“Sportsman's Lodge”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

Needed last minute reservation (less than 24 hours notice) and though my unit preference could not be accommodated, a room was made available that would meet my minimum requirements! The Lodge is a local "legend" that has been in business for many years. There will be no "stars" given for this place by a veteran traveler. The charm is the quaintness, the hospitality, the fact that it is on the river and that the sunrise and sunset is spectacular. I would stay again!

Room Tip: Try to get one that has a view of the river. There are single cabins and motel style rooms. Talk t...

The rooms were large and clean with comfortable beds. The views of the river were great. The area was a bit strange. There seemed to be some permanent residents in the area and an adjoining campground that was in the midst of repairs due to a past storm. There were absolutely beautiful peacocks roaming the area. They were a bit noisy which was not a problem during the day but in the morning it may get old after a few days (or maybe you would just get used to them). We were there for only one night so no problem. Would go back. Oh - the prices were great!!!!

We have stayed here several times through the years because it was quiet and simple...Love the peacocks..This week I had reservations for myself and my daughter,,,Wen we arrived we were told she had given our room to someone else because they had a "similar" name. The place was crowded and looked a mess, not like it used to. Anyways, We ended up driving to another town and paying way too much for a room. I will not make the same mistake twice and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: Choose another town and place.

The bed spreads looked like they were bought from Grandma's estate sale but the beds slept great! Like Grandma's house I felt 100% safe traveling alone.
The owners are wonderful, interesting people made paying up a real pleasure. There was a lot of wild life around the grounds. Wild life peacocks, daring squirrels, and sea birds! The location is a bit off the main road but, the sunsets are unbelievable. Sit on the deck with your favorite cold beverage & enjoy!
I stayed at 4 different places in Apalachacola & Carrabelle. This one is by far my favorite. The bathroom was completely updated and tiled. The room was huge! 2 beds with 2 dressers and 'fridge and microwave with a small table. No WiFI but the best TV reception of any of the places I stayed including the most expensive one! Very clean. Wall unit controls the room temp to perfection.

we have been enjoying this place for years. rooms are $65.00 and up. people meet at the gazebo in the mornings to drink freshly brewed coffee, watch the peacocks and tell fishing stories. we stay about 8 to 10 weekends between April and November. it's home away from home. Eastpoint is 15 minutes away from St. George Island, soft white sand beaches with great surf fishing. Seafood dining is great in Eastpoint or you can drive 10 minutes into Apalachicola and wander the streets of this old Florida fishing port, nice shops and good seafood dining. This area is a fishing destination not a tourist trap. The people in this area are friendly and sociable.

If you do not enjoy nature and all that comes with it, then this place is not for you. Imagine a cabin surrounded by squirrels, peacocks and palm trees, a dock for fishing day or night, and a quaint little city that has hardly nothing to offer except a fishing vacation for a lifetime. I would have to say an upgrade to the rooms would not hurt but you shouldn't be in your room long enough anyway if you are in St. George Island. You should be fishing or laying out at the beautiful beach across the bridge.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the bay. There is a cabin that is right beside the peacock cage with lights roped...

We spent four days at the Sportsman's Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Housekeeper was great -- friendly and efficient. Miss Edda is so friendly and helpful it feels like you are visiting friends. Peacocks were an added "attraction". Great price and a lovely view from the second floor room. If you want fancy accommodations keep going. If you are looking for clean, comfortable, and friendly, this is the place you want to stay. One thing to note -- there is no wireless here.
