“Outstanding early bird”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We just happened on this place and were there for the early bird. My wife had the lobster and the server said it was the same portion as the regular dinner. I tried the prime rib. The rib was OK but the lobster was excellent. With the early bird price this is an outstanding value.

“The best steaks in town!”

Adult friendly atmosphere....plenty of T.V.'s to watch you favorite sport near the bar, but not a sports bar. Excellent food...including the salads & fresh veggies. Plan on going back soon. It

“Food and Service could use improvement”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013

We decided to celebrate my birthday at this restaurant and it was our first time trying it out. We had not made a reservation so the close to one hour wait on a Saturday night was to be expected. The less than friendly host at the front door was not. We were second in line at the host stand when he finished with the gentleman ahead of us he left the stand without even an acknowledgement that we were standing there. Five minutes later her returned. He never cracked a smile and did not welcome us at all. He indicated the probable wait time and asked did we want to wait. We said yes and could we be seated at the bar until our turn. A bare minimum of a nod to us towards the bar area was his response as he handed us the buzzer. The bartender was friendly and she took our drink orders in a timely manner. She was back with my husband's drink and explained that my drink would be delayed because they were refilling the diet soda dispenser. My drink arrived 5 minutes later at which time we asked if we could order an appetizer while waiting for our table and were told yes. We ordered the calamari with marinara sauce. The calamari was served to us within a reasonable amount of time but without the sauce and we were told that it would be right out. We tasted the calamari and it was hot, tender lightly breaded and quite good. We waited, and waited and were told again that the sauce would be right out. Finally our buzzer went off and the bartender said that she would bring the calamari to us at our table. After several minutes my husband went back to the bar to retrieve our calamari stil sans sauce. A few minutes later we finally got the sauce however the calamari was quite cold and there were no utensils on the table so our appetizer course was definately less than satisfying. Our server at the table appeared nervous and probably new. She also had not learned the art of greeting the guests and showing them a little friendliness. Our order for two New York Strip steak dinners with twice baked potatoes and side salads was taken. The wait for the meal was not unreasonable given the fact that they were quite busy. However when our steaks were delivered the twice-baked potatoes were cold and our salads had not yet made it to the table. We told the waitress and requested the potatoes be replaced by hot ones and that we still did not have our salads. She left and relatively quickly the host returned with the replacement potatoes which were hot and quite good and while he was there the salads were finally delivered to the table. He again was barely hospitable. No smile, and no apology. The steaks were just o.k. although would have been better without their house herb blend with which it was seasoned and the salads were again just o.k.. A few mixed greens with two cherry tomatoes and some o.k. ranch dressing. We were never approached again by our server to ask how everything was. The atmosphere was loud and noisy, the decor less than attractive, most of the staff less than hospitable. This meal along with the appetizer and 3 drinks at the bar cost us $80.00 plus tips. Not exactly a festive birthday outing. We wont be going back. I would not recommend it to anyone.

After reading your review it begs the question where did you have dinner? Was it the Stockyard? The part about being handed a buzzer by the front door man and then when the buzzer went off is not a device we use at the Stockyard. No buzzers exist on our property. Our methods of seating waiting guest on a list resemble somewhat our 1921 building. We simply call their name. No BUZZER at the Stockyard as that form of calling customers is used by large Restaurant Chains. The rest of your story has me concerned because if this honestly truly happened here then I have not made as much progress on the customer service side as I had hoped. We do have some new people serving and Im sure a little nervous that's understandable. With that said its not an entirely impossible scenario I would hope however that they were friendly. I will look back at this weekends security tapes to see if anything similar did happen here and work with the manager on how to correct upon the events as you described in your post. Thank you Dean

“Great Sunday Brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

Sunday was the first time we have been at the Stockyard for their Brunch. We have eaten at this restaurant several times for dinner and have always been satisfied. The food is excellent. We were pleasantly surprised with their Sunday Brunch. They had made to order omelets and a HUGE side of beef in addition to a nice variety of other foods. Salads, fresh fruit, macaroni and cheese, bacon, ham, potatoes, grits, lasanga, homemade cinnamon rolls, bagels, a variety of breads to name a few of the selections. I know that I have left out many of their choices. My opinion is that almost everything is homemade. Nothing tasted as if it was commercially bought. I could not try everything so I will definately have to return. The price is very reasonable for a buffet. Granted the atmosphere is a little old but the building has a lot of character. The walls have pictures of days gone by around the Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna area. The staff was friendly and attentive.

Fish special that smelled bad inedible ...they said it was due to the "new chef" took 5 bucks off the bill the owner/manager peeked around the corner but never came to the table. Upon entering the restaurant it smells like raw sewage......the restrooms are right by the front door....DISGUSTING smell..this is the 3rd time we have tried this place...will never go back and will spread the word to our friends in Deland not to waste their time or money........the management just does not do a good job or care.
