We have stayed at this hotel many times.
The location is on a main street in Ft Lauderdale, FL.
The tower corner rooms with balcony are excellent, although a bit pricey.
The Indigo dining room is good for breakfast (outside) and is very pleasant.
Be careful at the Golden Lyon Bar and be sure to be advised when Happy Hour begins and ends as the charges will vary considerably.
The public rooms are very handsome, the pool area is a bit of a disgrace as it is untended.
This is a handsome hotel.

doy·enne
noun \dȯi-ˈ(y)en, dwä-ˈyen\
: a woman who has a lot of experience in or knowledge about a particular profession, subject, etc.

This 75 year-old Ft. Lauderdale property that anchors the hip, chic, and busy Las Olas District is a very nice place to stay... it almost feels like a private club.

Classic "Old Florida" architecture and design, polite staff, great food and booze, and a really interesting cross-section of guests. If you enjoy meeting other travelers who are up to something in their lives, you'll like this place.

This was our first stay and we were here for two nights prior to our embarkation for a Royal Caribbean Cruise to Belize and Cozumel.

We booked our reservation about a month ago via the Stash Rewards program.

Stash Rewards is a hotel loyalty program that is used by some of the finer "boutique" hotels around the country. Even though our stay was right in the middle of high-season here in South Florida, we had no problem securing our King-bedded room. I just love it when things work the way they should :)

Michael DiMartino, Guest Services Manager was very helpful in finalizing our arrangements and Daniel Mera, a staff Concierge, was very gracious in organizing our private shuttle transportation from the airport to the hotel, in advance.

We arrived about 9 PM on a Thursday evening; Terry Perugini, the Front Desk Supervisor, got us checked-in quickly and politely without any glitches. We were up in our room in the old original section of the hotel in about a minute.

Right after we got into our room (#215), Javier, one of the bellmen, arrived with our 4 heavy bags and got us set-up in the room and then he went and fill our ice bucket for us... nice touch!

Our room was on the smallish side, but nicely appointed with the requisite wide screen TV, desk, and mini-bar.

The bathroom was small, but again nicely appointed with good toiletries.

Our only real issue with our room was a lack of extra electrical outlets.

I travel with a laptop, an iPhone, an iPad, and a digital camera. My wife travels with her own iPhone and iPad. Ergo, we need about six (6) outlets to charge everything up instead of having to leapfrog our charging units around two available sockets. Yes, the room was older, but there are multi-plug outlet devices available that should be installed. Like it or not, many of us are tethered to our personal electronic devices; hotels need to proactively accommodate those needs.

Our room was clean, tidy, and quiet. The mattress was very comfortable. The decor was a bit dated, but we were told that this section of the hotel is scheduled to be refurbished later this year.

After unpacking, we went down to Golden Lyon Vintage Pub just off the Lobby.

Food is served in the bar until 10 PM.

I ordered a Cosmo Martini (very well made) and my wife had a glass of Pino Grigio wine. We also ordered the fried Calamari appetizer; it was excellent with a generous portion and a nice gently spiced tomato-based dipping sauce.

If you are an early riser, there is no coffee service available in the Lobby until 6:30 AM, although there is a Starbucks a couple of blocks down on Las Olas Boulevard, to the left, if you really need your java fix right away.

As soon as the sun came out, we walked across the street to the hotel's private swim club to enjoy the warm weather. Private and cozy, this is an ideal hideaway to peacefully catch some rays while watching very expensive yachts cruise by on the adjacent canal... very cool!

Our pool attendant/bartender was JoAnne, who could not have been more polite, helpful, and considerate. Even though she is apparently a relatively new hire, it's very obvious she has an "owner's eye" and knows how to attend to her guests; bravo!

JoAnne is a very capable bartender (she has a full bar at her disposal in the pool house) and she made me two drinks - a quite excellent Long Island Iced Tea and later, a Gin and Tonic; decent pours with both drinks. We also ordered a fish dip appetizer which was served with lavosh crackers; it was simply fresh, very mild, and outstanding; we'd absolutely order it again.

It's so nice to stay in a non-formulaic chain hotel.

The Riverside really IS the "anchor" for the Las Olas District.

We thoroughly enjoyed walking up and down the boulevard for several blocks on both sides taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of Ft. Lauderdale's happening design and arts district. There are quite literally dozens of bars, restaurants, sidewalk cafes, art galleries, clothing, and jewelry stores all within a 10 minute walk. The people watching is great too!

My wife and I were both very pleased with the interesting variety of guests from all over that this property attracts. We had some great conversations with others staying here; if you are bored... its your own fault :)

Tip: Be sure to go directly across the street and check out the well-designed and reasonably affordable jewelry and watches at Silver Street International. Bill and Ruth Miller are the proprietors (they've been there for 20 years) and they really have some cool stuff. I bought myself a well-designed Danish Bering men's watch for under $200 and my wife got a very nice necklace and pendant for about the same amount.

All in all, we had a great time at the Riverside and we look forward to our next visit.

Lots of old world charm, good service and excellent location! We stayed with another couple in December 2013 for two nights (would have liked to stay longer and would certainly return if we are ever in FL again). Both rooms were large and beautifully appointed. Luxurious touches in the furnishings, linens and toiletries. We found the staff friendly and efficient from check-in to check-out. They were not overtly friendly or intrusive but just did their jobs with good humour and efficiency, very approachable and helpful when needed. We ate out for most meals as there are just so many choices nearby, however we did have lunch on the final day (on the footpath café on las olas blvd) and it was nice, just salads and sandwiches, but just what we were after. Don't remember our room numbers but high up and with small balcony. We also stayed at another hotel in FL on the beach front (returning from a cruise) but 'riverview' was by far the best choice.

Room Tip: Dear TA, The rating keys are stuck on terrible...certainly would rate as very good to excellent

A group of co-workers stayed at this hotel for a business meeting. First the good..The location in Las Olas is perfect. Lot's of great places to eat at and only 2 miles to the beach which is a nice walk from the Hotel. Beautiful canals, yachts and just a great area. View from the hotel is nice if you stay in an upper floor in the tower. The hotel is old and beautiful with a lot of charm. Now the negative. Room service was poor. It took four calls one am just to reach room service despite calling the extension in the book. First call they hung up and the next few no answer after having to transfer me. After reaching them it took almost an hour to get a simple coffee and fruit breakfast and the coffee was only one small cup, apparently a pot cost extra.. Next am I used the door Tag to order food and the food came promptly the next am but with no silverware. Hard to eat eggs with no silverware. Stirred my coffee and creamer with a strip of bacon... By the time I got my silverware the eggs were Luke warm. Also, when I arrived the bathroom floor had a lot of hair on it. Gross and not what you expect from a nice hotel. Rooms were around $235/night on a group rate. Love the location and hotel has nice qualities and charm but service is not where it should be.

Hi AdventureDad007,

Thank you so much for your feedback on TripAdvisor! We'd like to thank you for all of your kind compliments as we love our location and old Florida charm! Also, criticisms on our service are rare but we take those very seriously. If you get the chance we'd appreciate you emailing the details to our Guest Service Manager, Michael DiMartino, at mdimartino@riversidehotel.com. This way he can address those details to our room service team and housekeeping.

We truly hope to see you again, especially to experience our renovations from this upcoming year and to try our new restaurant, Wild Sea Oyster Bar and Grille.

Have a wonderful week!

My husband came to the Riverside for business and I came for fun. It worked out well for both of us! Our large and bright room was located in the newer tower with a balcony facing the inner costal on the 12th floor. It was delightful to watch the yachts and other watercraft from our balcony. There are oodles of great restaurants and shops on Los Olas Blvd. that gives this historic hotel extra charm. The staff is very warm and accommodating and served well as a business venue, but also proved worthy of 2 weddings during or 4 day stay. If you're feeling energetic, you can walk 2 miles to the Fort Lauderdale beachfront or catch the somewhat unpredictable trolley.

Room Tip: While the original rooms still provide you with a great location and helpful staff, the new tower is...

Stayed one night prior to a cruise. The Riverside Hotel is very nice for an older facility. The rooms are TINY, however it was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms have supposed to have an art-deco kind of feel to them, but they’re more dated than retro.

We were on the 6th floor, right next to the storage room for the housekeepers, who were very loud early in the morning. Other than that, the room was nice & quiet, even for being next to the elevators. There was no trash can in our room; only one bucket labeled “recycle”.

The staff was very friendly and efficient. It did however take almost 30 min. for a taxi to arrive. There are a couple of restaurants within the hotel itself, and several others within a half-block walk, along with a lot of novelty shops. I recommend checking out the menus at the neighboring establishments as well; most had them available on the sidewalk out front.

Overall I would recommend the Riverside Hotel if you’re into classic refurbished hotels, and aren’t looking for a lot of modern amenities (including floorspace).

My husband and I stayed for 4 days for business trip. It is pet friendly so we could bring along our treasured dog who enjoyed the Riverwalk every day. All of the staff was so very nice and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for more but on our last day, we left some clothing in the closet of the room. A staff member called us to let us know but we were already 100 miles away. A very nice staff member, Edwin, let us know he would be happy to ship our clothes to us and did so which arrived promptly. Not only is this hotel close to shops, restaurants, and beautiful scenery, it is a 5 star hotel with a wonderful staff all around. We will definitely being staying again. Thanks to each and everyone for making our stay and very pleasant one!
