“Great for one night pre-cruise”
Reviewed 28 March 2010

It was me, my husband, and our 2 boys ages 5 and 7 that stayed here March 13th, one night before our 6 -night cruise on Royal Caribbean that left the following day. I booked online before this hotel had even opened, it is brand new. Upon arrival at the airport, I called the hotel to let them know we needed a shuttle. They said once we got our bags, to call back again because it wouldn't take long. The free shuttle was there within 10 minutes, on a busy Saturday during Spring Break.
Check-in was easy and fast, no problems. It was nice that they had a pool, after a long day of traveling the kids jumped right in and get some energy out. The pool was cold but they didn't care. We had drinks while they swam, the waiter was super nice and brought our drinks outside. The hotel is not by the beach but we wouldn't have had time for that anyway.
The rooms were fine, kind of basic and pretty small but fine for one night.
We asked for a rec. for dinner that night and found a gem- Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza is right around the corner, within walking distance, only about a block away and was absolutely fantastic!! You must eat there if you stay here! We all loved it.
We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant the next morning and it was good.
After that we were ready to get a shuttle to the cruise port (also free). I had forgotten to tell them the day before what time we needed and the lobby was packed. I was worried we wouldn't get out for a long time, but the guy who recommended Anthony's saw me and he got us on the first shuttle out that morning, awesome!
This was our first cruise and we were very pleased that things went smoothly from the get-go, and this hotel was one of the reasons why. It isn't super fancy or posh but that was not important to us, it was clean and it made our traveling easier. I would stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel post-cruise. It is a new hotel and has nice decor, but is in the middle of nowhere! Also front desk staff not helpful in finding a rental car - provided inaccurate information that led us on a wild goose chase looking for a car.

What was most upsetting though is the loss of my husband's jacket and the hotel's total lack of service. As my husband did not want to keep his suit jacket in his suitcase for the night he hung it in the closet. As we had an early check out we forgot the jacket. No problem - we thought that when we called that night we would just ask them to mail the jacket to us and put the fee on our credit card. Well, even though the room was not occupied, the jacket was not found. The jacket was a very nice Banana Republic jacket and had only been worn a few times. I have emailed the hotel manager three times to let them know that housekeeping apparently can't be trusted to return lost items (and ask for an investigation). No response from the hotel - and I emailed the manager directly. Have also sent emails to the Crown Plaza Customer Service, no response. Very disappointed in this level of service. Will go elsewhere in future!

Stayed there before a cruise and was very pleased. Staff was friendly and helpful. This is a brand new building and could find very little wrong with it - bathroom is small.

Stayed 2/13/10 before going on a cruise. The hotel is brand new so obviously it is clean. Hopefully, that will continue as time goes by. We had a king room on the 11th floor. The room was large but the bathroom is very small. The bed was extremely confortable and the furnishings were very modern. However, the AC / heat is an outside unit, so it is on the noisy side when running. The TV is a very large flat screen ... nice. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and had the best quesadilla's ever! Breakfast was good but the service needs to improve. They're still working the kinks out, I'm sure. The hotel does provide shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise port. We took a taxi to the cruise port just because we didn't feel like waiting. Shopping and restaurants are not really close but we did find "Ernie's bar/restaurant" for lunch and the food was great. It is within walking distance on what I believe is Rte. 1, a few blocks north of the hotel (an orange bldg. with palm trees painted on it.) I think this hotel is great for a pre or post cruise 1 night stay but would not recommend it for a week vacation due to lack of shopping / restaurants nearby.

After waiting over an hour for the shuttle to pick us up from the airport (at 11PM), it took another hour to check-in! The desk person kept telling us that the shuttle would be there in 5 more minutes... once we finally made it to the hotel (on a shuttle that was operated by a nearby hotel, not the crowne plaza shuttle) we did not get into our room until 1AM because they could not find my reservation. Mind you, I called earlier in the day to confirm my reservation. The guy at the desk was completely incompetant. I spoke to the manager the next morning and his only response was that "they are a new hotel, and they are still working out some kinks". Well if that's the case, then they should offer us some sort of discount. But of course, nothing was offered. Then, it took over an 1 hour for us to get on the shuttle to the cruise. The only good thing about this hotel was the location, but I think you are better off staying at another one of the nearby hotels, which are similarly priced and actually have operational shuttles.

Stayed at the new Crowne Plaza hotel near the Ft. Lauderdale airport and seaport about a week after it opened, prior to a cruise. Turns out this was also Super Bowl weekend, and we found a room here more reasonably priced than many others in the area. However, the hotel seemed to rush its opening to take advantage of the big event, and was not really ready to do business. So take the following with a grain of salt:
1. The front desk was barren of any welcoming signing, and frequently without staff. The concierge desk was always empty, not a magazine or guide to the area to be found. The business center was completely bare of supplies. The front door was taped shut...you get the picture.
2. When we went into our room, the bed had not yet been pushed against the headboard (we took care of it), the bathroom looked like it had barely been drywalled, the shipping label was still inside the tub. Comfortable bed, noisy AC, too much outside light coming through the curtains.
3. The service in the restaurant was very spotty and the staff (although friendly) was clearly not well trained.
Maybe unfair to rate a hotel during its "shakedown cruise," but it shouldn't have opened for the busiest weekend of the year with this amount of preparation. Even simple things like stocking the "gift shop" with local newspapers weren't done...I had to walk about 1/2 mile through a not-great area of Ft. Lauderdale to buy a paper at a local gas station.
You can do a lot better pre-cruise in Ft. Lauderdale (especially in terms of location) if you're not fighting high pre-Super Bowl occupancy.
