“Great stay”
Reviewed 13 April 2013 via mobile

Stayed here previously and had the same great experience. Great location, well maintained, awesome staff. Wonderfully large rooms with great views. Cool location on intercostal. Only downsides? Long walk to the heart of the beach and 20 min ride to airport. Nice pool with waterway views. They do need to replace the horribly worn furniture and pads on the sand area--it's pretty gross and they should be embarrassed by it. Would stay here again.

Our family of five spent an entire week over spring break here. We chose this hotel because it had an available 2 BR 2 Bath suite, with a pull-out sofa. Finding a place to accommodate a family of 5, especially one with big teenage boys, is difficult. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised and were comfortable despite our togetherness for the entire week.

It is centrally located, within walking distance of shops, Starbucks, a grocery store, and the beach. Watch your wallet though, there's a Nieman Marcus a stone's throw away - I did some damage in their handbags department. Our unit had a small kitchen, so we stocked up on some basics the first day from the grocery store. The kitchenette was convenient, but cookware was very limited. I had to scramble eggs in a spaghetti pot. It worked, but was a little bit of a challenge. My kids loved that we were next to a drawbridge. Whenever we heard the bell, we knew that a big yacht or sailboat was coming through.

Outside, the pool is relatively small compared to many resorts. However, being right on the Intracoastal Waterway, there is plenty of entertainment watching boats of all sizes pass by. We even saw a few manatees swim by. There is a bar outside, and food is available. It was a pleasant way to relax in the afternoon. I especially enjoyed Margaret, one of the bartenders. My husband and I chatted with her throughout the week, and she provided excellent service.

All of the staff we encountered, from manager Chris to maintenance staff, valet and housekeeping, were very friendly. We were always greeted, and it's easy to see the staff is happy there. The front desk staff was great to my 11 year old son, giving him their warmed welcome cookies long after our welcome - in fact he was able to secure warm cookies throughout the week! The housekeeper on our floor knew all of the kids' names by mid-week, and did a great job keeping our unit clean throughout the week. It was really nice to come home from the beach and have the unit tidied up and fresh towels waiting.

Just a couple things that were less than perfect. We had to pay daily for wireless access, which seems like it should be covered by the resort fee. For all the money we were spending each day at the hotel, paying extra for internet access was a little annoying. Also, valet parking is the only option. I love using valet, but after seven days of use, tipping every time your car is brought to you or dropped off adds up. Some days we were in and out of our car twice, and tipping each time. Granted, tipping is our choice, but I'm not the kind of person to stiff someone who relies on tips.

Overall, we were pleased. We will go back there. It was clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. Having the space of a condo to stretch out in the evenings, but all the conveniences of a hotel, made our family vacation a memorable, fun week.

What a nice review of your experience at our hotel. I’m happy to hear that our team members made your stay enjoyable and comfortable. I will be sure to share your comments to Margaret, the maintenance staff, valet, housekeeping, and the front desk. This month is one of the best times to see manatees in Florida and I’m glad you saw a few right in our backyard! We do offer complimentary internet in all public areas of the hotel. Parking is very limited in the area so we make sure our valet service is at a competitive rate. Our valet attendants truly appreciate your generosity. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you in the future!

The hotel has a serious mold problem and the rooms are dated. Mandatory $25 valet parking fee for parking and the hotel is right next to a major highway so all you hear is the traffic all night. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Get a room at a different hotel!

We have stayed here every spring for the last five years. We really love the location and staff is friendly and helpful. We travel as a five member family and the two-bedroom rooms are great! We always have end room so we can sit on balcony and view the innercoastal (kids love watching bridge go up and down) and ocean view.

We enjoyed our stays here so much we are actually looking into purchasing a condo in the hotel!

Teenagers love the mall next door and being with in walking distance of pretty much everything is a plus.

Looking forward to staying again soon!

First of all, location is great. You are walking distance to Publix, CVS Pharmacy, and the Galleria Mall so everything is close by. The beach is a short 10 min walk and of course the water taxi is just a short walk from the elevator.
We had the two bedroom suite which is very spacious. Walls were thick and you could not hear your neighbours or even your family memeber in the other room. There was a tv in each bedroom and the main room so everyone could watch their own shows. Kitchen was a little small but was handy for making breakfast when you didn't feel like stepping out. Balcony was unfortunately off the "guest" bedroom instead of the main room so couldn't really use it when people were sleeping but was nice to be out there to soak in some rays.
Service was good, room was relatively clean and the valet service was prompt.
However, with the good there is the bad.
First day in the room was a bit of a shocker. The headboard of one of the bedroom had pieces of it's leather ripped off. The leather on the chairs at the dining table was cracking and peeling. The garbage bin still had garbage in it. And, the dishwasher still had cutlery and dishes on the rack.
Although valet was nice, it really shouldn't be necessary or as expensive. $25 per day for parking?
Internet isn't free either. In this day and age where internet is free at Holiday Inn, Country Inn, Best Western, Red Roof Inn, etc, you think a big company like Doubletree could afford to provide their guests free wifi. One other note about internet, forget about using your cellphone, tablet and laptop to access the internet. Use one device or they'll ding you for each device. Talk about penny pinching.
Anyways, I still gave this a 3/5 rating since if you don't drive and don't need internet then you won't have to worry about the extra charges. I'm sure the cleaners just had an off day and forgot to empty the trash as they were very proficient the other days we were there. The rooms were nice otherwise and again the location can't be beat.
But, it's unlikely we'll book here again, as a boutique hotel it definitely didn't meet my expectations and if you're looking for a hotel to save money again this won't meet that requirement either.

Thank you for your candid feedback. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the location of our hotel and our spacious suites. With parking being very limited in the area we make sure our prices remain competitive if not lower than the area hotels. We also offer complimentary internet in the lobby and public areas of the hotel. I will address the concerns with the garbage and cutlery in the dishwasher to our housekeeping team. Again, thank you for your feedback.

We stayed here for one night before going on a cruise, and then one night at the end of the cruise. The first night we had a beautiful view room of the intracoastal and out to the ocean. We had a good dinner in the restaurant when we arrived, and breakfast outside in the morning. On our return visit we were given a room where all the dining room chairs had the finish peeling off of them and at the side over the building. The pool was great and the outside areas were wonderful. It is one block from a HUGE shopping center, and the pick up point for the water taxi. It was so easy to grab a cab and go to the cruise ship terminal. Enjoyed the stay. Great location!

Room Tip: As for a view room!
