We visited Fort lauderdale on holiday in Sept 2011. Decided to stay at The Riverside Hotel upon recommendation from a friend of ours also from England was working in FL. We met up with him when we arrived at 10pm after a stormy flight down from New York. We headed straight over to the Big City Tavern opposite for a drink and I immediately loved the hotel's convenient location. The Big City Tavern offered a large selection of very nice wines at reasonable prices. However I was more excited about my favourite restaurant chain in the world being right next door to the hotel - The Cheesecake Factory!!!
I was a bit sceptical about staying at this hotel because I thought it may be a bit dated and chinzy in design from the pictures I saw on the hotel's website but it was really nice. It had a colonial feel and a nice atmosphere. I immediately felt at home here. The pool area is lovely with some really nice lush foliage and planting and I loved the way it was right on one of Fort Lauderdale's waterways so you could see boats go past.
Only thing that was a bit frustrating was the aircon in our room. It didn't work very well unless it was on high and then it was so loud I struggled to sleep.
Overall a really nice stay, would definitely stay here again.More
