“Needs some improvements, but not bad”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

We stayed for two nights here, had a great time in the Everglades. It is HOT in August here in Florida, so my number one need for any place is A/C, and while it worked very well in our villa there was only one A/C unit and it was in the living room so the bedroom was quite warm, my wife get sick if sleeping with a fan of any kind on her, so we had to turn the A/C down to about 50 to cool off the bedroom, when we got up it was so cold! The kitchen was small and the appliances old, but they worked very well, and the kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans, and silverware, and even grilling utensils, they have a nice grilling area out back and some picnic tables (bring bug spray!) The free use of the canoes is another bonus, we used them once, had a lot of fun with it. The back porch area is nice to sit and try to spot alligators and bird watch. The WIFI worked well, no complaints. There a a few restaurants within walking distance, and multiple boat tours withing walking distance as well. The place is old, no doubt, but if you are looking for some peace and quite, and some adventure at the same time this place is perfect. I would come back in a heart beat!

The room was very run down. There were a couple spots on the wall where duct tape had been used to cover a hole or something. Although it wasn't dirty, it just felt gross because everything was around was so old. The screened porch was excellent and the view was awesome. Staff was very very nice. I personally would not want to stay here again but for someone that just cares about location, this is the place for you.

We stayed for 2 nights. The desk clerk and I think the owner was a local and was a great source of information. She knew where to go and what to eat. The room was clean and comfortable. They had a recliner! Full kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath. We saw alligators from the screened in porch.

This is an older property but has been fairly well maintained. Decent size living room and bedroom, small bathroom and kitchen, but it was good enough for what we wanted it for. It's opn a great location looking right over the river. You can sit out back on your screen porch in the evenings and watch eyes glowing everywhere. My only real complaint was the A/C. It is a single wall unit in the living room. It works just fine, except there is no air unit in the bedroom. For early spring it wasn't a big problem, but I imagine it would be uncomfortable in the summer. Also, the bedroom window didn't open so I couldn't just open the place up to get a breeze going through.
Look, this is the middle of the Everglades; there's not much in the way of luxury comfort around, but we knew that going in. We wanted a comfortable room to crash in at night after being out exploring all day, and somwhere for coffee and a quick breakfast when we woke up. River Wilderness was exactly what we wanted. Also, Myrna couldn't have been nicer. We will likely be return customers on our next trip down.

If location, location, location, is your mantra, this is the place. Otherwise, I have nothing good to say. The place was built in 70's and it is all original equipment which is great if you a car enthusiast, but not a hotel customer.

Room Tip: The rooms all seem the same.

After our stay, a party of 4 men for a fishing trip, we were very unhappy. From torn door screens to broken chairs and a generaly unclean room, to no change of towels in 5 FIVE days and only 1, ONE drinking glass. When we asked the owner, Myrna for more glasses, she said, "can't you get by with what you have"....Seriously, one glass for 4 men? When told about the broken chair, she said.."just get one off the porch"...a plastic lawn chair...for real??
Not that we need waiting on like kings but a little srevice and at least enough glasses for everyone is not asking too much..We did make our choice to stay there baised on what the web site showed us so we can blame no one but our selves, just shows what advertising can do....I would never reccomend this palce to anyone

As others have said, you can't beat the location or views. The place is nice inside, although there was mold in the bathroom. Besides that, I thought it was clean (did see a few ants, but nothing to scare me away). Watch the price on the travel sites, though. I booked a 2 bedroom through Expedia for $170; when we got there, I saw their advertised rates were $150 for a 2 bedroom.
