There's nothing particularly plush about the Colony, but it's got a warm, comfortable feeling. The kind of place where complete strangers strike up a conversation over drinks at the lobby bar. The single elevator requires a staffer to operate it, or you can take the stairs. The hotel bears more than a passing resemblance to the Overlook (from the movie version of "The Shining," but it's a warmer version of it, and doesn't appear haunted. The best way I can describe the place is funky old Florida. It's an old hotel, but shows no visible signs of decay, such is the care the staff takes to maintain it. Just off the lobby outside there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel refers to itself as The Colony Hotel and Cabana Club. That's because hotel guests can enjoy free privileges during their stay at the Colony Cabana Club down the road a mile or so from the hotel. The Cabana Club is similarly an old Florida relic, but beautifully maintained. It has a pool and private beach area along the Atlantic. It's quiet and tranquil, away from the unwashed masses down along the shore.

We traveled from PA to the Delray Beach area for a long weekend to celebrate a family birthday and to enjoy the beach. The Colony was recommended by someone who lives in Delray Beach. We were so pleased with the hotel and the beach club that we had to write. For reference, we are a middle-aged couple who love the beach, fine old things, outdoor living, live music, dancing and nightlife! This hotel was clean, bright and an unexpected treasure so close to the center of all the downtown activity! The staff (at every level) was friendly, professional and enthusiastic to help. The breakfasts were delicious, and we were thrilled with the variety and selection. We felt the air conditioning unit in our room worked great to muffle any street noise. The Cabana Club was also a great surprise as we were planning to use the public beach. We had clear, calm seas during our three-day stay, so the swimming was great, and this facility was as clean and well-staffed as the hotel. We really found nothing for which to complain as this hotel was a perfect fit for our needs and personal tastes. If we had one request (not a complaint--just a suggestion), it would be to have a small refrigerator in our room. Our stay was perfection. And we can't wait to return!

We dont' live far from the hotel and just wanted a night away for our anniversary. We have seen this hotel many times in going to Delray so we decided to stay here. The hotel is very quaint. The room was adorable and a nice change from the corporate chain looking hotels. The bed was too die for.......the most comfortable bed and pillows we've ever slept on....no kidding!!! The best!!! Downside was 2 things.....the lobby is open air and very, very hot in the summer. They really need to air condition it....it is South Florida afterall. The breakfast was awful and especially having it in a hot lobby.....we opted to walk a block to the Green Owl and get a great breakfast in a local breakfast spot. Great location in Delray Beach which is always a hopping place on the weekends. Very nice!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in April and fell in love. We love historic buildings and this one definetely takes you back in time. The best part of this hotel is the beach club which provides towels and beach chairs free of charge. They also have an area that you can grab some lunch and drinks which were fabulous! If you ever travel to Delary Beach you know that chair rentals can run you about $50.00 for 2 chairs and 2 umbrellas. There is also ample free parking at the beach club and at the hotel. The parking on Atlantic is non existant so this perk is great! The hotel is in the middle of all the action which is wonderful. The free breakfast is good but could be a little better as there is not much seating or selection, but its definetely convenient. I would definetely stay again!

I've never felt the need to write a review before, but an exceptional stay at the Colony Hotel and Cabana Club has changed that.
Delray is a quiet town which has everything. Perfect for a getaway.
The Colony made our visit perfect.
At the top of my list is the staff. I've stayed in many hotels over the years, and the staff at the Colony stands out. Friendly, attentive, efficient.
The hotel has great atmosphere and charm. Very comfortable. Well situated.
The Cabana Club's lunch, pool, and beach were an added plus.
We would also recommend the Sandoway House Nature Center a few minutes away, hosted by a terrific guide named Valentine.
We will be back. We have started telling our friends.
