There are two trails, one through trees and the pelician trail that follows along the beach. Allow at least an hour an a half and take plenty of water! If you like turtles, there are plenty crawling around everywhere munching on the blades of grass. There are also plenty of ospreys on next and others flying around. If you are lucky, you might see one get a fish! There are also eagles.

Beach was extremely rocky. Sand was not soft and was filled with everything from trash, cigarette butts and shells. No bathroom facilities that I could find. And it cost $8 to get in. I coukd not find what all the hype was about. Very disappointed.

This is my wife's favorite beach to take a walk. There are a number of beach areas. The south beach is for playing in the sand and splashing in the surf. There is a concession area and a couple of beach houses to change and clean up in. The north beach area has a beach house, but no concession area. And if you want to get away from the rocky beach area you need to walk a long ways. This area is better for shelling and on any given day you can find sand dollars, olive shells, etc., especially at low tide.

For those into nature you can walk the osprey trail and in the spring be delighted by numerous nesting ospreys and also a couple of bald eagles. There is a nature center where you can learn about the island and its wildlife. Beware that the signs warning of rattlesnakes on the island are really true. We encountered a 4 to 5 foot rattlesnake crossing one of the paths during a hike.

This is a pretty nice beach. I do recommend water shoes, as there are a lot of rocks and barnacles for the first 10 to 20 feet by the shore. There are some nice shells to be found in the rocks, and then past that is a shallow sandy area where you can relax for hours.
This is a great, calm beach to take small children to, my 5 year old negotiates the waves like a pro here because they are not too high.
I would not advise wakeboarding here, since the shore is so rocky, you will shred a board or a foot or a knee.
