Just returned from Destin on 8/27 after a weeks stay at the Fairfield at Majestic Sun.
If you have never been to Destin before, you will not notice much difference, however, if you have been there you will see that ALOT of the beach is gone and there is much debris on the beach that is left. There was a 15-20 foot steep drop off from 98 down to the beach and no walkway or stairs for easier access. Also, the lake behind the Majestic Sun had a very bad odor. Any breeze or wind out of the west would push the smell directly on the Fairfield.
Enough of the bad things the Fairfield cant do much about. The unit was beautiful and had a great view of the Gulf. The staff was always friendly and there was many activities you could participate in on a daily basis.
Destin is definietly a community that hasnt grown well. The exploding development has left the place without its small fishing villiage feel. I really miss that about Destin. Also, if the city doesnt do something about beach erosion, I can definetly see a large drop off in tourism. If the city doesnt take better care of their beach, all the high-rises going up will not come close to being full.
In all, I would give the Fairfield and above average to excellent and the city of Destin itself, including their beaches an OK, but definetly some problems.
