Owner description: The Heart of the World's Luckiest Fishing Village - The Destin Harbor Boardwalk is Destin's marquis community project that has been 15+ years in the making. The first phase of The Destin Harbor Boardwalk was completed in the Spring of 2012 and provides public access to over one-half mile of the northern edge of Destin Harbor in Destin, Florida from Harborwalk Village east behind AJ's, Galati Yachts, and Fisherman's Wharf and stopping at the Yacht Club. Construction on Phase I commenced in January 2012 and was completed in May 2012.

Harborwalk is exciting and fun for all ages! There's shopping, dining, nightlife, gorgeous views, people watching and more! Try to come during the Tuesday night Mardi Gras parade! Not only are there shops and restaurants, but the streets are filled with artists selling their wares, face painters, airbrush tattoo, balloon artists, jewelry, food trucks, souvenirs and fun activities like a zip line. I even got a photo with a parrot on my head and arms from a man who rescues them; the proceeds of the photos go toward exotic bird conservation. Where else can you do that?

Harborwalk is a great meeting up place for the vacationers who come back every year. This is why people love Destin. Many folks are wearing their Destin shirts and hats. Everyone is happy and having fun. We love and enjoy the experience that Harborwalk brings.

We spent the evening walking down the river walk visiting several of the shop and looking at the boats. They had a band playing that we stomped and listened to.

Destin Haborwalk used to be an excellent location for local artists. There was an art co-op in the building which is now the monstrous Emerald Grand, street artists (like Sawyer) with jewelry, paintings and pottery. Today the area is like any other boardwalk with cheap beach stuff. That being said, there are still a couple of artists squirrled away in small booths near the water who have nice work. The view of the inlet has been compromised with the creation of a large, man-made sand dune. No longer can people take their boats across the inlet to a small beach. The dune is supposed to help the Walk area during hurricanes. Parking for the Walk now cost $10, and you get to drive around and around praying for a spot to open up. My advice is to skip outside lots and head directly to the parking garage. The good things about Harborwalk are the selection of restaurants along the water, and the choice of charter boats to take you out to the Gulf.
