“5B Wonderful”
Reviewed 12 May 2012

This was our second trip Destin. First time we stayed in a hotel. This time we decided to try out the Nantucket Cottages. We stayed in 5B (downstairs unit). We were very impressed with our unit and the price of the stay. Our bed was very comfortable, and the unit was cleaned. The only con that I could point out is the floors are thin so you hear the people upstairs walking around and moving things.

We also had family that stayed in cottage 3, our unit was a lot nicer than theirs. In the bedroom we had a 32 inch tv and they had a 13 inch. Their bed was like sleeping on the box spring and ours was plush.

We would choose staying at the cottages again over a hotel.

Room Tip: Cottage 5B faces toward the beach, but there is no beach view. Ground floors can hear every movement...

We usually stay in traditional hotels, but were in Destin a few times this spring and stayed in unit 11A (upstairs) at Nantucket Cottages. This unit and the one below it (we peeked in 11B while they were cleaning) were apparently completely remodeled very recently. All the furniture is new, new mattresses, 2 wall TV's (Bedroom and Living Room) - living room TV was huge. There were just 2 of us, but it would sleep 4 to 6 people. There is a separate bedroom, and then bunk beds in an alcove, and then the sofa pulls out into a bed. Kitchen is fully stocked and has a new fridge, and all new kitchen appliances. Microwave was small, but suited us fine. We cooked and had everything we needed. You can tell the paint is new, bath fixtures, light fixtures, etc. are all new - even new doorknobs! I read some other reviews here and was hesitant, but ResortQuest told us that different condos are owned by different people, so you need to look on their site to see the pictures before you book. The check in was very easy and convenient. This unit is close to the pool, and also close to the parking lot, and about a 1 minute walk over to the beach across the street. It is also close to a hotel with a nice downstairs restaurant and bar (I think it's called 790) for a great place for happy hour. Camille's nearby has AWESOME food and is very convenient. Destin Commons is a short drive or a long walk. This area is very pedestrian friendly. For quality, location, and especially price - we will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We like this unit (11A) but check the ResortQuest website to see pictures of the units before you bo...

Just returned from a stay in Unit 16B.
The pros are quick check in, proximity to beach and well equipped kitchen.
The cons are cleanliness and maintenance. The unit needs to be updated but it also needs general maintenance. The cleaning also needed to be better. Mold and mildew in the shower, I had to clean it before it could be used. The AC vents needed to be cleaned from dust that was almost an inch thick.( there where no response to calls made for maintenance or cleaning).
There is very limited drawers for clothes (2 large/2 small drawers in the bedroom) so be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Also bring a blow dryer if you use one because they aren't provided.
If you enjoy eating with your group at a table you won't be able to in this unit. Table with 3 chairs, high top with 2.
If you need to do laundry bring change and laundry products. Laundry room adjacent to pool area.
Pool small so if property is full may not be able to use.
Don't waste your money on internet connection. Very slow

Absolutely Awful! There is not enough letters in the alphabet to describe our experience. Bugs--big bugs, hole in the shower floor, curtains were beige color but had not been cleaned and were black. We were afraid to sleep there. This unit should be condemned.

Room Tip: Don't stay THERE!

Staying at Nantucket was absolutely fantastic! The condo was very nice! We stayed in 12b. The parking was right next to it and there were no stairs to go up. We were only a few short steps from the pool and right across the street from the beach. There is no view of the beach, but the beautiful scenery made up for it. It is a quaint little community. The people at ResortQuest were beyond helpful! We arrived early (we traveled 8 hours) and thought we couldn't check in. We stopped in the office just so we knew where we had to come back to check in and to use the facilities and the desk gentleman stopped us and asked if we were guests. We explained that we were early and he said no problem and checked us right in! Also, I had to switch the days of our travel at the last minute and they had absolutely no problem with it! Would highly recommend!!!

I'll start this review by noting that my husband and I lived in Destin for about 2 years, on Holiday Isle. We are familiar with the area, and in fact, always thought these rentals were adorable (from the outside) when we used to live in Destin.

We were excited to find this rental online for a great rate over Labor Day weekend. Well, the deal turned out to be too good to be true. The unit we were in - 12A - was run-down, outdated and dirty. Getting into the unit was a challenge. The entry door to the two units constantly got stuck because of the humidity. I often couldn't force it open and had to have my husband kick it open.

Then, once inside, the carpet on the steps was stained and dirty. There were two bunk beds at the top of the stairs. One of them had paint/veneer chipped off if it. The air return vent above the top bunk was absolutely disgusting. I don't think it had been cleaned in several years. The amount of dust hanging off of it almost made me gag.

The kitchen/living room area wasn't much better. The couch has stains all over it and the throw pillows were matted down from use and were pretty grimy. The kitchen cabinets had been sponge painted with a palm tree design (so 1980s), and again, the paint/veneer was chipping off the cabinets. There was a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and blender, but no dishwasher. We didn't use the stove, but did use the toaster one morning. It couldn't even get hot enough to heat up a toaster pastry. Also, the glasses and dinnerware were mismatched. You'd be lucky to have enough pieces to serve 4 people.

On to the bedroom. This unit had a full bed. The dust ruffle was ripped. The coverlet was thin and grimy. The pillows had no loft. Our first night's sleep was awful. I called the ResortQuest office the next day and asked them to give us new pillows, which they did. If you have stuff you need to hang up, bring your own hangers. There was only one in the storage unit.

The bathroom had a stand-up shower, but no tub. Also, there wasn't enough storage space in the shower to accommodate shower items for 2 adults, unless you wanted your stuff sitting on the shower floor. The toilet paper holder was broken; a real pain in the rear when your roll of toilet paper gets knocked off in the middle of the night and goes rolling across the floor! There was no soap dish on the sink, so when you set the hand soap down, it was virtually glued to the counter top. The mirror had a wooden/particle board ledge which was peeling because of all of the wet items that had been placed on it.

Our unit had a balcony with white plastic patio furniture. The furniture was so grimy, though, that we couldn't bring ourselves to even sit in it. There was a vinyl canopy above the unit that hadn't been cleaned in years. It was covered on the underside in mildew and grime.

The pluses for this unit is that it's very close to public beach access. About a 2-3 minute walk. It's also just down the street from Destin Commons, the area shopping mall. The pool on the facility was small, but decent. The pool furniture was a bit ratty, but not nearly as bad as what was on the balcony of our unit.

It looked like some of the other units in this complex were nicer than ours. We might check those out another time, but will definitely not stay in unit 12A again or recommend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: We booked our trip through a travel site and weren't able to choose the unit. You can book direc...

This is our first trip to Destin. We traveled with our 3 children. The cottage was very cozy and private. The beach was just right across the street; kitchenette with cookware and utensils were available which helped tremendously; ocean view from living space and balcony was stunning; quiet and peaceful complex; sufficient parking; laundry room by the pool- excellent pricing too!
