My husband surprised me with a stay at this lovely 1930s era villa turned hotel during a layover in Ft Lauderdale. It was so delightful, we really had no need to leave the hotel during our stay. It's a complete haven from the sketchy beach crowd that inhabits the nearby boardwalk. But, with that said, the hotel is just a few minutes walk from the beach if you get bored of the calm intracoastal and want some ocean action. We felt like we could easily be in Portofino or Nice while on the grounds of The Pillars. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. We enjoyed champagne upon checking in and lounging by the water with dockside bar service. There is a small pool in the middle of the property that is perfectly adequate for cooling off. The rooms were comfortable and cozy with updated bathrooms. Some of the suites have fantastic private balconies overlooking the water. That evening we dined on the dock by the water while watching the boats pass by. The food and ambiance were delightful. There is a bar indoors and lounge area that most likely was the home's original parlor. Our only regret was having to leave the next morning. We hope to return for a weekend getaway in the near future.

Reception in the hotel is very friendly, personable and helpful. I had a room by the swimming pool. I did not swim, but the pool looked nice enough, albeit small. Each room at the pool also has a table and chairs so you can sit outside. The room was normal size, nicely Decorated and clean. The villa is special and made me feel like being in Singapore in Raffles, just special. Inside the restaurant etc are modern. Probably more for couples than families with kids.

After two days of hell in airports and American airlines cancelling flights . What a little slice of heaven. No lines at check in, had enough of those . Staff who seem to really like what they do. Don't see that to often. Small property that feels like you are a guest at a rich friends villa . I could go on . I ask why stay anywhere else? But please don't tell to many others . We would not want the owner to get a big head. Lol

The Pillars is a wonderful boutique hotel in Fort Lauderdale. We purchased a run-of-the-hous. They generously "rewarded" us one of the nicest suites in the hotel when they could have given us the least expensive room. It was very nice to be upgraded. The suite was pleasant , the beds were devine, and it was nice to look out into the upscale pool area. Afternoon tea in the living room (it was cold outside) was charming. The staff was very helpful. Dinner on the dock was a fabulous experience as the food was delicious, the service was perfect -- helpful without being intrusive -- and the view from the dock was delightful. I will definitely stay at the Pillars whenever I visit Fort Lauderdale and I have recommended it to several friends. I recommend getting a suite -- it was nice to eat breakfast in our living room and to relax there after a day of sightseeing. By the way, it is a short walk to the beautiful beach and they gave us free passes to a nearby gym.

Room Tip: A suite by the pool is a great treat.

We stayed at The Pillars in January of 2012 for two days. When we arrived, we could not find the entrance to the hotel - until we realized the entrance was blocked by large SUVs that were parked blocking the entrance. They were parked so close together that we could not maneuver our luggage through. The entrance is somewhat nondescript, and there was no one to greet us when we arrived on a Friday evening! No doorman, no one at the desk. Finally, someone arrived to check us in, and we were lead to our room, which was in the front of the hotel and had a private courtyard, but the light above the door didn't work, so we could not see to get into the room - which they promised to fix - but the next evening, we realized that the light still didn't work. Also, in the light of day, the private courtyard outside the room would have been a nice place to relax, but the furniture was dirty - leaves and debris were on the cushions, and it could have used a good sweeping - ten or 15 minutes of cleaning and sprucing up the courtyard could have made it very nice to spend some time there. We really didn't use the courtyard because of this - and because it is adjacent to a very busy street, so there is a lot of traffic noise. Our room was very nice but a little small for the price - the bed was REALLY comfortable. The hotel is beautiful. The restaurant in the hotel is first class - the food was absolutely delicious and we eat in some of the best restaurants around the country. The pool area was very inviting, and also the dining by the water - very romantic and peaceful. We had breakfast by the waterfront the two mornings that we were there, and we were not disappointed. The service was good. We would probably stay again, but maybe in a different room - perhaps by the pool.

A truly boutique experience in a plantation style setting. Dinner in the secluded garden was perfect accompanied by gourmet fare. Beds were especially comfortable making the whole night memorable. We will definitely be back.
