The Stranahan House has stood at the center of Fort Lauderdales growth since it was built and played a significant role in the economic and social life of this community. we sat in the shade and listened while the docent explained the beginnings of fort lauderdale and this area to us - there was a nice breeze coming up off the intercoastal waterway and the lizards were running all over - - the house itself is really well done and complete the story makes it all come alive - there are a couple of washrooms and a small gift shop in the rear

You can see this in less than an hour. Nice to see how the pioneers lived. Nicely preserved... but hemmed in by modern development and hard to park nearby. Do it if you're already planning a day on Las Olas.

Stranahan House is one of the truly hidden gems in Fort Lauderdale. It is easy to forgot the rich history an culture of the metro-area, but Stranahan House has managed to preserve that for all of these years. From the architecture, to the antiques, clothing, and wonderful gift shop; The Stranahan House is a must see venue when visiting South Florida and the Fort Lauderdale area. Such a rich history and compelling story on how Fort Lauderdale, FL came to be.

The Stranahan House is a treasure of Fort Lauderdale, and not just because it is the site where the city began as its first trading post and post office. The House, which gives visitors a glimpse into the past, is more than a historic museum, it's a special place in modern-day Fort Lauderdale with a living history that is being added to every day. By playing host to a wide variety of events for kids and adults, including Weddings, the annual Pineapple Jam fundraiser, Ghost Tours, the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and much more, all residents of Fort Lauderdale and guests alike feel welcome there. A must see whether you live in South Florida or are visiting.
