“Great boat ramp convenient for scallop season”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Other than the AC not being adequate, the overall stay was worth the price. Boat ramp and dining facilities worth the trip during scallop season, we would stay there again. The staff was attentive and for a family trip well worth it.

We stayed here just one night, to visit relatives, and found the motel to be pretty popular with the boating crowds, especially during Scalloping season. It is an older BW but still clean with ample free continental breakfast. Front desk ladies were helpful and friendly. There is restaurant next door, plus this BW has it's own boat slips, nice pool, with cook-out pavilions, and a Dive shop right next door, with the boat launch, almost at your 'back door'. What convenience for boaters!!

We had asked for a ADA compliant room (ones with grab bars, in bathroom), and we were given a nice large room, actually MORE than what we had booked -- it even had the 'roll-in' shower, with hand-held shower head, bench in shower. The vanity and sink were however, outside of the shower/toilet area. We also had a microwave and refrigerator, free wi-fi, large table with 2 chairs and a KING bed. ALL was nice and clean, smelled fresh, no complaints in that area. The room #3101 was in Bldg. 3, which was in back of the main building -- for a requested ADA room we wished for it to at least be in the Main building, so it would have been closer to the LOBBY and Breakfast, but marked that off to address "next time" we stay here. Being in Bldg. 3, you have an easy walk on a side walk, to the main building, up some steps to get to lobby -- this was easy walk for most people, but could be challenging to the Special Needs person, with mobility issues.

Our 2 complaints that really need attention is: (1) Step down out of Lobby at the back door - this entry/exit double doors does have yellow paint (chipped) warning of a step UP, if you are entering, but there is nothing to remind people exiting the lobby, to STEP DOWN -- while we were there I noticed 2 people and myself, almost fall, because of the "Step down" after opening the door, to exit......it's about a 4 inch (?) step down, too -- just enough to catch you off balance....something needs to be done about that, for SAFETY reasons.

(2) Complaint -- the ADA ROOM with ROLL IN shower -- REALLY UNSAFE!!!! With the position of the 'hand held' shower fixture, and the continuous tile floor, to accommodate a wheel chair -- when shower is ON, you end up FLOODING THE FLOOR!!! My husband was using the shower, and all the water spraying out of shower head, was aimed at the shower curtain (flimsy) and flooding the floor with water, with no way to control the shower head, or turn it toward the back of shower!!!!! Since my husband is physically able to bathe standing up, he is not very stable on his feet, and when I looked in to bring him his toiletries, I was wading in water!!!! After hurriedly figuring out what the problem was, with no way of correcting it, unless you turned off water -- I hurriedly called the front desk, even after hours -- told the lady our problem, and I needed about 4 or so towels, so I could MOP UP the bathroom, so my husband would not FALL DOWN, to towel off!!!! Within a few mins., however, an attendant brought us about 4-5 fresh towels, and I was able to lay them out all over the floor, to soak up the water ---- that helped alot, but it was still "spongy" to walk on all night, and you had to navigate into the bathroom, during the night, barefoot, so you wouldn't ruin slippers!

IF we had stayed few more nights, I would have requested another room......so I'm hoping they look into this situation and come up with a solution that doesn't FLOOD the bathroom floors!!

We will stay here again, but will ask for "limited" ADA (maybe just grab bars), and not go the full gamut of the roll in shower idea!! I did fill out a "maintenance" form, so maybe they will take a look at this problem. All in all, the bed was comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep, and left next day -- also, they have a decent "check out" time of NOON.....which helps a lot if you take a while waking up or getting ready to "check out".

Room Tip: If needing an ADA ROOM, Please ask questions and go look at them; Our unfortunate incident with the...

Not as good as before. Room musty, parking attendant very rude, boat ramp is a problem with people getting in and out. Stay at hotel every year for the past 3 years and it appears to be going down hill instead of uphill or remaining the same.

The lobby is clean (and misleading) the staff goes out of their way with kindness and are accommodating. The LOCATION is however the best thing this place has to offer, it is on the banks of the river, and the nightly fee includes a boat slip, it is especially helpful during scallop season. There is a Restaurant right next door, Crackers, there is also a dive shop and if you do not have a boat there are charters offered.
That being said, the rooms are so old, the carpets are stinky, and we had to put towels down on the bed because they too smelled horrible, I left there feeling dirty and was glad when I was able to jump in the water to get the odor of the room off. They do not supply you with many towels, and I was thankful I had packed my own clean ones. They have coffee in the lobby and offer a few breakfast items which are much needed to refuel after the horrible night sleep you will get. If you are into location and not cleanliness, this is the place for you.

My stay was awesome. the place to stay if you are interested in putting your boat in the river and going out to the gulf of Mexico for collecting scallops! Francis has been there as long as I can remember and does an excellent job to accommodate her guest staying there. Waffles for breakfast with peanut butter!

This hotel was located right on the banks of the river and had many boats and captains ready to charter your on-water experience for you. We went scalloping and used Capt. Mark, who not only helped us get our fill but brought us to the scenic beauty of the area, where we enjoyed water sports and experiencing the many fresh water springs in the area. He recommended the hotel to us. The hotel has a dive shop and a great restaurant on the premises as well. We felt very comfortable in the hotel and using the amenities it offered

Rooms are a little dated with window unit type air-conditioning in a humid environment (not highly effective). Breakfast unremarkable but nice they had it. If you want to be on the water walking distance from Crackers (nice place to eat/drink) and manatee tours this is the place to stay as there is not much else to choose from in Crystal River. If you want a newer place with a little drive to tours and right on the main highway (possible road noise) then Hampton Inn would be a better choice.... it all depends what you are looking for. If you plan to be in Crystal River any length of time I would suggest a vacation rental, but Best Western is great if you are looking for a shorter stay. We enjoyed the location.

Room Tip: There are a few rooms that you can actually get a peek of the water from, request them or you will n...
