“Very Special”

It was a pleasant South Florida evening so we decided to dine outside on the charming patio. The atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried, our server was friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing, but the food was definitely the star of the show. Everything came out timely and fresh, with the first bite we can taste the care and attention paid to the preparation of the dishes.
We took a look at the interior and found it lovely with uplifting colors. My friend has a special event coming up and she thought this place would be perfect for a private party.
Can't wait to return with friends

“Not worth the high prices”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

My wife and I ate once at Patio Delray and will not go back. The patio is very charming and inviting, but we were eaten alive by flying critters. Why this issue is not addressed by the owners is a mystery. The food was good, but not great, and certainly not worth the price.

“Disappointing Dinner, but Good Plate Presentation”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

A group of us had a birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. We had reservations for six pm and the restaurant was not crowded when we arrived. We were seated on the patio with one other couple near the water fountain. The table had cloth napkins with plastic placemats on a metal table. Chairs had nice cushions and "rocked". Inside the tables had linen table cloths. For an appetizer I had the figs with stuffed cheese. It was on a long rectangular plate with sauce accents. My wife had a salad. The other couple had a salad and a bowel of mussels. My main course was one of the evening specials - tile fish with skin on a bed of rice and quiona topped with a reduction sauce. The fish was warm to the touch and most likely was cooling off on the serving line while waiting for the other dishes to be ready versus coming directly from the cooking pan. I could only eat 25% of it before stopping as it was cold not even midway thru the main course. Referencing this to the waitress was to no avail. My wife had the braised short ribs on mashed potatoes. Her food was cooked to the correct temperature. The other couple had a similar meal of beef ribs and the miniature crab cakes. The crab cakes were also on a long rectangular plate with sauce accents, but the eight crab cakes were smaller than the diameter of a quarter. We elected not to partake of the dessert menu. The plating of the food was good and pleasing to the eyes. We had wine with the dinner. Glass of house wine was $8.75 and the recommended house merlot was a $78.00 bottle.

“Perfect for Quiet Dining”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Our dinners, Fisherman's Stew and Crab Cakes, were perfectly prepared. The Stew was more than ample and shared by all. The waiter was attentive but not intrusive. We could not resist dessert, a croissant bread pudding It was delicious. As one reviewer wrote, this restaurant is an oasis. Dining inside or outdoors here is an escape.

“Ambience - Outstanding; Food and Service - not so great.”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

Restaurants in Delray tend to be crowded, noisy and overpriced. Patio Delray is in a strip mall about a mile away from the crowds of Atlantic Avenue, with outdoor dining in a quiet urban oasis, and seems to be patronized by locals. The ambience alone almost makes dining here an exceptional experience.

Almost. Unfortunately, the night we visited the food was below average, service was inadequate, and the wine list was not only severely limited but also terribly overpriced. There were two "fresh" seafood items on the menu: tuna from Peru (fresh?), and local Mahi Mahi that tasted a few days old and was cooked until tough and dry. The caprese with fresh mozzarella was drowned in a very garlicky pesto. Short ribs were tasty. Water glasses were never refilled during a 2 hour dinner. All this for about $50 per person, which included one bottle of wine (for 4 people) and no desert.

If you need a break from the tourist crowd, or value ambience over food, visit the Patio Delray. Otherwise, you may be able to find a better value.
