“great weekend getaway”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

stayed recently for a long weekend in November. Weather was near *) degrees one day, but then go much cooler...cloudy w/no rain thank goodness. Off-season which was great....but unfortunately weather was not ideal for taking advantage of the lovely wraparound porch or pool/hot tub and garden in the back. maybe next time!
Hoyt House is a beautiful home and was beautifully decorated for Christmas and annual cookie tour. Room was ample size, bed very comfortable and nice size bath w/ lovely ammenities. Owners are very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very nice, with hot towels to wipe your hands also included! Would agree on more diversity of menu options..particularly more healthy options. Pecan rolls are delicious...but not every day :)
House is in a great location...although street noise from all of the trucks going back & forth to the port can be a bit annoying. A bit pricey considering the off season...but I was looking for a nice place/experience. Look forward to going back.

Room Tip: back of the house, away from the street noise

Our room situation didn't pan out when we ended up in Fernandina Beach for a wedding, so having walked by the Hoyt House a few times, we stopped in to see if staying there was an option. It was, and it was such a good option, that I'm more inclined now to stay at B&Bs than ever before. Beautiful home, great room, wonderful hosts and puppies! We couldn't ask for a better place to stay, not to mention the amazing three-course breakfasts. It was a shame we didn't get a chance to take advantage of the hot tub or heated outdoor pool, but maybe next time. So close to everything in the sleepy town, it was the perfect place to happen across, and we'll stay there again if we're ever in that neck of the woods again.

Room Tip: Couldn't say much about the other rooms, but the one we stayed in was lovely, had a nice bathroo...

You feel as though you are staying at a private residence while visiting the Hoyt House. From the freshly prepared breakfast in the morning to evenings on the porch swing sipping wine, you feel right at home. The grounds are lovely and well kept and the location is perfectly placed at the top of Centre Street with all the downtown shops and restaurants within walking distance. I definitely plan to return hopefully during the Holidays while the Christmas decor is up and to join in on the cookie tour in the neighborhood! I also have two small dogs that came with my husband and I and it was a perfect set up for them. All in all, a fabulous stay!

Room Tip: Contact Myrta and she will help place you in the perfect room that will fit your needs

My friend made the reservation and although I was a little disappointed we would not be directly on the ocean once we arrived and had a look around the house and the area I was so glad she found Hoyt House. The beaches are nice but this is a beautiful home in the historic district, classically decorated with a warm hostess and 3 very sweet dogs. Coming when things were quieter, we were one of only 3 couples, we were able to really enjoy our stay without having to share the pool or be too regimented at breakfast. Our room was in the newer section of the house on the ground floor. It was large and well lit from the many windows. I don't remember there being any issues with street noise but that may be due to the location more towards the back. The bathroom was nice with a big jacuzzi tub. The attention to detail in the house is superb and there were many amenities and niceties that we haven't experienced in other B&Bs such as the cookies in the room and in the hall, access to a large selection of teas and coffees and even an ice machine! They also have a large selection of DVDs, chairs, towels, robes, bikes and even a fishing rod there for the guests to borrow and use during their stay. I particularly appreciated the use of the fishing rod. The back yard, pool and hot tub were lovely at night. I liked that you could choose from different items for breakfast. The only downsides were not being there longer to really enjoy everything the house had to offer and spend more time with the dogs. Also, there was no hot chocolate with the coffee machine so I would request that next time.

We had such a wonderful time. It was more than we hoped for. The Hoyt House is a beautiful B&B that has everything to offer. The owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. It is located within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in downtown Fernandina. And what a beautiful town it is. We would (and have) recommended the Hoyt House to our friends and family. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful

Myrta makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. Every possible need is met and even those you didn't even know you had. The pool and hot tub are beautiful! After staying at tons of B and B's this is by far the number one. Go and check it out!

We just got home from three wonderful nights at the Hoyt House. We stayed in the Wells room on the first floor. It is a nice size room with a king size bed that sits very high off the floor. The room is equipped with a large sized flat screen tv, which my husband enjoyed watching football on.

The location of the Hoyt House is perfect for walking into the Historic District. It is located on a truck route that I would imagine could be loud if you are not used to hearing large trucks. (It didn't bother us since we are used to hearing things like that at our house, and the room has a white noise machine which helps to block out noise.) However, we rarely heard noises from inside the home and I was surprised to see how many people were staying at the Hoyt House since we rarely heard any other guests while we were there.

One of the best things about the Hoyt House has to be the bar/pub. Every evening around 5 my husband and I enjoyed a beer (well a cocktail for me) at the bar with Myrta. Myrta is wonderful and so entertaining. (Take advantage of the cocktails at the house since the majority of restaurants in town do not serve liquor.)

Our only one critique has to do with breakfast. Overall the food was great (love the sticky buns) we just wished that there was a bit more variety with the main courses. And even this isn't a real complaint due to the fact that they give you a choice. Many B&Bs don't have a menu and give guests choices.
