HYATT house Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port

My husband travels a lot for work and always stays at a Hyatt. So when we were planning our cruise vacation and needed a place to stay the night before we got our cruise, we chose this hotel. Friends of ours had used this particular hotel in the past and gave it 2 thumbs up so we were excited to know that off the bat. When we arrived at the airport we called the hotel and they had their free shuttle out to pick us up within 15 minutes. Quick ride to the hotel, quick ck in, and arrived to our beautiful room in less than 30 minutes. They also provided us with the convenient reservations for the shuttle company they work with to get us to the port to board our cruise the next day. It was $8 per person and well spent! (Plus we called this shuttle service to pick us back up a week later. ) We couldn't be more happy with the convenience and quality of care we were given. The complementary breakfast was very nice and it felt so good to just be taken care of for once. It seems that in the past few years businesses in general have just lost their touch with customer service, maybe it's because of jerks all over trying to take advantage...i don't know. BUT one thing for certain this Hyatt didn't disappoint. (They also helped us out on our way back from the cruise port and before we headed to the airport the day we left for home. .;) ) ABOVE AND BEYOND SERVICE!!

We stayed here 2 nights pre-cruise and glad we chose this location as there are a couple both fast food and resturants within walking distance and also a shopping center across the street. This beats other 2 hotels that are closer to the FLL airport. It is next to the highway but not noisy at all.

Check in was quick and efficient. We were in one bedroom suite. It has everything you need for a short stay except a tea kettle but we used a pot to boil water instead. The room looks exactly like photos, both bed and sofa bed were comfortable. My only pet peeve is lack of shower cap in the bathroom!!

We enjoyed the breakfast and happy hour munchies. The staff we encountered were all friendly and wanted to know if everything was ok. There are also a couple computer station you can use to check e mail and print boarding passes.

I know the hotel offer shuttle service (with a fee) to FLL cruise port but we didn't utilize this service.

We arrived from the airpor, tired, in the early hours of the morning, with the shuttle provided from the Hyatt Summerfield Suite to be checked in efficiently and quickly to our suite.
We were located on the highest floor and what a surprise in entering the suite. It was a studio with a king size bed, luxurious pillows, duvet, quality sheets, a hide a be in the living room area, a giant flat screen tv, free WiFi, a fridge, stove, microvave, china and cutlery, pots and pans, everything provided to make you fell at home away from home.

The marble bathroom was grand and cosy with a glass shower, big enough to fit 6 people. The quality of the products provided (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap) was of high quality. The next morning we found out fulll breakfast was provided free of charge and happies were also provided from 5:00 to 7:00 accompanied with free wine and beer. The personnel was highly skilled and professional. The building in approx. 2 years old and super clean. The pool area is also quite big and peaceful. We would definitely stay there again and have recommended it to friends and other travellers. You get much more for your money than expected. The room was $118.00 US a night. Wow what a deal.

The

Room Tip: The whole building is very quiet and well located.

We stayed at this hotel one evening prior to our cruise vacation. Prices in Ft. Lauderdale were very high this weekend (around $165 on average) because of a conference. We booked a two bedroom suite for around $225 and shared it with another couple. One bedroom had a king bed and private washroom. The other bedroom had two queen beds. The couch pulled out in the living room. $225 for 8 people is not a bad deal. The kitchen was as good as I have ever seen in any hotel/suite.

The only issues were that we stayed on the top floor and the elevator took ages and always seemed to be full with people with huge amounts of luggage (other cruisers like ourselves I assume). Also, we walked over to the shops that were nearby to do some pre-cruise shopping. We were sadly disappointed by the extremely high prices at K-mart as compared to other similar stores we usually shop at. There are very few restaurants within walking distance to this hotel that we could find.

The breakfast included at the hotel was fantastic. We are cruising out of Fort Lauderdale next year again, and this is the first hotel I will look at for availability.

Stayed one night for business. As best I can tell, the hotel is competing with Residence Inn & Homewood Suites type properties. While there are many similarities in the room setup between the three chains, Summerfield falls short on many of the important details in this hotel category.

Positives:
The hotel is about 1 year old

Room was well appointed and quiet.

Outdoor pool was large enough to swim laps in without constantly turning around.

Negatives:
Rooms had central air/heat, which generally is a good thing (vs. window units). However, the owner installed cheap-o thermostats in the room that constantly dial back the thermostat whenever you leave your room. Upon arrival, the room was hot & stuffy. I fire up the A/C and head out to a meeting. Get back for a break between meetings only to find that the thermostat has gone into "save the owner money" mode and the room is as hot as when I arrived several hours prior. Fire up the A/C again and sweat through a shirt waiting for the room to cool. Left for my next meeting and was not looking forward to returning to my room later that evening, because I knew it would once again be hot. Since it takes about 90 minutes to cool the room, forcing guests to sweat it out in their room upon returning is absolutely unacceptable. I am all for saving energy, but this is too extreme. If the owner really wants to save energy, get rid of the A/C completely and give guests one of those Asian hand fans upon check-in.

The complimentary breakfast falls far short of the standard set by Residence Inn and Homewood Suites. No need to dwell on the specific shortcomings, other than to say that Summerfield has a lot to learn from the competition.

Front desk staff was fairly anemic. They did, however, give me a welcome bag with water, chips, & candy bar as I was checking out in the morning. It would have been a nice touch if they had provided it to me when I checked in.

Overall, given the inability to execute the details properly (in particular the thermostat fiasco), I would not stay at this property again.

Thank you for your review of the Hyatt Summerfield Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport South.
Guest comments are highly valued and taken very seriously by our management team.
We appreciate your comments regarding our thermostats. Our thermostats are desined and set to stay at 72 degrees if the room is vacant. The thermostat is not set up to completely shut off...so that when you do get to your room it is at a comfortable temperature. Our most sincere apologies that we fell short in this area during your stay.
Again, thank you for taking the time to post your review. If your travel needs bring you back to Fort Lauderdale, we would like an opportunity at a second chance.

Thank you,

Check-in was horrific! Checked in on May 1, 2011 at 3:10 p.m. Was told suite would be ready in 5 minutes. Half an hour later was still waiting - did not get checked in until 4:30 p.m. This is unexcusable. We were not the only ones - there were 2 other families who had also been waiting at least an 1 and a half. when finally got checked in, there was no apology from the staff. There were 3 gals behind the front desk during our wait - one picking her teeth, and the other two text messaging. Where is management at this hotel? He/she needs to be more involved and show some guest appreciation. Now, for the suite. It was a 2 bedroom - nice enough, except the bed was hard, the view was of other windows throughout the hotel, and the pool was facing a parking lot - not very appealing. The breakfast left a lot to be desired. We were supposed to stay 5 nights and immediately checked out the next morning. We ended up at the Embassy Suites in Boca Raton - what a difference - like night and day. Unfortunately, we do a lot of traveling including going to Ft. Lauderdale at least 5 times per year and will NEVER stay at a Hyatt again. Lesson learned!

My wife and I were looking for a hotel close to the airport that offered shuttle service. This hotel exceeded our expectations on all levels! The facility was quiet, immaculate, the suite included a completely equipped modern kitchen, hugh bathroom, bedroom, and living area. We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast in the morning before being wisked back to the airport . The personnel at the front desk were extremely helpful and professional. We will definitely go out of our way to stay here in the future!
