“Fantastic location, poor hotel”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

This hotel could be so much more. What a fantastic location, right on the beach, literally 50 steps from the shoreline. Beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and blue/green water. Sharks teeth everywhere! We spent about 6 hours total looking for teeth, and found 1200!! This hotel itslef was a real disapointment. We rented a 1 bedroom directly on the gulf. Granted, this was not one of the renovated rooms, but it was really bad. The floors were dirty, the bathroom was moldy, the drawers in the kitchen cabinets had sticky stuff and crumbs in them. I saw a few bugs scurry around too. They do not change linens or clean the room at all during your stay, and only provide you with 2 tiny bars of soap. I can deal with outdated and sparce furnature, but it really felt dirty. The worst part though is that it seemed like everyone around us SMOKED! So here we are on this beautiful oceanfront location, we throw open the windows facing the ocean, and smoke comes pouring in from our neighbors on both sides who sit outside the entire time, smoking constantly. It was disgusting. We were really disappointed overall. But, like I said, they could be SO MUCH more....

Room Tip: Choose one of the refurbished rooms! Even they could be so much prettier, but are a huge step up fr...

Ellennas,

I am disappointed and apologize that you did not have the experience we wish for all our guests. You are very right in stating that the location on which the resort sits is second to none with beautiful sunsets and many sharks teeth to collect. We recognize that not all the rooms and buildings are to the standard of the new ownership which took over Weston's last year. This is why the resort is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. Many of the buildings and rooms have been completed, and there are still several buildings remaining to be completed this year. You can view the completed buildings and rooms, along with a site rendering on our newly launch website. There is no excuse for your room being dirty and this issue is being addressed by our newly hired management team. Our expectation is that the rooms are spotless upon guest arrival. It is stated on our website and I apologize that it was not communicated to you prior to your arrival, that the wannaB inn is a limited service resort that provides the initial room setup of disposables and linens, but does not have a daily linen or maid service. Stays of two weeks or more are provided with a linen exchange on the 7th day. Cleaning supplies are also provided in the rooms should you wish to tidy your room during your stay. In future, we are considering providing an additional room cleaning service to our guests should they choose. As to your concern of smoking. All rooms are non-smoking and smoke drifting into your open windows in not acceptable. Should you have mentioned this to management, I assure you this would have been addressed. I apologize that this contributed to your disappointment.

We appreciate your feedback and comments and hope that you will give us another chance. We have been making great strides in trying to return Weston's wannaB inn into the resort it once was in its prime. We are not perfect, but we will keep on improving with the helpful comments and recommendations from our guests. I can ensure you that should you return, you will no doubt enjoy the renovations and changes we have made and will continue to make. In fact, the room you stayed in is currently being totally renovated.

Thank you

Where else can you find an efficiency with a patio that walks directly out to a gorgeous sandy beach, right next to miles of state park shoreline? The new renovations are an outstanding improvement, and the reason I can only give it 4 out of 5 stars is the room we stayed in was missing furniture for a seating area. Once that's in place .... perfect!

Ditto to everything H _Camber had to say. We also stayed in a two-bedroom apartment. It was very spacious and CLEAN. The mattresses were new and the linens in good shape. The carpet in the bedroom had been replaced. They said the room was due for more renovation but it was great the way it was. Tile floors except in the bedrooms. And why the bad-mouthing about Mary in some of theses reviews? She was great - very helpful and friendly. Really looked out for her guests. But "Wanna Be Inn"? I wouldn't stay there if I didn't know better. Hopefully they'll get WiFi soon but we really didn't miss it that much. Spent that time on the beach instead.

I'm giving 4 stars because this place is currently being renovated and it needs it- the one open pool is run down and the rooms show some wear- so keep that in mind if you book soon. But all that aside, the location is so breathtaking that nothing else really matters. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments on the ground floor - right.on.the.beach. This beach is littered with so many shells and shark teeth treasures that the kids (8&9 year old girls) couldn't peel themselves away from it. With access to both the bay side and the coast at the very tip of manasota key, you can't find a location better than this if you want a true vacation in paradise. You breath deeper here- it's simply impossible not to. At night you can hear nothing but the waves crashing onto the shore. Sigh.... Interactions with the front office staff- both on the phone and in person- were pleasant and accommodating. I truly look forward to returning here. Hopefully the new owners will reconsider their name change from Westons Resort to the 'Wanna Be Inn' - it sounds cheap and it doesn't even remotely capture the essence of the natural beauty of the property.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the beach. Worth it.

Born and raised in Englewood, FL, I typically stay at my parents house when visiting. This time, because friends were joining me, I decided to rent a place on the beach. Weston's turned out to be a great choice!
We reserved a two bedroom suite close but not adjacent to the beach, which we were happy with. Despite it being Christmas weekend, the staff made sure we made it into our rooms at our convenience and all the promised amenities were available. Unfortunately, due to ongoing renovations our air conditioning didn't work, but we were upgraded to a beach-front room free of charge as soon as possible, in which everything worked perfectly. They offered several staff members to help us move - that's what I call service!
The ONLY thing I would improve is wireless internet for the rooms - although it's possible to use the wifi at the McDonald's just up the road. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, found the beach and short walk to the Stump Pass state park very relaxing, and will definitely choose Weston's again.

Our family has been taking Thanksgiving week at Westons for over 25 yrs and it has always been wonderful. Our trip this year was shadowed by the passing of our Mom (she of course has always been the driving force behind our Thanksgiving family vacations) she made sure we all had our reservations before she passed. In years past truthfully the lovely resort had gone downhill...but it has new owners and they are really investing in it well to bring Westons in Englewood to it's former glory!!!! New mattresses, linens, kitchens ect ect ect. Mary in the office is the absolute best and is so proud of all the upgrades, she is like one of our family. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving feast of fried turkeys and all the fixins then watched our nightly sunset over the Gulf.
When we checked out we were at lunch in town when I realized I had left a favorite pair of black pearl earring in the bedside drawer, when I called Mary she said the room had been cleaned and the wonderful cleaning crew had turned them in at the office!!!!!!I was sure they would be gone forever as I had experienced at hotels before...not so at Westons, the new owners should be very proud of thier long standing and honest employees. Thanks and we will see you next year.

Room Tip: Room 105 is our favorite sunset but most all gulf front rooms are wonderful and even the other rooms...

If you want room service or maid service just go elsewhere. This place is for us people who want to see the best sunsets in the world, spend lots of time walking on the unpopulated beach and just keep it real . Our room, right on the beach, was clean and provided all that was needed for a very comfortable stay. We brought home lots of shells and even some sharks teeth for the kids. No.... the tooth fairy here in NH did not leave money under those pillows. Good try kids.
There is fishing on the Gulf side. Also the bay is just across the street for great fishing. You almost always see dolphins swimming there.
If you bring a fishing pole, you can buy some live shrimp bait down the street. Any bait left over can become an evening appetizer.
It is life at it's best if you still appreciate the simple things in life. In my opinion, this is a hidden jewel.

Mary , at the front office, was exceptionally kind. She has lived in Englewood all of her life and can help you find some good local places for shopping and eating. I can't wait to return.

Thank you Mary. I hope to see you again in the future.

Nancy P
