bamboos, not to mention the area is on Biscayne Bay. There are samples of everything you can imagine here due to David Fairchild's travels as his vision and forethought brought this amazing collection to South Florida.

Of course the ideal months to visit are December through March when the weather is Miami is so beautiful. Summer can be hot but there are places in the garden you can duck into to cool off. Don't miss the indoor gardens complete with rare species protected from the winter where the ponds are filled with electric blue fish.

I highly recommend becoming a member if you feel you will visit more than once a year. This supports the gardens financially, gives you the magazine and electronic newsletters and special pricing for events that take place all year long, like the famous Mango Festival in July.

I am an avid photographer and can spend hours here taking photographs!

Fairchild has been around for decades as a place to see wonderful plants. In recent years, it's made an effort to have non-botanical things (art, butterflies, etc.). If you're keen on plants, this is THE place to go. The plants are well-labeled and (despite what some uninformed visitors might think) often the only individuals of their kind it cultivation. It's definitely a plantsman's garden. The new(ish) butterfly exhibit is nice (although not very sustainable: the pupae are shipped in on a weekly basis). The Chocolate and Mango Festivals are great fun, if your are a fan of those products. My only complaint is the price of admission: $25 is pretty steep. Look to go on Donation Days or use your reciprocal admission from another botanical garden (see Amer. Hort. Society's website [ahs.org] for participating gardens).

Beautiful gardens, but not the most impressive I've ever seen. Lots of palms that you can see all over Florida. I didn' t see many flowers. Train will take you through the whole garden. YOU MUST bring with you some, lots of mosquitoes spray. I visited the garden at 1pm, sunny day, and there were loots of mosquitoes.
