I had driven past the sign many times, but when I purchased a groupon, we finally made plans to go. It is small and they have a great assortment of reptiles. The "milking" demonstration was fascinating.

This is a place that provides venom for antidote production for the medical field. Visitors can watch the staff handle the venomous snakes and extract the venom. They are behind safety glass, and visitors can see everything!
Before the extraction, the staff came out and talked with the visitors about snakes and alligators. Then people were able to hold or touch the baby alligator, the indigo snake, and the two pythons. There is ample time allowed for everyone to experience all the reptiles AND take photos. The highlight of the visit for us was seeing the cobra, intently watching people, and standing tall with the hood fully expanded. It was absolutely beautiful.
There is a nature walk here also. It was good, but seemed to be in the midst of some renovation. It was interesting to see the alligator pond, with the parents and several generations of young gators.
Our two grandsons, ages 5 and 9, loved this place. They examined every exhibit and listened intently to all the information the staff shared.
The gift shop has quite a bit in it, for its small size. Prices were average, not a lot of variety, but good quality items.
Definitely worth the 90 minute drive to visit here!

Definitely make sure you visit during one of the venom extractions, which they do twice a day. It was very interesting and informative. You also get a chance to handle a reptile before they do the extractions. Very small location with a good handfull of animals to see.

My sister and I took our children to the Reptile Discovery Center together. There were 2 girls (ages 7 and 10) and 2 boys (ages 6 and 8). The main reason we went was because my 6 year old son loves snakes and will try to catch any snake he sees. I don't want him to accidentally grab a venomous snake. We thought this would be a good place for him to safely see venomous snakes in action -- and we weren't disappointed. The facility isn't big but there is a lot packed in. First you walk into the area with the gift shop where you pay ($10.50/adult and $7.50/child with kids 5 and under free). Then you can go into the exhibit area where you see pretty much every kind of venomous snake from around the world on display. Next is the room where you watch them do the venom extraction, which is a large open room where they have other reptiles like a snapping turtle, alligators and lizards. The room where all the venomous snakes are held is separated by glass and a door with a punch code lock. Before the show, they bring out a few reptiles for the audience to pet and hold. For us, it was an alligator, Indigo snake and two ball pythons. They were patient and not rushed, letting everyone have their turn if they wanted it. I would say there were about 60 people altogether. It wasn't packed but it was definitely crowded. When the venom extraction started, it was silent in the room and all eyes were watching the window. They started with coral snakes, then cottonmouths, copperheads, eastern diamondback rattlesnakes and then cobras. It was VERY impressive, interesting and educational. No one was asking to leave or when it would be over. I know our kids wished they had done more venom extractions than they did, which was about 3 of each different kind of snake, but in reality it was more than enough. After the show, the venom extractor guy comes out to answer questions. Again, he was very patient and answered every question from people of all ages. We were some of the last ones asking questions and it was at least 30 minutes that he talked with us. We walked around the nature trail after the demonstration. It was HOT so we didn't spend too much time but did get to see all the reptiles along the trail. They said there was a picnic area but again, it was hot, so we didn't check it out. I would definitely recommend a visit to this center. It took us about an hour to get there from downtown Orlando and was worth the drive for us.
