The Seagate Hotel & Spa
Ranked #7 of 15 Hotels in Delray Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 August 2014

We had wanted to stay at the Seagate for a number of years and finally got the opportunity this past weekend. We lucked into a weekend with beautiful, warm weather and sunny skies. The hotel is well-located on Atlantic within easy walking distance of a number of resturants and shops. The hotel offers free rides within three miles of the hotel, although other than to the beach club we decided to walk.

Valet parking was convenient and relatively quick ($20 per day). Check-in went smoothly and the ataff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was ready prior to the hotel's check-in time. The room was very spacious, had a very comfortable bed, and ample closet and drawer space for our short stay. The large window let plenty of bright sunshine into our west-facing room. The bathroom was also large with a jetted tub and full shower, along with a full collection of amenities. It was easy to control the temperature in the room. And, the turn down service was unexpected and quite lovely.

We used the hotel trolley and their car service to go to the nearby Seagate beach club. On each of our three days, there was confusion and a lack of information about whether the trolley would or would not be running on a set schedule, what time it would start and/or end, or whether we should request the private car transfer. One day, we were told the trolley would run every half hour through 4 PM between the hotel and the beach club. We ended up waiting in the hot sun for 25 minutes to return to the hotel before we were told that they stopped the trolley due to low occupancy and we should have just called for the car. There was no one at the beach club who was aware of this. For a class operation, this lack of coordination, knowledge and information was very frustrating. It would be easy for the Seagate to put a sign at the beach club stating the hotel trolley schedule for the day on one side, and "See front desk to call for the car" on the other. Then beach club hotel guests would know exactly what to expect.

The staff at the beach club were generally helpful and courteous. Chairs, umbrellas and towels are included. Ice water is brought to the chair unpon arrival and then on request during the day. One could order drinks from the beach club bar, and although it was sometimes difficult to get the attention of a server at our chair, they generally did a good job.

It was a bit disconcerting on two of the three days we spent at the beach that nearby beachgoers were playing music. On one day, a group of three were smoking pot. This is not something we expected. We did find that the beach staff seemed to direct more attention to the locals who belong to the club than to the hotel visitors. We guess though, with the fees and dues they pay, members are entitled to good service. We did find the pool at the beach to be basically unusable due to the great number of children and families there, and the balls flying all over the place. The kids and parents seemed to be having a great time but the area wasn't someplace adult couples could find relaxation. We did not make use of it but we suspect the pool at the hotel would be quieter and more conducive to adults.

The food at the hotel restaurant and at the beach club was quite good and the prices were not out-of-line for a top notch hotel. Both seem to be well-run and the hotel restaurant was hopping at night. We skipped dining there on Saturday night, although we had planned to, as the live music was so loud as to make conversation quite difficult.

It did seem odd that internet service was $9.95 per day and was not nicluded in the $30 per day resort fee. The front desk was quite nice to suggest we join the iprefer program, through which we would get internet for free. We did so, and it worked out great. Unlike many hotels, wireless in the room was speedy and easy to use.

Overall, the Seagate presents guests with a relaxed, upscale approach to hospitality. Even with the few negatives we experienced, we would recommend this hotel to those looking for a stay in a great location near the beach and in a great town with a lively resturant/shop scene. We definitely prefer Delray Beach to the more chaotic towns further south. For a great getaway, we would stay at the Seagate again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing south would probably be more quiet than those on the north side right on Atlantic Avenu...

I was lucky enough to have received a facial the other day by a professional, calming, knowledgeable and skilled esthetician. The spa is gorgeous and the treatment rooms are beyond relaxing. I wanted to stay for a massage! The staff was lovely and I was offered some amazing products that were used for my facial and was treated to make-up application by Yves Saint Laurent artists who were on hand with mimosas, coffee, fruit and muffins. Relaxing by their tranquil pool was the cherry on top. I think I am moving into The Seagate. Not only is the hotel the only place where our company executives will stay when in town, but I have urged family and friends to stay there as well. They are now lifelong fans. One family member ignored their FREE nights for Marriott across the street in favor of a great rate at The Seagate. It is THAT wonderful. It does not hurt to have access to Seagate Beach Club on the beach, or the PGA approved golf course at Seagate Country Club. I love this property and it is Delray's best, by far.

Spent 3 nights; 14-17 Aug. Front desk staff has a serious attitude no emotional intelligence... "Can't do" attitude. The front desk staff seemed unhappy and not willing to assist, not trained with any hospitality skills. Every attempt to call front desk, housekeeping & room service the phone rang without any pick up, the calls then default back to front desk who respond by saying " you need to call room service or housekeeping , rather than asking how can we assist, again always attitude, very condescending.

Massage therapist at spa totally alarmed my wife. His inappropriate comment regarding a pectoral muscle knot caused great anxiety ruining our family celebration.

The only positives were the outstanding service at the Atlantic Grille. Especially Mark and his staff were excellent. Our server Kristen was outstanding!

I'm here right now for business and simply love Delray Beach downtown and The Seagate. This is a very cute town that also seems a bit flashy and the people have some money. Lovely cars everywhere.

I checked into The Seagate in early evening and first impression left something to be desired. There was no hotel representative out to greet or park the car for a while, which soured my welcome. I also really confused the front desk when I asked for my room service charges later that evening to go ahead and be put on a separate folio. I just know I will need to work that one out in the morning. First impressions aside, the staff is very nice. The valet that wound up helping me was very nice and even greeted me when leaving the gym this evening.

The lobby here is wonderful and sets the tone for your stay. Lots of marble, fresh flowers and a huge aquarium are just some of the touches. You walk into your room and the finishes are just tops all around. The bathrooms are some of the best I've seen, beds are impressive, snack and mini bar selection rules and there were even fresh flowers in the room.

Why four stars you ask? The first impression bothered me, their spa facilities shut down at 8PM, so no post workout steam room or shower and the chicken on my room service Caesar salad was not something natural. You can't serve five star shrimp cocktail with a fast-food level salad!

Would I return, of course. His place has a special quality about it and worthy of its high reviews.

I have to agree with the reviewer who was critical of the front desk. The reception was borderline rude, as was the person attending the gift shop when we stopped in. Fortunately, the experience in the cafe was pleasant.

We stayed at the Seagate for 3 nights and we couldn't be any happier we choose this great hotel. The front desk, beach club, drivers and housekeeping staff were some of the best we have ever encountered. The hotel and beach club were beautiful, clean and a great time. Near many bars and restaurants on Atlantic Ave, can either walk or take the house escalade. Just a great place and will definitely be coming back!!

We stayed at the Seagate for our honeymoon and we loved it there. It was like a home away from home. They upgraded up to a suite which was perfect and sent up a bottle of wine, they were always helpful and friendly, going out of their way to assist us. Customer service in the US put's the UK's ''service'' to shame. The facilities on site and at the beach club were excellent and the location is so convenient for the beach and.shops, bars and restaurants but not so near that you are in the thick of it. We have absolutely no complaints and would love to go back one day.

Room Tip: treat yourself to an upgrade as it's well worth it.
