We have not been to the Plantation Inn for a few years, but needed a place to meet friends for a long weekend. The last time we were there it was a little run down, but they have redone the entire place and it is quaint and up to date. It is very relaxing, definitely reserve a patio room! The facility is compact but still roomy, grounds and facility were very clean, rooms are a great size with a very good mattress, Sunday brunch is a must, and the staff were helpful and cordial.

The hotel is great and the staff superior. We were there 5 days, everything was great. The only problem is Choice hotels owns them now and you have to book thru choice to get a good room. Do not believe Choice best rate guarantee, they do not honor it. Book the best rate thru choice and accept it, you can find lower rates on booking.com but the good rooms are harder to get.

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor and on the water.

We went today to see manatees with Plantation on Crystal River's Manatee Tour. It was a great time! The captain seemed extremely knowledgeable and passionate about manatees and equally passionate about helping others get a great experience with them. I will say though, that there is much more to their tour than manatees alone (which is a chance in a lifetime to say the least) and I hope everyone on the boat could appreciate that. The captain knew the waters of the Crystal River Springs like they were his home, and he was able to take us to places I'm sure I would have gotten lost trying to find on my own in a kayak. He took us to the Kings Spring (not into it though) but into and all around the Three Sisters Springs and to some other springs (although we did not get out for the others).

If I would give a suggestion, it would be to avoid getting divers into the water unless it's clear enough to see a manatee (that is, not in murky water). Looking for a manatee in murky water can seem like looking for a needle in a hay stack and very frustrating (it's a moving needle too)- even if it's the only manatee they've seen all day. Also, it encourages divers to crowd on a manatee because they have to get close to see one through the haze. While I'm not an expert in giving manatee tours, this is my first glimpse impression of what it can be like to do so. And that is my honest suggestion.

Lastly, to put this all in context, I did get to see two manatees in the water. Also, I'm a diver and very much enjoy being in the water to relax and look around. Thus, I'm not at all disappointed with my experience today and would do it again.

Oh, and it pays to bring a good underwater camera (if you're already into that sort of thing).

We LOVED the access to the dive shop for all types of water adventures. We took the tour where we snorkeled with the manatees & were amazed at there size & gentleness. Rhonda was our guide & she did a fabulous job of teaching us how to respect the gentile giants. Three Sisters Spring was stunning. Our children haven't stopped talking about it. The pool was great for the entire family too. The rooms were okay. Newly updated. We would stay here again if in the area.

With random booking we drive from St. Augustine to Crystal river and ended up in Plantation. We stayed 2 nights. Reason for visit was swimming with manatee..
Place is great. Very quite, nice bar, nice rooms. Friendly staff.
Only restaurant menu make me to not rate this place with excellent.
4 different food orders, didnt deserve together average rate. Excuse for so bad menu was; new menu.. so i guess, they need some time for improvment..
Suggest to everybody to stay here. Every night on bar they have a special of the night.
Martini was one night, 20 different Martinis, 5$ each.. Nice offer.. Nice place.
Hopefully one day when I comeback, they gona improve a restaurant menu.

Thank you for your sharing your recent feedback with us about your recent stay. The experience you had as it relates to your dining experience is not what we strive for or are building for at this time. We are currently working on new programs and menu items along with training that will greatly improve our offerings and service. In the coming months when you come back to visit with us during scalloping season we would love the opportunity to provide you with a superior dining experience. Our room in the Rose Building was very clean and had great amenities. The dining room in the registration building was recently renovated and the breakfast was fabulous!! I would recommend this for couples traveling to the Crystal River. We did the Manatee Tour which was a blast!

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated rooms

We found this property to be OK. Maybe we should call it good but not so great. The weather had a lot to do with it. It was cool, windy, with some rain/drizzle here and there. We spent 2 days & 3 nights so we had 2 full days for a quick winter warm-up away from New York. The weather notwithstanding, for those folks who like paddle boating, snorkeling, hiking, fishing, etc. this is a great area. We're not that young and we prefer to walk around and look at things, or, better yet, get chauffeured around to look at things that are pointed out to us. In the area, we went to Weeki Wachee (State Park....needs work) and Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park (Pretty nice) and we took the hotel's "Sunset Cruise" (pretty nice except that it was COLD). Now, as far as the property itself goes . . . it could be a lot better, but it seems to 'miss the mark' on just about everything. That includes physical plant, service, attitude, competence, etc. Most of the people seemed to be trying hard, but I think that they were not well trained and did not have adequate knowledge of the property. Couple all this with inattentive paint work, "halfway" groundskeeping, and some poor choices of colors, design, etc. and it all adds up to a management/ownership problem. In summary, if you've got kids and you all like outdoorsy stuff, you'll probably have a very good time here. It's just not a very relaxing place. But, it could be. Too bad.

Room Tip: We had a room at the end of the hall so we had other people on only one side of the very thin walls...

Dear Valued Guest,

I am very apologetic that we failed to meet your expectations during your recent visit with us. Your feedback is very much appreciated. We are continuously working towards the goal of total guest satisfaction in all aspects of a guest stay through programmed staff training as we head into the rest of the year. The Plantation is an outdoor adventures paradise and often unfortunately for us bad weather has a lot to do with many of our activities.
