Like others, I found this hotel on TripAdvisor because I needed a place to stay on a lengthy trip, and the location fit our needs. Wow, what a fortunate turn it was. The hotel is probably an old Florida railroad stop hotel, as it is a block away from the town's restored railroad station. I called from the road, and Leigh, the front desk host, was friendly and helpful from the get-go. She booked the "Safari Suite" for us. I told my wife, "I think she said, "Safari"!, when I got off the phone. When we arrived I found that it was indeed the case. As it turns out, the Safari Suite is the sole room in the hotel that the owner, Tom, got to decorate. His wife did all the rest. Well, he did a magnificent job; the Safari Suite was a blast, very comfortable and we felt as though we might have been in Nairobi in the 1950's. The bed was terrific and we had a good night's rest. The entire hotel is well laid out, and very inviting. In the morning, Tom prepared a very good breakfast, and we had an enjoyable conversation with him. He told me about the performance of "To Kill A Mockingbird", up in Monroeville, Alabama, that he and his wife had seen a week previous. Based upon his review, my wife and I got tickets for this outstanding town play. Point being, his gregarious nature and area knowledge added substantially to our trip's success. Tom's hotel is obviously a labor of love, and you would do very well indeed to choose this as a destination for a pleasant stay. If you like walking or jogging, there is a lake two blocks away from the hotel that is a very nice park setting, and has a path circling it.

Room Tip: The Safari Suite is pretty neat. Very restful and quiet.

For over a decade Hotel DeFuniak, which is actual a Bed & Breakfast, has been the bastion of cutler and excellence in DeFuniak Springs. Located in the heart of the historic district (DeFuniak has actual history, not just old buildings) and connected to Bogey's Restaurant, another gem of DeFuniak, you are blocks away from being able to stroll around one of the most perfectly round lakes in the world (a perfect one mile in circumference) surrounded by Victorian homes and the campus from 1880-1928 of the world famous Florida Winter Chautauqua, now revived and thriving in the 21st century (visit www.floridachautauquaassembly.com). Each room is uniquely decorated and themed with antiques and all rooms have a private bath, and it is priced competitively. Just a couple of miles from I-10 and right off U.S. Hwy 90 W (Hwy 90 - Nelson Ave & 8th St) it is worth the extra 8 minute drive to spend the night and go back in time when life was slower and people were friendlier. (P.S. I am The Ambassador of DeFuniak Springs, S.A., U.O. (Self-appointed, Unofficial) and I would be glad to give you a personal tour of my town. You can reach me by calling the DeFuniak Springs Visitor's Bureau at 850-333-2241 and asking for Jon or DeFuniak Springs' Ambassador.)

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent but some are on the highway. Ask for a mini suit, it's worth the few...

We are on our way from Jax to New Orleans- needed a place to crash for the night. Found this place on Trip Advisor and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. Very clean, staff super friendly, great breakfast, and it's like stepping back into the 1900s!

A very nice historic hotel in a neat little town. We were there only over night but would have to spend more time exploring the town. Everything was excellent except one suggestion, since there are no coffee makers in the room, and the hotel cafe does not open until 8:00, have coffee and hot water available in the lobby throughout the night and morning. A bowl of fruit also would be nice for those travelers leaving before the 8:00 breakfast. Overall an excellent stay.

This was our first stay at the hotel. We found it last year when we ate at Bogey's while traveling to the Panhandle. We decided to try the hotel this year and we were not disappointed. The owners could not have been more accommodating. The room was not overly large but was charming and supremely comfortable as is everything about the hotel...the lobby the cafe and the library. They are all tastefully decorated with period antiques. Breakfast was a wonderful quiche served with bacon and a biscuit. But first there was a peach yogurt with Amish canned peaches and scones. Delicious! This small hotel is a gem and we will return hopefully many more times. Cliff and Lisa

This isn't the first time we've been in Defuniak or even the first time staying here. This is the experience to write a review. We got to town late and didn't book n but one night. With the hotel completely booked we were sure to have to move again. Instead the staff found a way to accommodate us and even opened a suite for us. The handled all the extra moving stuff and allowed us to go be with our family during a difficult time. This It's the only place we will ever stay at in Defuniak from now on. Thanks For making a tough situation memorable and a little more comfortable for us. Thanks For caring

David
