“should not be here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2013

Do not waste your money to stay at Jetty East or any where else on Holiday Isle. This area was built on what was a nature preserve. Big money came in and put buildings on coastal wetlands. Now the beach in washing away and the homes on what is left of the beach will flood with high surf. Come to Destin, but stay away from Jetty East.

“Water was dirty and smelled really bad!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2013

We met up to flyboard at the jetties and the water was a nasty, oily brown! It wasn't pleasant to get in at all! I recommend calling ahead to see what the water is like before I went there.

“Best beach in Florida!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2013

We've been frequent visitors to Jetty East Condominiums over many years, and have never seen the beach look better. Holiday Isle has been battered by multiple hurricanes, losing large portions of its beach, but it is very wide, very white and despite a lot of people flocking there is spacious and not crowded three of four rows deep like some other beaches down the way. Great pool and pavillion for grilling.

“First time ever seeing BROWN water at the jetties/Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2013

Our one summer vacation was for the week of July 13th and the beaches were nothing but brown water: run off from the clay in the rivers up stream due to heavy rains (or so we were told) created a situation where not only the water became dark brown (kids called it "kool-aide water"), but also meant that fresh water was all around instead of salt water at the beaches. Fortunately by the third day I awoke at 6AM and went out to the balcony (beachfront at the Jetties Beach) to drink coffee and to my surprise saw CLEAR water!! I quickly put on my suit and jumped in the water and had a blast snorkeling for four hours (kids too, hubby still asleep). However by 10AM when the tide was going out came a wave of DARK water which took over all of the beaches within an hour. Each day the tide went out about 45 minutes later, so we did have longer and longer time in the clear water, but if you don't know to get up early you either won't catch it and/or not even enough it's happening (i.e. clear water in the early mornings after the tide has come in the entire night and pushed back to fresh water up into the bay area). It's apparently when the tide is going out that drags the fresh water (filled with clay) back into the mouth of the Bay and out to the main beach areas. After visiting for a few times over ten years, this was the FIRST time we'd ever experienced brown water in Destin, we were shocked and disappointed but glad to have McGuire's Pub for AWESOME FOOD! And lots of other things in the area to entertain us during our disappointment with the beaches. We'll be back, but in the future I will watch to make sure that NO HEAVY rains are occurring in the area before we return again. To show the difference I'm attaching a photo from LAST YEAR (clear water) and THIS YEAR the brown water when it CLEARED up in the morning. Also the last photo is the dark water taken as a distance from our balcony condo we rented.

“A lot has changed here”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2013

First of all, this is a condo not an attraction. I have been staying here for about 10 years and always had a wonderful time...until the first week of July 2013. I understand the beach restoration but don't expect the beautiful view from the gazebo anymore because the sand is piled up around it too high to see anything. Also, we went down to cook dinner and there was no where to sit. Not because there were too many people there eating, but because someone thought it would be a great idea to set up karaoke there and play music so loud that we literally could not talk to each other at all. There were no chairs to sit down because the karaoke people had them. We ate out the rest of the time we were there. We came from Illinois, North Carolina, and Alabama to spend time together and have a great time, but we were very disappointed this time. There was no one patrolling the property or beach for underage drinkers (there were plenty of them) and it seemed to take the "peaceful" right out of the usual feeling of staying here. New sand is full of sharp shells, no more barefoot on the beach.
