We checked into the Ivey House for one night this past weekend. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised.

The Ivey House is located in the heart of Everglades City directly next to Speedy Johnson's airboat tours, and it shares a parking lot with a place that does kayak rentals and ecotours.

You walk half a flight of stairs to the main entrance. There is an interior screened porch, and then the lobby. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. She provided us with a map, wrote the opening/closing times of various parts of the hotel, and even suggested some places to have dinner.

The entire interior of the hotel is screened in. You must go into a screened entryway, before typing in a code in a locked door, to access the screened interior/exterior hallway. The pool is small, but a good temperature, and had nice foliage and some running water.

Each room has a small table and chairs outside the door. The interior of the room was spacious, with a tiled floor throughout, tropical bedspread on the beds, a built-in counter/desk, a small refrigerator, and a television. There was a telephone on the counter/desk. The room had a small window that overlooked the parking lot.

The room and the bathroom were very clean, although the room had a very strong odor- a combination of bug spray and cleaning chemicals. We propped our door open for a few minutes and the odor went away. The bathroom is not equipped with little toiletries, but there were full dispensers of shampoo/conditioner and body wash on the wall of the shower. There were many towels available in the room, and the shower had good water pressure.

The Ivey House advertises free WiFi, but we could not get a signal from our actual room. We had to sit closer to the pool, or in the dining room to get a good signal.

Everglades City and the Ivey house are very quiet. It was nice to have some peac and a break from the hussle and bustle of life.. Early in the morning, it was nice to sit outside the room and listen to the sounds of the birds and other wildlife waking all around.

The dining room provides a complimentary breakfast buffet that was delicious. It included cereal, toast, bagels (toast your own), fruit, yogurt, and some hot dishes including home fries, scrambled eggs with cheese, grits, sausage and warm apples. It is a casual, help yourself atmosphere, where you get your own food, and bus your own table. Not bad for "free" breakfast!

We almost stayed at the Rod and Gun Club, but were glad we didn't. We drove by there to check it out, and it has seen better days! I'm so happy we chose the Ivey House instead. It was a decent, clean, and friendly place to stay.

Spent 2 nights in March and had a really great time, even if the weather was a cool . Breakfast was outstanding! Went on a kayak trip with Mary (our guide) on the first day and enjoyed the nice day. She provided us with a good basic knowledge of the mangroves and some of the flora and fawna. We look forward to coming back for another trip in the future. Thanks for everything!

What a nice little place to stay in the Everglades! The hotel looks like it has been recently remodeled. Nothing fancy here but everything is very neat and clean. It looks like new paint inside and out and all the floors are tile. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They serve a nice buffet breakfast every morning which is included in the price. The selections change every day. The rooms are situated around the swimming pool and the area is screened in. Each room has a table and two chairs outside the door in this area. We sat out there every night for a cocktail. WI fi service is also available and it worked around the pool which was convenient. We were delightfully impressed and it is conveniently located to lots of fun things to do and places to eat. Don't rely on the AAA Book here, don't think it was even mentioned. .

It was hard to plan this trip. We booked it from Germany several months in advance and had no idea on what it would be like. But via email we established very friendly contact and were well advised about what to do there. On arrival ALL the staff proved to be very friendly and helpful. We were especially interested in getting to know the plants and animals of the area and for several trips we got very knowledgeable guides. We went to 2 day trips and on a five day camping trip - at any time we had the feeling it was safe and well organized.
We would love to come back.

We stayed in the inn the night before leaving for 5 days of kayaking in the Everglades. From the moment we walked through the door the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms in the inn are large, clean and comfortable. We rented the kayak from Ivey house and we were shuttled to the starting point on time. The continental breakfast has enough variety for everyone's tastes. The food was fresh and well laid out on tables. I travel extensively on business and Ivey House is excellent value. While it is billed as a bed and breakfast, it is big enough to be classified as a hotel/motel. In spite of its size, it still has the homey feeling of a traditional B&B.
