This museum is a treasure. The exhibits are professional and appropriate for the community. There are usually several artists on display. I try to go at least once every other month to catch the current exhibits and not miss any. Anyone interested in photography will enjoy.

This is the museum of one of the finest photography schools in the U.S. Small but excellent. The gallery has exhibited the dance photography of Jack Mitchell, of Dance Magazine fame, and the iconic Afghan Girl picture as well as work by new talent. Lighting is very good and the layout of the gallery is open and well planned.

So this is a gorgeous building with some very interesting photo exhibits. Unfortunately when we went, the entire downstairs was closed due to a leak. The only person working upstairs was in an exhibit hall and when asked a very rudimentary question about the exhibit, she gave the wrong answer about which exhibit was which. The photography was good but needed a little more information about the techniques and the history of the photos. We were excited that there was a childrens exhibit, but the childrens exhibit seemed like a bunch of games and photo books but no photos on the walls that would actually engage a child. Can't quibble with the price however, i would be interested to see the rest of the exhibit.

Since Daytona is not exactly a cultural hotspot, I am always delighted to find gems like the Southeast Museum of Photography, which is hidden within the Daytona State College. For FREE admission and decent hours (11-5 most days), it is a great place to spend a few hours (if you're into photography/art) or about an hour (if you're not/have children). It's an impressive building, beautiful inside and out. There are small snacks available and a pretty fountain inside. The museum itself is bigger than you think and had 4-5 separate exhibits within it. You can get a free guided tour and it all feels very educational and grand for such a place. There is a beautiful staircase and also an elevator. The exhibits vary and have lots of information about them printed to make the experience educational and interesting. It's good to have context at what you're seeing. The "gift shop" is very small but the children's area is extremely impressive!! I had no idea what to expect and it's this smallish but packed room. There is an interactive camera thing for the kids, many children's books on photography, games to play, and 3 computers to play at. Everything is kid-sized and kid-friendly in there, with beanbags and tiny chairs to sit on. The games vary from viewfinders and magnet games to board-like games and an abundance of puzzles. The computers have kids' art programs on them. I was impressed with the museum overall and the kids' area especially. The staff was all extremely nice and accommodating as well. I will definitely be going back, especially when they change exhibits.

We visited when there was an anthology with work from about 20 artists. It was awesome. We went in prepared after reviewing the website and knowing a little about the photographers. The staff wasn't incredibly helpful but the museum is easy to explore. Should take 30-45 minutes depending on your interest level. Nice free attraction.
