So many times in towns across the country, an ice cream (or gelato, custard, etc.) shop is the number one rated or at least in the top three Trip advisor restaurants. I've wondered how the other restaurants, with their well-trained waitstaff, fine chefs, and creative menus feel about being bested by a shop that basically scoops their product out of a container and plops it into a cup or cone and hands it to their customers. But people love ice cream, especially when it's homemade and comes in a wide variety of interesting flavors. Such is the case with Strachan's, a nice little shop with a good downtown location. My wife and I both got the smallest (kiddie) sized servings of coconut and chocolate mint. Both tasted fine but they don't come cheap; the small scoops ran us almost 8 dollars. But this isn't about getting a bargain; it's about relaxing in one of the outside tables or benches with your frozen treat while taking in the sights and sounds and people of Dunedin. That's worth a few extra bucks.

Best ice cream anywhere. Eat in or pack it up and take home with one of their frozen Key Lime Pie on a stick, brownie, or some of the best Carrot Cake ever!

Holiday weekend, driving up the coast, decided to stop for some ice cream. Read some of the reviews first, called to be sure they were open! They were and they were busy! Parking (free) in Dunedin is aplenty but sometimes you have to search for it. there were some open spots in the lot right outside Strachan's back door and shaded parking in bank lot behind that. Place was busy, had to stand in line..they had two going, three or four girls taking/filling orders. sampled the mango sorbet, salted caramel (haagen dazs better), key lime. went w/the mango sorbet (very icy/slushy good flavor and cool/refreshing/not heavy on a hot day) in a big waffle cone. others in group got strawberry, peanut butter cookie dough, mint choc. chip-all in big waffle cones, not dipped. 4 cones came to $18 and change. tip jars ready to gather your change. :) cash only! was ok/good ice cream but a nice part of the Dunedin experience. we wandered a few shops afterwards. would go back. great location on the corner w/shaded seating outside. To go window wasn't open.

Since we had eaten dinner only an hour before - got the kiddie size cone which was plenty. I understand from friends that a regular cone is huge & the prices were good.
The quality is good but not outstanding

We were only in Dunedin for two nights and we ate ice cream at Strachan's twice. What does that tell you? It is addicting. Yes, it's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. We got the kiddie size, which was more than enough and easier on the wallet.
