“Not to be missed in Fernandina.”
Reviewed 26 April 2012

Outstanding is all that can be said for this jewel off the beaten path. Scallops with strawberries and kiwi for me and salmon with mushroom purée for my wife. Dessert was chocolate mousse cake. This place is not to be missed and the chef will deliver your meal. Among the best on Fernandina!

“High Quality Food”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Merge is not in the trendy downtown of Fernandina Beach but fine food is worth seeking out. The 8th neighborhood is changing for the better, there is beginning to be a restaurant corridor from Merge going north, and Merge itself is a quiet oasis. Not a lot of tables (7 in front), others out back, so a reservation is good idea.

Service was acceptable but not great as I can never highly rate a server who asks how the food was? Either you have to tell the truth or lie, which is an unacceptable choice. Better to simply ask if there is something else we need. If there's a problem, that would be the time to bring it up.

The chef learned his trade at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton and it shows. While only our first time there, our entrees were spectacular. Surf was mushroom filled salmon with a taste that was unique and worth the drive alone. Turf was an excellent sirloin steak large enough to have a second meal at home. The house salad was excellent with a tasty Vidalia dressing that was sweet without being cloying.

The wine list had an eclectic set of choices by the glass or bottle. At $7.50 per glass, the Spanish Monastrell and the French Cotes du Rhone (Guigal in fact), were tasty and good values. I did note a Perrin y Fils Vacqueyras for $52 that we might have tried had we been a larger party.

The dessert list was short. Our choice was a double chocolate mousse cake which was superb. Coffee was available, but not cappuccino.

All in all, Merge is a restaurant worth a return visit in the near future.

“Nicely prepared food”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

We only ordered main dishes, but they were both very good. One was the salmon stuffed with mushrooms and it was excellent, but could have been better with a green vegetable included. The other dish was a sirloin steak, which was good, but not excellent. For dessert we tried the coconut curry ice cream and it was very heavy on the curry. We didn't really care for it. Overall, it was a very good restaurant and the service was excellent.

“Hidden little secret right before the historic district of Fernandina Beach!”
Reviewed 15 April 2012 via mobile

Creative and very flavorful! The salmon stuffed with mushrooms was amazing! I would have never paired salmon with the flavor of a mushroom. My friend had the filet and it was amazing! Hot sour dough rolls fresh from the oven with garlic butter YUMMY!!! The owner/chef stopped by our table and was very personable and shared a few magic tricks with us. Overall very nice experience and we will be back!
