“Wonderful Geat away for the family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

The resort is on the beach with lots of activities for all. A very friendly staff, that likes to make the guest happy. We stayed only two days but did not have to leave the resort to have lots of fun. We have a teenager and he went down to the game area and pool to have fun. Our friends had smaller children and the got to feed fish, paint and much more.

Overall a great destination with a quick 2 hour flight direct from nyc. We are followers of ritz brand and while this one may be less overtly luxurious it holds it's own as a special place. Our rooms (were a few suites due to full house and need to move) were all spacious. The regular rooms are not however. So unless you want to bunk in same bed with your kids...
The only restaurant worth a rave is Salt. It truly is as good as it claims, not often the case at all hotel top restaurants. The club lounge was a kids paradise over the easter week and our kids loved the above and beyond service from each and every staff member whom went out of the way. The spa is serious stuff - I had a treatment every day and was very happy with most everyone. It's the real deal, luxurious offerings that really live up. We love Nantucket and Amelia island had a similar easy vibe. Would definitely recommend it to anyone and will surely return. One negative is the rooms can definitely use refreshing, and modern and fresh is our happy place.

Loved the spa. The salt shop was amazing and I loved the half hour lecture. The hotel and grounds are beautifully maintained. Despite there being so many kids, I was impressed with the level of cleanliness. Friendly staff. Brian the bartender was very accommodating.

I stayed here with my husband and two school-age children over Spring Break for 4 nights in a one-bedroom ocean view suite. I really wanted to like this hotel, but there were some rather noticeable glitches in service.

First, the good: It is a clean hotel, nicely appointed public spaces (within expectations for a Ritz). The salt water pool was nicely heated (though a bit small for a resort). Reasonable breakfast options at 4750, though I would like to see healthier options clearly marked as this is becoming standard at other luxury hotels. There is a game room with fooseball, air hockey, Wii, and XBox, and attached movie theater for kids. The A/C in our room worked well.

The glitches, however, were many. Upon arrival and check-in, we immediately noticed the following several problems with our room:

1) a bees nest on the balcony which we knocked down ourselves
2) numerous tiny holes eaten into the wood furniture, indicating the possibility of termites
3) the shower area was without a door for privacy, while the tub area had a door; plus no under-counter storage space in bathrooms...just not well thought-through
4) tv remote controls that did not work properly
5) very lumpy mattress on the king bed
6) sofa bed was poor quality - it sagged and had sharp metallic edges; I've seen better on cruise ships
7) mysteriously damp carpeting that couldn't be fixed, despite a review by the hotel (and I mean, really, really wet...like walking in a puddle)

Otherwise, the room was spacious and met our family's needs (e.g., no. of bathrooms, closet space). Unlike other reviewers, we did not experience issues with housekeeping and found them consistent.

Other service mishaps were noted, particularly in dining:
1) Room service would provide a time estimate and routinely show up 30 minutes late, sometimes with an incorrect order.
2) Service at 4750 was always slow in the morning and, again, with frequent incorrect orders -- this resulted in us nearly missing our flight on our last day.
3) We ate outdoors for dinner at 4750 one evening and a bug flew into my husband's wine glass (we had ordered a bottle of wine). When we brought this up with our server, she removed the wine glass and replaced it with an empty clean one. Of course, we had not expected to be comped for the entire bottle, but we would hope that the glass of wine be replaced and refilled by another open bottle (even just a house wine) as a courtesy.
4) We did not dine at Salt, but experienced the lounge menu. We asked our server if we could sample the main menu while sitting in the restaurant lounge and she responded that the chef was uninterested in serving his menu to lounge patrons -- I have never had this request declined at any high-priced restaurant at a 5-star hotel.

A few additional areas to improve:
1) Air hockey in the game room was extremely loud and did not suite the acoustics of the room; in addition, many of the video game consoles were not working
2) We tried kayaking, which was nice; but would have liked to see more ocean activities provided by the hotel (e.g., sailing)
3) Lounge chairs by the beach need improvement - they are not 5-star hotel quality

On a final note - we did swing by the Omni to check out the scene...and we are still glad we picked the Ritz. Amelia Island is a lovely, sleepy little beach town and if we come back, we will come back to the Ritz Carlton.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ritz. We enjoyed our upgraded room very much, service was excellent, room immaculate, really had a great time. Loved the pool area and enjoyed watching the sunrise from our balcony each morning.

I booked this hotel months in advance thru Amex Platinum & was not able to get an ocean view but new I'd get an upgrade based upon availability, full breakfast & a $100 spa credit.

As I've never had a bad experience at a Ritz Carlton anywhere, I made the booking. This is a full resort, with a great spa, small gym, indoor & outdoor pools, 3 restaurants & a major golf course & tennis set right on a beautiful stretch of the Atlantic. How bad could it be?

We were welcomed graciously on arrival. At reception we were told that our room wasn't yet ready but that we were being upgraded to an ocean view and provided a glass of champagne for our anniversary. As it was a cold, overcast day, we left our bags with the valet, toured the property (lovely) and decided to go into town (Fernadina Beach) for lunch at Kelly's Courtyard after talking to the concierge who had also booked us dinner at a great Italian restaurant as we wanted a less dressy option to Salt, the pricey hotel restaurant.

On return our room was ready, and worth the wait. A great ocean view on a high floor.

Breakfast the next day was fantastic- a huge buffet with omelet station. The chef had a great sense of humor.

The gym was disappointing, too small & minimal equipment (only 2 recumbent bikes) but functional. To access a ladies room you had to leave the gym.

The spa was a great experience, a separate ladies only side with indoor hot tub, steam room, relaxation lounge & lockers & shared indoor pool.

The beautiful beach is accessed over short bridges that cross the protected dunes and has attendants for chairs, towels, umbrellas & water bottles. There are also numerous spots for conversation, outdoor fire pits & benches. A well-planned property worthy of a return visit the next time we're in the area!

Stayed here for 3 nights. First off, the meeting rooms are freezing. Bring a jacket! Rooms are nice, but be prepared for thin walls. Food options are okay; staff at Cafe 4750 are kind and really quite friendly. Pool service was not the level expected at a Ritz. I think more training is needed there. Great spa, great beach, beautiful views. I've stayed at lots of Ritz Carlton properties and this one is above average but not near the top.
