Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina
Ranked #43 of 127 Hotels in Fort Lauderdale
Reviewed 27 May 2012

1 May 2012. Other reviews of this hotel seem to be either raves or complaints. I think it depends on whether you're in the tower or the pool section. The former has large, modern rooms. I don't know about the ones around the pool, but from the outside, they look as if they belonged to an average motel. We were assigned a pool room, but I asked if we could have one in the tower, and the clerk moved us at no extra charge.

Pier 66 was closed, because of weather, so we had a light dinner at the bar. It was indeed light and not inexpensive, but after a long day of travel, we didn't mind. Breakfast the next morning was also expensive at the hotel, especially the buffet, so we went to Einstein's, a bagel shop just half a mile from the hotel. Go out the front door and over the bridge which you can see on your right. There are also shops there for last minute items you might need for your cruise.

Started going to Pier 66 20 years ago, Back then it was the happening place. Now that I'm older, so is it. However, the cabana rooms are nice and all have patios. The pool is refreashing. The food and drinks are pretty good but pricey. The tropical setting is nice as well as it being a great place to look at some beautiful yachts.

Room Tip: Breakfast is not included and the little breakfast room is a rip off. Nice employees though.

We spent 3 nights in a Tower Room prior to our Panama Canal cruise in April 2012. We were upgraded (thanks Evan) to a Junior suite with a fantastic view of the cruise port. I actually watched our cruise ship arrive early on 25th. The room was spacious, clean and well maintained. We ate each morning at Mariners - the service and food at breakfast were very good. We ate twice in The Lounge and both service and food were very good.
We rented a car on Day 2 from Avis depot on-site. This was very convenient. We used the Water Taxi on Day 2 which is a short walk through the marina
The only disappointment was a charge of over $6 for a small bottle of water that appeared on our credit card after the stay - this seems excessive for an item that costs less than $1

Room Tip: Get a tower room with a view of the cruise port

We stayed here for one night at the end of April 2012 prior to taking a cruise. I was somewhat apprehensive after reading some of the earlier reviews but my fears were quickly dispelled upon arrival. The Foyer is very elegant and checkin was fast and efficient. We had reserved garden rooms which had received some questionnable reviews but we found them to be clean dry and odourless. In addition they were well appointed and had all you could need. We had a late snack at the bar and the food was excellent and breakfast was normal fare in the morning. Having an Avis Office attached to return our rental as well as a shuttle to the port were big pluses.
Would have no hesitation on recommending anyone to stay here.

I had never been to Florida and was in town for my friends wedding held at the Hyatt. The banquet staff was fantastic! Food was delicious. The front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly and courteous. We had a comfortable bed, a mile walk to the beach and less than that into town. My only complaint was staying on west lanai was very difficult at first to to find our room, by the front desks directions but once we got to our room - we found to be perfect and loved the marina views. I will recommend this hotel and if ever have the opportunity to return to FL-I will gladly stay here again. Thanks for making my first trip to FL so memorable.

Room Tip: Choose the marina view rooms for terrific views and extra quiet.

Before arriving at this hotel I had been reading the reviews for many months. They are so varied that I was quite nervous and did't know what to expect. I need not have worried. This is a lovely property!
Check in was fast. We were given a room in the tower with a lovely view of the grounds, canals and boats. The grounds are expansive and immaculate and the pool area is very scenic.
The room was quite large with a very big balcony. It had a king bed, desk, table and chair, lounge chair. There was also a small fridge, iron, safe etc and an excellent HD TV with some cable stations.
The bathroom was very large and included a bath.
There was no noise from outside or the corridors. However as it was an adjoining room there was some minor noise from neighbors , but no more than usual in a hotel. It was just an occasional slight murmur.
The buffet breakfast was OK. Some of the a la carte dishes looked quite appealing. It was not overly crowded and the service was good.
We also ate at Pelican Landing. The food was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but it is worth going to as the setting is wonderful. Relaxing with beautiful views of the water and boats.
The location of the hotel is very good - close to the Cruise Terminal and the airport and in a very picturesque setting. But it is a fair walk to shops and restaurants. This is not a major concern as the hotel runs a shuttle to the beach, taxis are cheap, the water taxi is nearby and the Sun Trolley goes along the street and takes you to most places for 50 cents! We spent a day on the water taxi which was an eye-opener and very enjoyable.
All staff we dealt with we're friendly and helpful. The lobby is large and welcoming. In fact, the hotel has a really good vibe about it. It is an older hotel and the room shows some wear and tear but there is absolutely nothing that would affect your stay in any way. Any previous reviewers who criticized this are probably extremely fussy. We enjoyed our four day stay, thought it was great value and would definitely return.
