“A secluded gem to be discovered”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

On traveling, my wife and I love to discover small hotels were we can find comfort, privacy and good service. The Pillars is our latest discover. Tucked in a "out of the passer by" street, you have to have the address to find it. A simple entrance hide a very comfortable and well set interior. Rooms are very comfortable and well decorate, with all necessary comforts to make your stay unforgettable. One of the high points is the deck restaurant, excellent for a diner enjoying the sunset. Yes you will be facing west. Cuisine is high standard as well the waiting service.
The front desk staff is absolutely versatile and always attentive. The most important is that you will close enough of the Fort Lauderdale beach front to even walk to the beach but away enough to be in a quiet and peaceful environment.
Definitively this is one of the hotels where we have been that we would like to return.

Room Tip: If you are looking for high privacy take one of the three rooms with private veranda on the 1st floo...

We selected The Pillars as we like smaller more personal Hotels and the reviews were all extremely good. From start to finish the hotel was outstanding, the main foyer and also pool and gardens are meticulously maintained and it has a lot of character and class. We got room 118 its on second floor and was a very small queen room, which may not suit everyone. But it had a very large cabana with sofa seating and a balcony overlooking the pool and onto the intercoastal beyond, we never got tired of the view. Secret Garden was very good, we sat next to the water and had a lovely meal, with the sunset backdrop. Hotel staff were very professional and accomodating of any request. Having the water taxi stop right at the Hotel was a huge bonus and mean't we did not need a rental car for our wonderful week at the Pillars.

Room Tip: Room 118 on second floor is smaller queen room , but has excellent outside space and view which we f...

Just getting around to reviewing my trip to The Pillars over the July 4th weekend. It was a 2 night stay that was exactly what I expected after reading several reviews.

My wife and I both lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 5 years so we knew the area well and I initially struggled with the many options of where to stay.

What i will say is, choose the Pillars if you are looking for something different and unique. My wife was not involved in the process (where we were staying was a surprise) but she has stayed at multiple Ritz, Four Seasons and other 5 star properties and was very pleased with our stay.

Hard to put a finger on it but it was all the little things....beautiful intercoastal view, complimentary water/ with fruit always available by the pool, the scent of our room, the private cabana, the super comfortable bed, the water taxi stop right on site, and the romantic water side dining at the secret garden.

Much smaller and intimate than any large chain could deliver with attention to detail at every turn. The location is great. Just a block from the ocean and because the intercoastal views are so nice you won't miss being on the beach. Not to mention its a bit more quiet and tucked away but still so close to the heart of Ft. Laurderdale beach.

The only minor disappointment was my entree at the Secret Garden. The filet was overcooked which was very surprising given how good everything else was. In particular, the breads and accompanying dips were the best I have ever had and my wife had a roasted peach appetizer that was phenomenal. The rest of what we had was really good, not great but the atmosphere couldn't be beat. I should also mention that we had somewhere to be so I didn't ask but if I did I am sure they would have taken the filet back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the upstaris room with the private cabana. It is very small so if that is an issue for...

From the moment that we arrived in this delightful boutique hotel all was well. We were offered a welcome glass on arrival and shown around. Our room was comfortable and big enough without being huge. It opened onto the pool terrace, where breakfast is served in good weather and from there the property extends to a canal side dock. Breakfast was a super start to the day. Would we go back? Like a shot!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Pillars. Where to start. The location is a beautiful view of the intra coastal waterway and walking distance to the beach. The food is fantastic. We enjoyed our anniversary dinner on a dock overlooking the water. We had breakfast on a balcony outside of our room. The service was above and beyond! They made our anniversary unforgettable!

The hotel is small - eighteen rooms - and that is a big plus in the level of attention we received. First impression was excellent service from the front desk manned by Nicholas, who was very helpful and quite charming. The overall feeling is informal and cozy. We took a king room which had a extremely comfortable bed, lovely linens plus large plush bath towels in the bathroom. Having the water taxi do a private pickup at the hotel made us feel special and pampered too. Dinner at the hotel was served on the dock, which is on the waterway, and we had an excellent meal with fine service. We opted to enjoy our breakfast on the dock the next morning then strolled down the beach which is two minutes walk away. We both commented that we really loved everything about this charming boutique hotel. We look forward to our next visit, we will be back!

I remember staying at the Pillars back in the 80's. Back then it was just another motel on Birch Rd. What it had going for it was its location right on the Intracoastal. If you had a room on the 2nd floor you could look see for a mile north, look across it at the million dollar homes and watch the huge yachts sailing past. I can remember one that that used to glide by had a helicopter on a back landing pad The rooms were what you paid for. A little run down but kept very clean with room service every day. The bathrooms were unique, most of the walls were covered in mirrors I guess for more erotic fun. I always enjoyed coming here. The pool was always warm and well kept, the same as the grounds. Looking at the pictures posted the motel has changed so much, for the good but I still have a lot of memories staying here. Fort Lauderdale has changed so much.
