Pirate Playground is an amazing new asset to our community that offers children and adults of all ages and abilities the opportunity to interact and play with each other among the magnificent natural surroundings that Amelia Island is known for. No family trip to Fernandina Beach should pass without planning an excursion to see this beautiful facility.

The "Pirate Playground" as it's now referred to by the locals, offers a unique and different play ground experience for kids of all ages and all abilities. It is not your typical play structure with swings and monkey bars, it offers hands on sensory structures and activities that kids crave! There are swings, but there is also a sand bed, with moving equipment and water (dress in play clothes that you don't mind getting dirty), even buried treasure! Life-size musical structures and playhouse facades, a wooded pirate ship, a woven web to climb, and things that wind, twist, and turn. It is also enclosed by a fence and gate and its all on one level so parents can see their kids from across the playground, which is so nice. And all visitors enjoy watching the kids play together. A must visit on your trip to Amelia.

This is a wonderful shaded playground with lots of non-traditional equipment. My child loved the music section and the sand/water building section. This playground is perfect for children of all abilities. We will make this a regular playground stop. Bring bug spray if you visit in late afternoon or evening.

I help train Project CHANCE dogs. These Golden Retrievers are raised and trained right here in Nassau County to work as service dogs for autistic children all over the nation. I took Phoenix, an eight month old puppy being trained to work at a school here in Florida. It was his first of what will surely be many times to come on a playground and the Pirate Playground was perfect practice! This multi sensory playground of chimes, sandbox, climbing rope, tilted twirling metal swing, play 'stores' and much more had many children of varying ages and abilities laughing and yelling, "Look at me!", "Lift me up!". With all this going on Phoenix had a lot to look at and listen to while we walked around. He also enjoyed sitting and laying on the soft ground material in the play area while I relaxed on one of the comfortable benches. When you come to the Pirate Playground, whether you have a service dog or not, you and your children will enjoy this fun, unique and accessible to ALL playground!
