“Excellent family destination”
Reviewed 22 August 2009

Just returned from this resort. We had a fabulous time. This hotel is perfect destination for a beach getaway. Resort is geared for families. If you are looking for nightlife & fast pace, this is not your place. We had dinner @ Salt & would highly recommend. Overall, this property delivers all the luxury & service you expect of a Ritz Carlton, but does not hammer your wallet like some other Ritz properties that we have been to, Grand Cayman in particular.

My most recent stay in May 2009 was the second year in a row we made the trip and we plan on making this a yearly visit. We first went without our daughter who is now 3 and quickly decided we had made a mistake as the hotel is so accomodating to children. We brought her this year and it was really the perfect 4 day trip for all of us. We stayed in a deluxe garden suite, which gives access to the club lounge and spa. The room itself blew us away when we arrived. A huge marble bathroom with dual vanities, a garden tub, large multi head shower and potty closet was such a nice surprise. The patio overlooked the water and was as large as our room. The staff was quick to get to know our daughter and made every effort to make her feel at home. The restaurant Salt was also very accomodating to our toddler. The wait staff brought her plenty to munch while we were waiting on our food as well as little games to play at the table. Not what you expect from your usual fine dining experience.

This is not a party hotel so if you are looking for night life you should try another Ritz. It is a relaxing beach atmosphere great for families. We look forward to our next visit!

This hotel is exceptional. We stayed here during a conference on the island. From the moment we pulled up to valet to entering our room it was spectacular. We had a wonderful stay and hated to leave after a week. The hotel is pricey but you can afford to spoil yourself every now and again. Enjoy!

We just spent 4 nights at the Ritz-Carlton. I have stayed at many RC's across the country, but mostly for business. What I liked about the Amelia Island property were the location (we had an oceanfront suite), excellent service (luggage didn't arrive with us at JAX but the hotel took care of it), and awesome restaurant (Salt). The beach is about what I expect from any beach on the Atlantic side (not the clearest of water, dark sand). Luckily no jellyfish stings on this trip! The pool area was great. Attentive service by the staff made it relaxing. The kids enjoyed the pool the most. The food at their 5-star restaurant, Salt, was simply delicious. I wasn't too impressed with their other more causal restaurants, but once again, that's about what I expected. Overall this is just what we needed a week before the kids go back to school.

If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is the place. But when I got there there was nothing to do. There was not a single exciting thing going on. Nice beaches. Warning: jellyfish are EVERYWHERE.

I will definitely come back to the Ritz Carlton at Amelia Island. The entire hotel is impeccably clean and well-decorated. We stayed only one night and headed into Fernandina Beach to experience the town life around dinner time, then returned to dine at Salt. We did not have a reservation but called last minute to see if there were any openings (they were booked all night) and they found a way to make it happen, then delivered unforgettable foods with "salt pairings" with five star service. We then retreated to the billiards lounge for cocktails and some games with other guests (where the bar tender worked extra late keeping the bar open for us just because we were there), and capped off the whole evening lounging around the fire pit in the court yard with a bonfire and telling stories. For a one-night stay, the memory will stay with me forever because the service staff bends over backwards for you and makes sure your experience is top-notch at every turn. In the morning, we walked the beach, took photos and then enjoyed more excellent service in the boutiques downstairs where they have a wide selection of souvenirs, clothing, jewelry and accessories, and the workers make sure they remember your first name while they assist you. I can't say enough about the service here. Some of the best I've experienced, and that statement is even true for the Ritz chain because I've stayed at many Ritz Carltons. This one tops my list - right up next to the Ritz in Key Biscayne, Florida.

Our room was also wonderful - just large enough for two people, double sinks in the bathroom (love it), and a large balcony big enough for a table with chairs. I also love the extra-wide lounge chair with ottoman. I curled up in this chair with a blanket and a good book while the ocean breeze crept in through the balcony door. Unbelievable evening.

I would not recommend this Ritz to friends or family. While the service and staff were friendly and generally attentive, this property does not live up to the Ritz name by any stretch of the imagination. You definately do not get what you pay for. I have stayed at much less expensive properties that were far nicer.

The wireless internet cost $50 for a week and only worked about 25% of the time. We attempted to watch an in room movie which also did not play appropriately. I had to send back silverware and a napkin during a meal becuase there was food stuck to it when I unwrapped it. The food and drinks were very expensive but not particularly good which is a shame since you used to be able to count on the Ritz having excellent meals.

This particular property caters to families with small children and conventions which explains a great deal. Families with several children and family groups are renting out small rooms together - the result of which is a lot of noise and rooms that are run down and not particularly clean. Small children are allowed to run and scream in the lounge areas until late into the evening, making it impossible to have adult "down time." There is no night life to speak of at this property.

We come to the beach in this area of Florida a couple of times a year and after at least two bad experiences like this one at the Ritz Amelia Island - it will be the last time we stay at this property.
