“BEWARE Housekeeping stole my husbands wallet!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

Very nice place to stay my kids loved it, good price and was clean. BUT my husbands wallet was stollen the 2nd day we were there by house keeping. He left it in his pants pocket under other clothing items not out in sight. We filed a police report and talked to management who done their investigation as well as the cops. Management gave us 50$ in sand dollars to be used there well for a family of 4 that's maybe a meal and a half. We were also told they were not responsible we signed paperwork at check-in, which I understand that but she rubbed it in our faces in a very insensitively. We were never offered a percentage off our stay or off a future stay. My kids loved the playground and the pools with a water slide that might be the only reason we might stay there again.

We stayed for a full week; Saturday to Saturday. Everything was great with the exception of the fact that they did not have any children activities scheduled other than Surf Camp the week we were there. We got there at 6am on Saturday Morning; check in isn't till 4pm, yet they allowed us early check in; we got our wristbands and were able to hang out at the pool and use everything there till our room was ready. We went fishing at the pier; While our room was being cleaned and were actually able to have access to our room at 2pm :) Everyone was great. Very pleasent. The rooms are lived in, yet have everything you need inorder to cook there. The weather was perfect; somedays were over cast, but it was still warm enought to get in the ocean. We had a GREAT stay as always, and look forward to returning next year. We may try later in the summer next year for warmer weather though. :)

Room Tip: The ground floor is best if you have kids tracking sand. Just remeber the ground floor is brick so y...

Right on the beach. Nice pool. Friendly staff. Had a two bedroom condo. Kitchen is very small. No balconies unless on first floor and these cannot be reserved. Requests were not taken. Resort is dated but okay for a beach vacation if not in the rooms much.

When we arrived to our room it was obvious that someone had laid on the bed and then ate some nuts, threw the wrapper in the garbage and used the bathroom, I asked to have the room re-cleaned and the bedding changed, the reply was there is not housekeeping staff after 3 pm. We received the sheets and did it ourselves. The tub in the bathroom is so soft underneath that soon someone standing in it will fall through. We asked to have a manage call us on the day we got there (and each day thereafter) in regards to the dirty room and we stayed for 7 nights and never received a call back....I don't think there is a manager. The girls working the desk take zero initiative to assist customers and her response to the dirty room was "thats a different supervisor than mine" Really ?? Also the elevator "broke" the day we got there and they we waiting on parts but was still not fixed when we left, not that I would get in an elevator at the Grand Seas, knowing how they run the place you could get stuck and it would not fall under anyone's job description to asset you in getting out! Do yourself a favour and find another hotel.

Room Tip: There is not good room we had the "upgraded" room and it was terrible and the bed was extr...

We had a trip planned to this resort from May 30-June 1 as a timeshare exchange. Initial impression was mixed. The lobby was beautiful and gave the impression of a really nice resort. Check in was easy and the desk staff were friendly. Issues:

PARKING - I was told that they were "fully booked" for the weekend and that they could only provide one parking pass, even though we had 2 cars. We were told we could park in a parallel spot on the street side of the resort on the busy A1A (of which there were 6), or that there were parking spots in the shopping plaza across the street (which you could not see from the hotel). As the weekend progressed, it was clear that there were at least 15 empty parking spots in the parking lot on site, but they still would not give us an additional parking pass claiming no vacancy.

EXTERNAL APPEARANCE - While it was clear that some refurb work had been done in years past, the general external appearance once you got past the lobby was aged and dirty. The walkways are very narrow, paint on the ground flaking, there was an unusual smell that I could not discern. We were on the 4th floor, so you could see the roofs of the lobby and front buildings which had trash on them and were covered in mildew and grime. The oceanside view of the resort was nice. The pool and tiki bar area were reasonable. Just some minor issues of general repair. The steps leading to the beach were very narrow and slippery, only one person could go up or down at a time and carrying items like beach chairs, etc., was a bit of a challenge.

ELEVATOR - There were 2 elevators, but the one that was close to our room was broken, so we had to trek to the other side of the property or use the stairs. Elevator itself was VERY small. You could not fit the luggage rack and your family in it at the same time. The luggage cart barely fit in by itself. The elevator also had a very peculiar smell and suffered from a general lack of regular cleaning/polishing. Additionally, the single elevator was VERY slow and the down button on our floor did not work. We had to use the up button to call the elevator.

ROOM - It was pretty clear that the rooms have been updated recently. Ours was reasonably contemporary in appearance and had tile floor through most of the rooms (we had 2 BR, a living room, and a kitchen. The view from the room was GREAT! There are no balconies, just windows, but they do open if you like fresh breeze. The room had some issues, though. There were multiple spots on the walls that looked as though the drywall had been patched and painted over (you know, where there is a big circular lump on the wall that was not re-textured back into the wall, and just painted over). One of the bathroom door frames had a GIANT crack running down itas though someone had tried to kick the door in. The floor was FILTHY! Took my shoes off to walk around and the bottoms of my feet were black with dirt after a few minutes. The kitchen has a dishwasher that cannot open fully (and only paritally unless the oven door is open because the handle on the over door prevents the dishwasher from opening). The TV in one of the rooms did not work. One of the toilets had a leak and was running all the time - through the whole night. WIFI was limited to one device and was very weak - didn't even bother trying to get online. The furniture was worn and had no support. We complained about the general dirtiness of the room and housekeeping did come up and gave a good scrubbing to the floor that was visible (they did not mop behind doors or under the furniture). We were also told by the son of the GM that the room that we were in was "not supposed to be occupied" and that it was supposed to be "closed for renovation" because some prior occupants had "trashed the room." They did not offer to move us to a different room, but advised us on how to try to get reimbursed from the exchange company, and offered $30 at the tiki bar (which was nice). Funny enough - when I asked for a late check out so that we could hit the beach before leaving, I was told that the room was reserved for another party later that day, so the message about it being "closed for renovation" seemed a little suspect.
One other issue was that the walls were not insulated very well, so you could hear everything that was going on in every room around you and outside. We had a 20 month old with us who sleeps with a sound machine, so fortunately we didn't get the worst of it.

BEACH - no complaints. It was not crowded, minimal car traffic. Probably the best feature the resort has.

AMENITIES - Pools were average. Tiki bar average prices without watering the drinks down too much. Arcade - half the games were out of service. Gym - did not go in, so nothing to say.

Overall I would NOT recommend this "resort" for families or anyone who is going to be staying more than overnight. I can't imagine how I would feel if I didn't live close by and was spending a week there.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

This property is in a decent beachfront location of Daytona Beach. However, it has definitely seen better days. You can tell the property was once beautiful, however, it is now worn and tired. Some things were small, like the weeds growing in the cracks on our patio, to the broken awning over our patio, to the waterslide that had a broken handle. But other things were larger, like the double sized beds in the room with old mattresses and springs that creaked loudly every time you moved, to the poor insullation. The hallways are concrete, so every time somebody went by with a luggage cart of just talking, the noise echoed down the hall.

My bigger issue with this property is the customer service. I had booked and paid for the room through Interval International. The room was for up to 4 adults. I knew I could only stay 2 nights and I did not want the room to go to waste, so I invited another couple to stay the last 5 nights. There was about a six hour time lapse between me leaving the room and the other couple coming in. I had the room thoroughly cleaned with new sheets, towels, etc. I explained to the morning front desk staff that I was leaving, but that my friends would be arriving in a few hours. I left the keys and pool bracelets with the staff and they said they would leave a note for the afternoon staff. When my friends arrived, they were told by the afternoon staff that a housekeeping fee would have to be paid and that they were going to send an emergency staff in to clean the room. Mind you, this was amongst friends and I had already had the room cleaned. We did NOT request for the room to be re-cleaned, since we never checked out of the room and had it for a full week. Nonetheless, the front desk charged my credit card for the housekeeping fee and refused to remove it. The whole scenario was unacceptable.
