My family and I have stayed at Hidden Dunes and will be returning again this year. Great property! If you stay in the cottages, you have easy access to several pools on property and are within a 3 minute walk (or less) to the beach. The cottages are just two stories tall so it's great for small children. The cottage we stay in has a screened back porch which is great at night or early mornings. It's just an overall great location, in decent proximity to a grocery store, mall, and the beach. Perfect for any family on vacation.

Hidden Dunes is east of the Destin congestion, just past the Silver Sands Factory Stores mall and almost next door to the Sandestin Resort. It is secluded, but everything you could want is within very easy access - shopping, groceries, movies, golf, restaurants, night life, etc. Tennis is onsite with well-maintained clay courts. The property is beautifully landscaped and maintained.

There are three options for accommodations: Gulfside, a high-rise on the beach; Beach Villas, spacious 3 and 4 bedroom units near either the villa pool or the property's beautiful lake; or Beach Cottages, with lush landscaping, nearer the tennis courts and a huge pool, many located on lovely water feature pools and fountains.

We have stayed in two different Gulfside units and two different Beach Villas. In a previous review, I noted it is important to choose the unit wisely. That remains true. 702 Gulfside (2/2) was dated (Oct 2012); 906 Gulfside (3/3) was not updated, but nicely maintained, with only minor quirks (March 2013); Beach Villa 24 (3/3) is a ground floor unit on the pool, needs a bit of freshening but very convenient, and kitchen supplies were minimal (May 2013); and Beach Villa 45 (4/4), is a bright, airy second floor end unit perfectly situated between the busy pool and lake, with a view of the lake (May 2013). Clearly, we are hooked on Hidden Dunes. Unit 45 wins our prize for the best unit we stayed in - convenient, beautiful location; nicely decorated with comfortable furniture and lots of flat screens; well-maintained; well-stocked kitchen; etc.

After many years thinking a high-rise on the beach was the ONLY way to spend time at the beach, we have been convinced that a larger, more comfortable place with parking right outside your door and a pleasant, short walk to the beach beats the stark, cramped high-rise experience hands down.

Room Tip: Look carefully at the pictures of the units, and maybe a map of the property, to choose your perfect...

We stayed 5 nights in the Condo #184. It was a 2 bedroom apartment with a spacious living area. Very nice! The master room had a king bed - super comfy - and an ensuite bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. It was a huge room. The second bedroom was a queen bed with another bathroom just outside the room. There was a washing machine and dryer. The kitchen was well-equipped, although we could not find any matches for the outside communal grill. In the living area, there was a large couch and a dining room table for 4 tables. There was also an outdoor covered area (with bug netting) and a table with 4 chairs. We were given dishwashing liquid and dishwasher detergent, and washing machine powder.
The beach, which was about 2 minutes walk away, was spectacular. White sand and clear water.
We used 2 different pools - both of which were nice.
This was a good place to stay - we had a great time.
Only negatives: we could hear the people in the condo above us making noise.

We rented Hidden Dunes # 180 in the cottages. Nicely decorated, spacious unit with 2bed, 2 bath and patio. Buyer Beware however. All week we listened to the renters upstairs / heavy footfalls that shook the rafters. It was so annoying that I would never rent another ground floor unit , EVER!

Also, this unit did not come with umbrella/beach chairs so we had to pay a small fortune daily, $30 per setup cash! Our friends who rented in Gulfside had free chairs! In addition, I would have expected salt/pepper, dishwasher soap (especially when they expect dishes to b washed on your final day), laundry soap and bar soap to be included in unit.

On our final day, we discovered there are pools behind the unit. There are walking paths and beautiful new pools w waterfalls. No one told us about any of these amenities at Resorts Realty!!!!

Overall, good value for the money. Not the most upscale place I have ever stayed but decent. Also, security was good here which kept the riffraff out!

Places to go for dinner include AJs which is a busy place on the waterfront w entertainment and things for kids to do.

Loved that the outlet mall and Starbucks !were in walking distance

Both the guests and the tennis staff at Hidden Dunes are passionate about tennis! The staff in the pro shop are especially helpful in setting up matches if you need a game and the instructional competence is high. That said, this is a resort that definitely caters to the "senior" crowd. Not much singles play and the average age of the players is probably 70. Just keep that in mind if you don't fit that demographic.

Room Tip: I did not stay at this resort, only came here to participate in the tennis program.

Go to Hidden Dunes! It is a beautiful community close to lots of activities, shopping and dining, but out of the congestion of central Destin. In addition to the Gulf of Mexico and tennis courts, there are a lake and an extensive water feature, as well as beautifully landscaped and maintained grounds. Gulfside is a highrise right on the beach; beach villas are one step back from the beach; and cottages a little farther away.

Just look carefully at the details and pictures of the unit you plan to book. Several different companies manage properties in the resort. They have different standards, and the quality of the units varies greatly. Some have been updated, and some are in need of serious attention. We stayed in Gulfside 1102 - apparently Resort Quest does not require much. The whole unit is "dated" and "worn" - cabinets/counters, floors, walls. Bed linens were the lowest thread count I've ever seen; toilet function needed to be addressed; tv's were from the last century (and we had to connect the one in the living room to cable). We learned that there are great units, too. They would be well worth the extra dollars. The negatives below pertain only to the unit we stayed in.

Destin has long been a vacation destination for my family, and we've stayed in many great places. Hidden Dunes really delivered. The community was lovely and inclusive without being overwhelming or too touristy. We had fantastic accommodations looking right at the beach, which was, of course, pure white sand. They're tennis facility was very well-maintained and manicured. I had the benefit of hitting with two of their pros, Phil and Mikey. I've worked with many tennis pros over the course of my life, and they were the most involved and interested in making sure I got maximum attention and instruction for the time I was with them. If I had a complaint, it's that they only offered green clay courts. I'm a partial to hard courts, but that's really a personal preference more then a critique.
