We did not take advantage of the beaches due to the cool weather, but we did spend the $6 park entry fee to see the Fort. The fort was amazingly well preserved and beautiful. From a kid (or adult) standpoint, there are all these underground passageways and stairwells to get to the various levels and walls of the fort, and the brickwork was beautiful. If you have kids, they will love exploring this place (just keep an eye on them, because there are not a lot of protective railings). The movie and the museum that went with this place are also worth seeing. And, you can see the beach from the fort, or walk out to the beach from the fort as well. In addition, do not miss walking (or biking or eating) in the little historic district of Fernandino Beach. Stop at the Visitor's Center in downtown Fernandino Beach first to get info on all of these things; the lady that is in there is very helpful.

Initially decided to visit as web site said pets were okay, "except in buildings." A bit disappointed when the ranger informed us after entering the park that the entire fort was considered a "building." We were offered a refund, but opted to hike one of the nature trails, while separate members of our party toured the fort individually. Very interesting and well preserved.

Stayed here for two weeks, two camping areas available. The river site is wooded and well protected from sun and wind around 40 sites all with water and power a few with full hookups. We preferred the beach site, windy but nice sun on good days. We are on a new ERA motorhome and carry a scooter. Bathhouse and grounds are great, we have visited the Fort and historic Fernandina Beach. If you are a avid walker the Fort is 3.5 miles RT from the beach campground by road or 3 via the beach. Beach is suitable for big wheel bikes, iffy for hybrids. Sunrise pictures are best from the fishing pier. Grocery and shopping is a short car or in our case scooter ride away. Park gets a solid A from us. Reservations through Reserve America can be made 11 months ahead. Watch for submarines from the Kings Point sub base. With transportation or boat Cumberland Island is a great day trip

We went to Fort Clinch State Park one afternoon and rented bikes (2 adults and 2 kids, ages 6 and 10). The rental price was very reasonable. Even though they are just regular beach cruisers, we had a blast! The park was quiet and beautiful, we had so much fun, we went back again before our trip was over. Highly recommended!

We rode bikes from the Elizabeth Point Lodge, to kill some time and enjoy the scenery. It was nice bike ride in the park, and once we got to the Fort, we realized we didn't bring enough money to pay to visit the Fort. We then rode to the Pier to walk along the beach and enjoy the waves and take some pictures.

Very nice destination to just enjoy and not have any real agenda of what to do.
