Probably my favorite use of HHonors points for a vacation destination along this part of the coast EXCEPT immediate access to the beach. The historic downtown area is all around you so eating and shopping is the best compared to other options. The beach is a short drive away so you just have to decide where to access it with public parking. As far as beach access, I prefer the Hampton on Jekyll. See my review for the other Hampton nearby.

Fernandina is where I pickd to celebrate my "16th" birthday. You see "I" am a Leap year baby. !!! This was a perfect place ,the staff was very accomodating and friendly and it was spotless. My brother and his wife met us there on their way back to Pennsylvania. We all loved the location because we never needed a car, we could walk to all the shops and wonderful restaurants .We are already talking about going back again . We all stay at Hampton Inns when we travel ,which is quite often and are never disappointed in their clealiness and service.

Room Tip: Some rooms do have jacuzzis in the bedroom and fireplaces. That combination can make for a very roma...

The hotel lobby was very different than your average hampton inn. It is very unique with a beautiful winding staircase and giant clock ceiling. The room was very nice with a seperate bedroom area and a kitchen complete with full sized fridge, microwave, range top, dishwasher, and plates etc. The location is great with the exception of the train tracks. Other reviewers have said that if you ask for a room towards the front of the hotel the train blowing its whistle at all hours of day and night are not a problem. We asked for a room near the front when we booked and were told a note was put in the system, but when we got there the front desk clerk looked a bit frazzled when we asked if the room key he gave us belonged to a room near the front. The reason I left a star off was because we had asked in advance for a room near the front so the train whistle wouldn't be a problem, but we got a room in the back and were awakened several times during the night. Aside from that, everything was wonderful. The location is great! If you love to walk I highly recommend. Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Even an old movie theater a mile or so away. Had a great time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the tracks if you are a light sleeper!

Just stayed 4 nights and had a great experience. Other reviews complained about the train, after the first night we all slept right through it...even the 3 year old. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location was perfect, we seldom had to get in the car. We will stay again.

I have not stayed in a hotel with a staff as friendly and accommodating as this one. From the time we walked in until we left, the entire staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The lady as the front desk had such a bubbly personality that she made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped into the lobby. The ladies in the breakfast room were constantly cleaning up and making sure we had what we wanted, with a smile on their faces. Plus there was a good variety of breakfast items.

The rooms were clean and comfortable.
This is a wonderful example of the type of service that all hotels should offer. Thank you!!

We stayed 3 nights at the Hampton Inn on Second St. (there are two Hampton Inns on the Island). It is located in the heart of the historic district and offers a riverview and lovely sunsets over the water. The hotel is not your typical Hampton Inn. It has a character all it's own with a "Gone with the WInd" staircase in the lobby and lovely deco. The dining room is large with comfortable chairs and tables and it over looks the pool and has a view of the river waterfront. They have a very nice selection of breakfast foods and in the afternoon they offer appetizers from local restaurants to sample. The location of the hotel is in walking distance of some wonderful restaurants and outdoor cafes as well as shops and historic buildings and homes. The staff at this Hampton Inn was extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel is well maintained and offers some good prices with AAA or AARP discounts.
